The holiday house decorating contest, in my opinion leads one to believe it is Christmas based theme although it does not state this.
The reward of receiving a "special hued snowman, which is now a reindeer" does somehow insinuate Winter!!.

Now if it is "any holiday theme" that should win, take thanksgiving. Then shouldn't the winner receive a reward that reflected their design,
say a "special hued turkey"

Now, as far as decorating goes. It does state in the original posting that this is a house decorating contest NOT a house customizing contest. Even if someone customizes their house to look like a Santa's workshop, the judging should be based strictly on the decorating abilities, imagination and unique style of the inside, which was done from decorating not customizing. Keeping in mind not everyone has multiple accounts and those who live in say castles, keeps, towers cannot customize!

It does state in the rules, 1 jpeg picture per account. Thus, shouldn't the judging then only be based on the 1 room that was decorated and submitted. Some people may live in Felucca and have a private home. They may have decorated for "picture purposes but not open to public viewing"

Lastly, as far as the winner having a "mini house" of their design replicated for the following year, I am curious how the dev's will recreate that, if it is "decorating based not customizing based"

Maybe they should have 2 rewards. 1 for decorating and 1 for customizing....Winner of decorating wins the special hued item and the winner of customizing wins the "mini house" but you can only enter for 1.....

The chosen winner for the mini house does not get a mini as reward but will be a new vet reard choice like in the past. And one pic winner is their second floor in a borg cube then that is what the mini will based on?

Not everyone shuts down the system and have to relog the game. Better pop up is the hint window that comes up at shard choice window. See you noticed on the patch window nothing new to look up since Aug 30th.

Hell with thanksgiving. I want someone with a cool graveyard deco plot to be the next mini house vet pick. LONG LIVE THE DAY OF THE DEAD.

They ask for the location of your house for players who might want to go look at it, but voting is over on Dec 15th.

No, it says '1 entry per account' and 'all pictures must be .jpg format'.

Submissions will close on 5th December. At that point the voting page will go live - because you really can't judge which is the best until you can see ALL of them can you? You will then have 10 days to cast your vote. Voting closes 15th December.

I'm sure when people see the voting page there will be some who rush to pick fault with that too. Sorry, but when it comes to adapting a poll plug-in to look nice and show pictures that's the best I could do.
I comfort myself with the knowledge that however well I'd done it, someone would have found something to complain about, because that's all they look for.

I just made it up, but was truly inspired by what this came across to me as in a metaphorical sense.. meow. Also, I wish they'd put cinnamon rolls in game.

Two years ago the Yule Stag dropped 10 "Warm Cinnamon Rolls" I was lucky enough to get 2 of them. I wish I still had them.

When entries close (5th Dec) the voting page will go live. There might be a slight delay. Voting closes midnight 5th Dec, which is 5am for me. If there are a lot of late entries it may take me a short while to get them all listed on the poll. That page has pictures and locations for all the entries - though I had to get a bit creative to fit it all in to the allowed 'answer' space for the adapted poll plug in.

Everyone who has entered so far should have had an email back from me acknowledging receipt. If anyone hasn't, please re-send.

hehe me too, my vote count actually went down. I only had 12 then it went down to 8 not sure what it is now as have written this contest off as a colossal waste of time. The only person I know who voted for me was me. Haven't asked anyone else for a vote, and my guild consists of me, so my guild already voted lol. To the other 7 people, thanks, whoever you are!

I can't see that anyone would be doing dodgy votes for me, so am kinda wondering why the votes went from 12 to 8, it happened when the 'order' was rejigged.

Anyways my view is they either have to give everyone a reindeer (just for the effort of entering) or NO one, and forget the mini house completely. I don't care either way. I did wonder when they said it was gonna be a public vote how they were gonna stop people using proxy addresses, I guess we now know, they didn't.

Let's hope something is learned from this.

Those things are going to be worth huge sums of gold/cash. Not sure how this wasn't thought out more completely before.

Then again, after that joke of an essay contest, not sure anything should surprise me.

The essay contest was at least judged and i would say 95% of the proper stories got there prize. There are some pretty amazing houses in the deco contest but there not the ones that are getting the fake votes. They should scratch this fake poll and have the devs judge it or something.

I disagree... because when one person gets awarded multiple robes, that is a problem.

I do agree with both of you. It is unfair because you can vote multiple times. I went into the competition knowing i wouldn't win, because I knew this would happen. I just did it for the Holiday. So I'm not loosing anything. But...... I know i spent countless hours into my house while someone put 1 hour in it, put fake votes.. and win. Same with the writing contest, yes they were all judged equal... but for one person to win 3 out of 5 robes? I mean come on. Someone told me that all entry's will recieve something, dunno if thats true or not, just something i heard.

I am beginning to believe, that the problem is the ethics of players... I am really sad that almost everything someone organizes for the community gets exploited and overarched by the intentions and the behaviour of greedy people. I counted myself always to the optimistic, philanthropic people. I am part of a guild that is based on philanthropy and I am part of a community that works that way (mostly) - Drachenfels...

But when I read these forums I am getting more and more pessimistic... Seems that everything is poisoned by greed and egoism. Is UO as a game corrupt or is its playerbase corrupt? Is it US or THEM? Is it only UO or is UO a mirror of what we experience in RL, too?

Makes me sad. Everything.
