Hello,
I just upgraded my machine from Windows XP to Windows 7. When upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, it was necessary to perform this as a custom / clean installation. I re-installed Ultima Online, Samurai Empires from my CD, and tried running the game. When doing so, I was presented with the error message "This program cannot display the webpage" as shown in the screenshot at the end of this post. Please note that, after installing Windows 7, I ensured all of the latest Windows updates and drivers have been installed before installing Ultima Online and performing the steps below.
I have performed the following steps in an effort to resolve this problem:
Thank you in advance for your help
- I have confirmed the Patch folder in my Ultima Online directory is empty (hidden files are shown to make sure nothing was missed)
- This was a brand new installation, but regardless I ensured my PC is not infected by the Win32 Spacefiller virus (or any other virus, for that matter)
- I confirmed I have over 800 GB of free disk space on my hard drive
- My internet connection is more than sufficient (I use cable, not a free internet service provider), as I am getting over 20 Mbps down and over 4 Mbps up, confirmed by speedtest.net
- I have confirmed no background programs are running in addition to Ultima Online. I have even gone through the process of performing a clean boot using msconfig.exe to ensure this
- I have confirmed that Windows parental controls are disabled
- I have confirmed that the Windows firewall is disabled
- I performed port forwarding for all necessary port ranges in my Linksys router, and disabled the firewall in my Linksys router. I went a step further and removed the Linksys router from the equation, and connected my computer directly to my cable modem.
- Read-ahead optimization has been disabled
- After performing the above steps, I completely uninstalled Ultima Online by using Add/Remove programs, and manually deleting the Ultima Online folder from my hard drive after the uninstall process completed. I ensured my recycle bin was empty after the uninstall.
- After uninstalling Ultima Online, I performed a scan disk and disk defrag. Both of these steps should be unnecessary since this is a brand new installation of Windows, but I tried it anyway.
- After performing the above scan disk and disk defrag, I re-installed Ultima Online, and the problem persists.
- In addition to the above steps, I have tried running Ultima Online and UOPatch.exe as Administrator, under Windows XP compatibility mode, and with Windows UAC disabled. None of these steps worked.
Thank you in advance for your help
