First I don't post in Uhall much, but I have been playing the game since release. Over the years I have played and enjoyed both sides of the spectrum in regards to PvP and PvM. Over the years I have randomly pondered ideas to bring people to fel. Not in the fashion of sheep to wolves, but to allow tram players to experience fel in a fun, fair, and rewarding light.
I feel our current power scroll system works well for the hard core pvpers, and I am against any idea to change that. It is still one of the few perks fel currently has.
What I am proposing leaves everything as is, but adds an additional encounter to the game that will appeal to both tram and fel players a like. My idea currently is just an idea, and there is room for change but I think what I have so far is a pretty solid concept. Please no flames or bashing. Look at my idea as unbiased to either side as possible, because I think it is something we may be able to make happen to finally quench both play styles.
This encounter happens in a large instanced setting (similar to an entire dungeon floor). There is a vendor placed in tram and fel next to a turn in alter to begin the encounter. The vendor sells keys at 20k each and you can only purchase one key per account every 3 hours.
To begin this encounter the alter combined total of keys must be 10. The keys already placed there do not decay unless the person logs out. Once the alters receive 10 total keys (either turned in in tram or fel or both) all players receive a gump warning that the encounter will begin in 5 minutes. All players must bank or store all of their personal belongings, all equipment and items in their bags and on their paperdoll. They will not be teleported until they are completely naked and empty. No summons or pets will be allowed during the encounter, everyone will be on foot, and stealth will not be allowed. (tamers can still fireball or shoot arrows *wink*).
Once the encounter begins all players enter a sealed random room at random locations on the map. They will then be able to chose a basic armor and weapon set for their class. These items are blessed with a decay timer of two hours (or until you leave the event). They will also be able to gather consumables from a chest that are also blessed with a decay timer of two hours (or until you leave the event), bandages, potions etc.
(this part of the concept evens the playing field and new players can participate on the same level as veteran players)
Players cannot leave until the boss is dead or the timer of two hours is up.
After 60 seconds to supply and equip the doors open and the encounter begins. This encounter is similar to a champ. There are random monsters to kill to advance the spawn. Player deaths also advance the spawn.
All pinks, power scrolls, and items dropped during this event have a blessed timer of 2 hours. If the encounter is not completed in 2 hours all players are ported out with any items they were rewarded during the encounter. If the boss is killed before the two hour timer is up, all players are ported out with all the items they were rewarded (minus the equipment) to the same location they began the encounter at.
-No murder counts will be awarded during the encounter. Anything goes.
-When a player kills a monster, kills a player, or die themselves they have a random chance to receive SOT's and 105 power scrolls. Personal deaths count toward spawn advancement.
-When a player dies they are ported to one of the 10 random starting rooms and ressed with full health and gear equipped, and they can rejoin the fight.
The Boss
The boss has a lot of health, and it would be more beneficial for all 10 players to work together for his death.
All rewards the boss drops are temporarily blessed for 5 minutes (long enough for everyone to leave and gain a safe location)
If you are dead when the boss dies these items are given to you still in your bag.
-The boss awards each participating player 1 power scroll of random value.
-The boss has a chance to reward up to two random high end peerless items (crimmy, swampy etc.)
-The boss has a chance to reward up to two random super awesome boss specific rewards of leetness.
-The boss has a chance to reward up to two random SOT's of any point value.
Well there is my raw concept.
This will allow pvpers to pvp, and this will allow tram players to experience pvp without fear of losing anything and also enjoy the shinneys they are guaranteed to get.
This will be pvp on even ground with even gear and items, even new players will have a chance to kill people.
I am sure some tweeks some exploitation precautions can be made to the concept. But I feel it is a good working mold and idea to give both worlds something they would enjoy.
So what say you good citizens of UO?
