With all the publishes and new items being introduced some people are trying to take advantage of people who are not as informed as they could be. Today someone got scammed into buying "A Personal Bless Deed For Any Player" to the tune of 65 mil. The person had no idea they had been scammed and was trying to resell it for 125 Mil.

This isn't a new scam but I have seen it 2 times in the last few weeks. For the price of a Name Change Token some nefarious characters are taking people for large amounts of gold. Please help spread the word if you see someone trying to do this scam.

This has been a public service announcement. Thanks for reading!

I gotta say I've NEVER felt sorry for people that get "Scammed" as you say. It's a trade window showing what you are getting for your $$$..... If you don't like what's in the trade window then don't give them gold for it. I'll agree that scamming is lame for things like Dread Mares etc where the trade system didn't use to allow you to distinguish if what you were trading was what it should be. Other than that though I don't feel sorry for people. Every day people less informed than others pay more than they should to MUCH lesser degrees & that's how it will always be & SHOULD be. If you fall for a big "SCAM" well then hopefully you learn a lesson, but ultimately you agreed to the trade....... How are SMART people going to make money if not from those less gifted ?? LoL

I agree to the OP: Many greedy and unfriendly people´out there. I always feel sorry for people being victims of those "smart" people... Had to learn some lessons, too. Today I try to help newbs and returners not to waste money on those deals...

I'm having trouble with this one - why would the value of the item (if it had been legitimately usable) be anywhere close to $65 million?

Disagree with Vexxed.

A few days ago on Atlantic I witnessed a player trying to cash in their +5 Scroll of Valiant Commendation Presented for Exceptional Bravery for 65 Million. While the original Scroll of Valiant Commendation may have long term value and become a rare collector’s item in the future for a player simply seeking the +5 stats increase it sure would be nice to know that it's going to be available next patch before dropping 65M.

This is exploitative behavior.

Another thing that disturbs me is Transfer Shield Tokens, being that they are account bound, are allowed on vendors. The Dev Team has dropped the ball on that as far as I’m concerned and account bound items should not be allowed on vendors. “The vendor refuses to sell that item due to it being account bound” or something along those lines should be in effect to avoid the possibility of players getting ripped off.

There are lots of shady people in UO as the Transfer Tokens on vendors no doubt proves. The Dev Team should burn down the vendor houses ala Draconi style to any vendor houses selling Transfer Shield tokens. If I was a landlord and saw someone putting an account bound item on a vendor for sale I would terminate his contract immediately.

While the underlying law of the land is caveat emptor helping other players make educated and informed decisions is certainly the right thing to do.

By the looks of this post it was a personal bless deed for a player named "any player" and therefore could not be used by anyone but its original owner. My guess is that it was being billed as one of the item bless deeds from long ago and thus valuable as a collectors item. Just speculation on my part based in the OP.

There is no need to speculate here, they spammed: "Selling NEW Personal Bless deed Any Player can use 125 Mil!" It wasn't being advertised as an old Personal Bless Deed used for deco. It was being sold as a way to bless an item. When confronted they said someone sold it to them cheap because they needed the money and it should be sold for 125 mil because it was hard to get the need personal bless deeds. They acted genuinely upset to find out they had been scammed. I posted just help educate people on a scam that has come back up again.

I still don't understand. You cannot use bless deeds on items that cannot be insured. Ignoring the fact blessed items appear in your pack and must be equipped after death, the cost of insuring one item is capped under 1000 gold, right? For $65M you could insure that same item 65,000 times or more. Is it possible to die that many times? It doesn't make financial sense. If you were looking for a rare/collector's item, well, that's not my cup of tea.

Gorbs,

The point of the whole thread is that someone was trying to sell something using false information. Personal Bless Deeds were available when Age Of Shadows(I think) came out. I have one on 4 of my 7 characters. I would love to have one on every character. Not sure I'd pay 65 mil for one though. The benefit to the Personal Bless Deed is that you can unBless an item and retrieve the deed and use it again. I take mine with me when I am hunting or doing an event to quickly bless an item. It is very useful to me. There are those out there that would certainly pay to be able to do this. I just don't like seeing people being scammed.

How do you take the personal bless deed off an item once applied?

I believe the owner clicks the item and says remove it.

Im supposed to feel sorry for someone trying to sell an item for twice the amount he paid? I dont see the value at 65mil. We have insurance. And blessed items fall in your backpack. Very annoying.

I think this works on the same principle as RL confidence tricks. The scammer preys upon the greed of his 'mark' by implying an opportunity to make a 'quick buck'. When offered an item for sale, supposedly below normal price, a sensible person would check the provenance of the item to see if it genuine. To prevent this the seller usually will set a time limit on the offer.
The 'mark' is too interested in making the supposed profit to take the risk of missing out by checking on the item. Caveat Emptor. Don't buy something you've never heard of till you've checked it out - ask a genuine rares trader.

OK I hate to see people get scammed but I also feel it was wrong on the part of the person trying to sell the deed for 125 mil after only paying 65 mil for it. I would have to question whether they were genuinely upset finding out they were scammed or genuinely upset that some one found out the scam they were trying to pull.

A player with 65 mil gold to spend should be pretty familiar with items that are available in the games and what is good to buy and what is not.

To me it look like a scammer got scammed. He was looking to make some fast mills, just like the one, who sold it to him.
I don't really feel sorry for someone who pay 65 mills for something without looking it up first. How hard can it be to:
1. ask in gen chat
2. look at uo.com for new public
3. look at uo2.stratics.com or uoguide.com

Yes theres still a few of these old personal deeds floating around. I have a couple that came from Idocs namely 'A Bless Deed for Anybody' and 'A Bless Deed for Anyone'. Whilst these might have a certain rarity value because of their age they are actually totally useless to anyone except their original owners. It is to be regretted that this kind of item is open to abuse by scammers.

I agree it was his own fault. But just because he wanted to make a profit doesn't make him himself a scammer.

It was on Atlantic, but I did not recognize the character name so it could have been someone from Europa.

It isn't difficult to create one from the old oles. If you use a Name Change Token on a character with a PBD the name changes on it. So, if you have a character named Billy Bob with a PBD and use a Name change to Anyone, the PBD changes to the new name. I only wish that would work with the AOS clothing items....

I know a while back people with AOS clothing picks were selling them for a Name change and gold. Wish I had done that before. I would love to have some clothing with my newer character's names.

I rest my case.
How is this UO's fault? The guy was greedy and thought he could double his money easy... if the deal seems too good to be true it almost always is. You have to take the chance to find that once in a blue moon great deal. Besides he got the most important thing of all... experience. Bet he wont do it again... well as long as hes not a ******.

It's on UO's fault... What I'm saying is that because of jerks like that scamming players and cheaters and everything else nasty that players do to one another we lose several players all the time. And then people wonder why UO has so few players. Because quite frankly most folk play UO to rest, relax and have fun. Not be cheated, berated and scammed.
