Inactive Guild Leaders

Recently there was a change that made it so a guild leader that had been inactive for a certain amount of time could be "removed" and a new person voted in. I cannot find the information now, but I believe it was 30 days. Is this correct?
Does the game automatically nominate a new guild leader after the account has gone inactive 30 days or do you have to vote one in?
I have an old stone I've been holding since I started for sentimental reasons. Due to real live obligations the account was inactive for longer than I'd like. While I was gone I lost my guild (of 3 members) to someone who logged on during the return to Brit promotion. This person hadn't logged on literally in years. I don't think she'd purposely "steal" my guild. Perhaps the game nominated someone after a certain amount of time.
I'm just wondering how much time must lapse before I have a chance to get my guild back.

This new GM hasn't logged in since 9/29.

If you have enough active members in the guild, who are higher than Ronin rank, you can vote for a new guild leader.
About this other way of game automatically determining a new leader I don't know, but these accounts have not been really active, so it would be somewhat strange if an RTB account took over without active interaction of some guild members.

I thought it strange too. I know Snowdrop (above) didn't vote in someone she doesn't know (the other member) and I'd think it strange someone who didn't play or wasn't going to be active after RTB would have voted herself as GM, which is why I thought it may have just been random.
If she somehow did this purposefully I'd like to know.

Does anyone know how it works?

The seemingly-relevant section, the portion that is likely to most-interest you is in bigger font, italicized, and underlined.

Choosing a new Guild Leader
The Guild Leader voting system allows guild members to determine their Guild Leader. You can cast your vote a new Guild Leader by selecting a guild member on the Guild Roster page.
Guild Leader voting details and restrictions:
  • Guild members do not have to vote for anyone, but they are still counted towards the total number of votes in the guild. Voting for no one is effectively voting for the current Guild Leader.
  • Guild members cannot vote for an inactive player.
  • Guild members cannot vote for the current Guild Leader.
  • Whenever an active guild member’s vote becomes illegal, their vote defaults to none.
  • If a guild member becomes inactive, their vote is no longer valid, nor are they counted towards the total number of votes when determining a majority.
  • Votes are not known to anyone but the individual guild member. The voting tally is also not known to anyone through the guild interface itself – though they can always tally it by asking the other guild members and adding it up themselves.
  • Guild members may change their vote any number of times.
  • Who you are voting for is indicated by an asterisk ( * ) after that guild member’s name. For eYesample, if you are voting for Bob, you would see Bob’s name listed as “Bob *” in the guild roster.
  • When a guild member other than the current Guild Leader achieves a 2/3 majority of the votes, they will replace the current Guild Leader.
  • If a Guild Leader deletes their character, the guild member with the most votes becomes the new Guild Leader. In the case of a tie, a winner will be selected randomly.
  • If a Guild Leader is voted out of their position, they are demoted to the rank of Member.
What is "inactive?"

The relevant excerpt from earlier in that link:

Guild Roster
The Guild Roster page is a list of everyone in your guild. It displays each guild member’s name, rank, the date they last logged on, and their guild title. Clicking on the arrow buttons located in the upper left-hand corner of the page will allow you to scroll through the list. To view information about a specific guild member, click on the button to the left of their name.
Guild leaders and emissaries can invite people into your guild by pressing the ‘Invite Player’ button at the bottom of the page, and then targeting the player they wish to invite. Members of your guild who are currently online will appear green in the list. Names that appear gray in the list are members who have not logged in for 30 days or longer, they are considered inactive.
Putting these together it sounds like that's what you were referring to, and it's not quite what you thought it was, but is related.

Galen I am sorry I am not following your thought process.
I was already guild leader.
My account went inactive for about 60 days.
During this time the RTB promotion was active.
There are 3 people total including myself in this guild.
During the RTB promotion one of the three (who had been inactive since 2009) logged in and somehow became guild leader.
This person has not logged in again since 9/29.
Bottom line question is what I need to do to get my guild back and how I lost it in the first place.

in your original a post may have been a misreading or mishearing of the material from the Stratics guild page, which states that you cannot vote for an inactive member as leader of your guild.

Just a quick FYI, I remember the post regarding a change. Like the OP I can't remember the details, but I do know it relates to inactive characters, not accounts. I created a guild on a shard that I rarely play and added one friend to it. Did not log that character on for a couple month but the accounts were active the entire time. When I finally did log that character on I was no longer the GM. Noticed that the other member had logged on a few days before (we were both logging in to collect anniversary tickets). He said he did not do anything to become GM, so it appears to be an automated process to make sure that the guild has leadership.

I actually thought I remembered that too but the Stratics page came up when I used Google, and it seemed similar enough that it seemed likely the same thing, mis-heard.

This is why only my chars are in my former guild 'IDOC Hunters [IDOC]'. Would hate to have the GMship lost, even though it's not been an active guild for years. Reminds me of the many good times over the years and good friends since gone from UO and RL

Guild Voting Changes

Added functionality to resolve guild hierarchy issues when a guild has no active (characters that have logged in within the last 30 days) voting members. When a guild has no active voting members (Guild Leader, Warlords, Emissaries or Members) and only has active non-voting members (Ronins) the system will now hold a special election which will promote the guild member (Ronin) that was most recently active to become the guild master. If the system is unable to identify the most recently active member, it will randomly select an active guild member (Ronin) to promote. This special election will ONLY occur when there are no active voting guild members.

So for Flutter to become GM again, Snowdrop has to make her ronin (provided that SD is an emissary) and not log in that char for 30 days and after the 30 days Flutter logs in on her ronin and becomes GM?

Sounds about right?

Good find; thank you.

To all:

May I ask a stupid question....Flutter's situation really isn't clear to me so apologies if the answer to this is obvious to all but me.

Can every member leave the guild, then immediately remake a guild with the same name? Or is it that there's so many inactive members that it won't matter?

And is it possible or desirable to avoid all of this entirely and just remake the guild with an extremely similar name?

Another possible option that doesn't require anything from anyone else....

If Flutter has another char in the guild she could just cast a vote for the char she wants to be GM and when the timer of however long is up it will make her the GM again.

Every once in awhile my wife casts votes with her various chars in our guild and after a certain amount of time (even with me being active) it will make whatever char she voted for 6 times the leader. Then I do the same back..... yeah it's a dumb game we play.

There's only 3 of us in the guild.
Myself, my friend Snowdrop, and the ronin that is now the GM.
I believe if Snowdrop and I both vote for me I can gain the GMship back.

Thanks for the help and information you guys found.

Wait... a Ronin somehow became GM? That's not supposed to ever be possible... Ronin's do not have voting rights, etc.

Glad you got it straightened out though. :)

True - but I got the impression from comments above that Snowdrops and/or Flutter were always around... maybe not.
Snowdrop was. I'd been inactive.
I think the issue is you have to actually log on the character. It doesn't matter if the account is active. So, if no one of voting rank has been actively logged in after a certain amount of time the game randomly elects a new GM.
