This is how the stealables that spawned in dungeons should of been set up in my opnion. U have to reveal them when they spawn and its completely random. I really think that this is a great idea and should be continued to be used in future ideas. It may be a half baked idea but i think it has a lot of merit. Makes a skill useful again and adds to the thrill of finding something that could be really rare while making it difficult to script.

Whether intended or not, rare large gems seem to be spawning in the boxes. I have seen at least amethyst that are larger than store bought ones. Might have others as well. I just look in the boxes when they are unlocked. It would be great if you stealthers would leave them unlocked for us. I like those gems.

Stealthers don't re-lock the boxes, the game timer does, and you'll find no gems in any box I've unlocked. I'm taking them home for my imbuer.

I'm loving the box detecting, especially since I'm only just adding detect and lockpick to my pvm thief and getting gains while finding them.

Do you need the actual lockpick skill to open or is the mage spell ok?

You need lockpicking and detect hidden but just magery to get rid of the two traps. Im exactly where Petra is ..well she tought me.. The amethysts.. I would prefer the normal ones, for imbuing. I think it isnt ment to be the rare ones.

OK thanks, I'll have to move my lockpicking over from my t-hunter and train up some detect hidden. I hope its not a grind to train!

The bigger gems work for imbuing, they're the same as the ones from the gem cart vet reward

How much detect hidden does one need to find these chests?

depends how close you get. I have 70+. When I'm a few tiles away I get 'optimal', when nearer I get 'easy' and when right next to it I get 'very easy' using a ball of knowledge. A friend told me he started getting 'keen senses' messages at 60.
I use these messages to find it.

It hasn't been pinpointed from what I have read, but it is common to fail often at 100 skill.
Incase you missed it, this is snipped from Petra's thread on Zealots:

Hidden Supply Cache
  • While exploring the dungeon you will sometimes see the message: Your keen senses detect something hidden in the area...
  • You need detect hidden to reveal the supply caches. The exact skill value needed has not been pin pointed, but it is very common to fail at 100 skill level.
Helpful tips for those searching for hidden supply caches: If you noticed the message and are still failing to find the box I found it was helpful to move out of the area and approach from different directions and when the new messages appear it will give you a better estimation of the cache's location. *Be sure to also have a key to activate Circle of Transparency as sometimes the caches are hidden in very difficult to see areas like against walls.* - Petra mentions using a crystal ball of knowledge which changes its message the closer you are to the caches. For those of you with a crystal ball of knowledge on you it could be an effective way to judge where the caches are. -
  • After being revealed you need lockpicking to open the supply cache. The exact skill value needed has not been pin pointed, but expect to break a few picks at 100 skill level.
  • After being opened the cache will be trapped, there is various methods to deal with the traps, but the traps themselves are always the same: High level poison followed by a weak dart trap.
According to the other thread Remove trap does work, but is very difficult. It was stated that even with 100 Remove trap it was rare to succed, so I would recommend the telekinesis spell/scroll or to eat the traps and cure/heal the damage.
  • Inside the cache you will find: Always 1500-2500+ gold and a random amount of standard gems of all kinds (except amber). The items that vary are: Invisibility potions, Parasitic poison potions, smokebombs, a random amount of one kind of Stygian Abyss essence, and an exodus key part.
Aside from that please be careful the Exodus mechanical npcs can reveal sometimes (rare).

Edit: Petra's post about the crystal ball of knowledge is very helpful.

I also wanted to add that I wholeheartedly agree with you MrMightySmith. For a first go at a new system I have found it to be quite enjoyable and look forward to seeing if they will use the mechanic again in the future, possibly with some tweaks here and there to keep it fresh.

I was getting 'keen' senses at around 40 right, right now I am up to 55 and have no trouble finding boxes.
