The TOWER of 1000 Glacial Staves ... the story of those Glacial Staves is a saga.
Here is an abreviated version:
The Glacial Staff Slide was on the roof of a
TOWER located on the South East side of Destard Swamp South of Destard Dungeon on Sonoma.
A friend living next door, surprised me when he invited players from every shard to visit and celebrate the placement of the 1000th staff. Thousands of players from all over UO showed up - causing a huge LAG.
All those people and all those locked-down Glacial Staves caused
an overload which
black-holed many players and
many GMs who were called in to help.
The powers that be implemented new Lockdown Allowances which reduced the lockdown allowance to HALF.
This caused me to suffer serious blackholes continuously for weeks as I tried to log-in to unlock and move half the glacial staves out of the tower, and move them to Arctic Gardens. It wasn't possible to place a secure in which to put the glacial staves until half the lock downs were removed from the house. So often I had to leave a Chest on the floor not secured, and hope I could load it with the glacial staffs and move it out of the house before being in another blackout.
These new requirements destroyed the Tower of 1000 Glacial Staves and caused many new measures to be taken to control the overwhelming overload of items in the game at the time.
One day, the empty, safe and quiet Destard Swamp suddenly became the dumping ground for every kind of monster found in swamps, plus more. That killed any possibiltiy of keeping it safe for players to run vendors in our Destard Village found along the Swamp Front located South of Destard Dungeon.
The TOWER, now a KEEP, is
open to the public offering a safe place to work for any one wanting to hunt every type of swamp creature, including numerous Savages camps.
