has the word Heartwood been inappropriate? I can't even figure out why.

It was fine to mark last week, now it is not. This is getting ridiculous. It ins't the word 'wood' as all my houses are marked with wood in the name, ie Angelwood, Duskwood, Icewood, Darkwood etc and I hardly think the 'heart' is or should be inappropriate. The whole thing is beyond me.

You actually NEED to be able to mark places in UO as there is no point in marking the runes 'where the elf town is'. It shouldn't have to be a cryptic puzzle to mark places with stupid names just to be able to fill rune books for sale.

Is like you used to be able to mark Compassion Shrine, then one day you couldn't.

Talk about a Nanny state, can someone fix this stupidity?

Yeah. Titan Valley is a bad word too...as are several others. It has gotten to where our political correctness and censorship, and protecting us from ourselves is totally #$^^*_+ ridiculous.

They had fixed it but I guess the last patch brought it back. Anything with EA is "inappropriate" now. (again, as it was before they fixed it)

Just get rid of the whole censor thing, good grief, the average age of players here is well above 20 and I am positive that if anyone abuses it there will be pages instantly to get things corrected, a few bans for those that think it is cute would soon put a stop to things.

Nobody really gives a crap if someone marks a rune with the word "titty" on it. They just want to be able to play the game without this shockingly amateurish filter getting in the way.

Well trust me I wish that folk who attempt to be "cute" and circumvent the censors would get a BAN. I'm sick and tired of seeing some of the highly inappropriate names all over. And though I page continually on some of them far too often NOTHING is ever done.

Only one time when someone thought it was cute to try to name their character King BIackthorn.... did I EVER see anything done about a name. But some of the other stuff I've seen that I wouldn't post here gets by just fine... Yet I can't mark a rune to Compassion Grove????

Counselor is included because of the old counselor system which was in place long ago. One of the prohibited words list is used for both profane words and proper terms of the UO staff. The list probably needs to be revisited/revised/revamped. It is very tedious to have a legitamate, respectful word prohibited because it contains simple letter combinations. This is further aggrivating when other systems of communication (such as chat and p2p talking) do not adhere to the same rules. Inconsistency is a headache.

Unfortunately, average age is a very poor indicator of average maturity level.

Actually I would rather the list be scrapped, and restarted.

There are obvious whole words that should be filtered, and sure put them on the list, but words such as ass are not one of them, nor ea, nor tit. These words have many meanings and even if used in the derogatory form are hardly offensive in this day and age. You hear much worse in movies or on TV, even American TV, and America's filters are way tougher than the rest of the world. In fact most USA filters would be considered draconian in most places.

The chat filter can deal with most things that people may find offensive if they are that thin skinned.

It is the word that generally goes in front of ass or tit that is the offensive part. As in you F****** etc.

And as Kojak said above to filter the EA brand <space>EA<space> would work in both lower and upper case, and work equally well for <space>ass<space) etc if there was a need to even worry about this word. I once tried to name a character 'Spiced Queen' but that was disallowed, it doesn't like the inoffensive word spice, another case of killing the language to avoid one derogatory term. Kojaks suggestion would eliminate the same problem. Surely if something slips by it can be added as and when it is reported. But do so in a manner that does not negate half of the English language because it contains a series of letters that MAY form part of a word.

Common sense should prevail, and if you 'must' censor at this level, re write the code so that the 'exact' offensive word is filtered with the use of <space> as Kojak suggests rather than this grouping of letters format.

"Ass" is also an example, how bad filters of this kind are in games with players speaking different languages.
In German this word has the meaning of Ace (like in Ace of Spades, Flying Ace).

The problem isn't really the words being censored, it's how they're being censored, and the trouble is, the filter errs on the side of those who would cause trouble. On the other hand, players who have legitimate reasons for using letter combinations end up unable to do so because the filter is heavy handed.

We've been told for ages that the system knows who last named an object. If that's not really true, then I'd suggest making it true; if it is true, then you know who the culprits are when something goes way overboard.

My personal thought on it is to err on the side of the players, and allow things like Compassion, Assassin, Great Lakes, Ambassador, Embassy, Competition, and a half million other words be used, and those people who can't behave themselves should be invited to cease playing. For too long has the lowest common denominator held too much sway over how the average player plays the game. It's time to take the game back from the lowlifes who ruin it for those who enjoy to play.

Well I might accept that but strangely enough it does accept 'a Gregory Peck' why the addition of an 'a' makes a difference is odd to say the least
