Farewell to Stratics

My time posting on these forums has come to an end. During my time here I have tirelessly championed the place of tamers in pvp, and the rights of every player to play Ultima Online in a cheat free environment. I have also contributed in a positive way, by making suggestions and answering questions in UHall, and specifically on the taming forums.

However, over the past years of my love affair with Ultima Online, I have come under attack, virtually every time I have posted on Stratics' forums by people who have a vested interest in the status quo with regard to cheating in Ultima Online.

These people have deliberately trolled every thread I have posted to on the subjects of cheating and tamers in pvp, in an attempt to have them locked, and/or deleted. Unfortunately they have succeeded. The moderators of these forums have consistently allowed these people to succeed in what has essentially become a campaign of harassment and bullying.

It has become clear to me that posting on these forums has become personally for me, a waste of time and emotional capital. So to those who have been both my friends and my opponents, I will see you in game.

Llewen, I personally wish you well. I can say with honesty that for every claim that Stratics under moderates 'bullies' there are equal complaints that Stratics over moderates those who feel they have the right to say what they want, however they want regardless of a mutual respect requested of everyone. Its a daily struggle to find the balance on any forum or fansite. I don't know how your post will be received by anyone, only thought to add my well wishes to you.

Sorry but it's pretty silly to get so riled up over a forum about a game. I'm afraid posting on here, or in any online environment, requires that you be prepared to have your opinions and view on things scrutinized to the nth detail by people who don't necessarily agree with you. The people doing so, and disagreeing, aren't necessarily "trolling"; they just see things different to yourself. It's an alternative viewpoint which you must be prepared to accept also.

It's probably for the best that you take a break from the boards if you allow this stuff to get to ya, because in the grand scheme of things there are a lot biggest problems out there and it sounds like you're taking things way more seriously than they merit.

Things should be kept in perspective. Take care.

stratics, like UO can get under your skin if you let it, and stratics, like UO is addictive.

Any online environment is packed with those who prefer "trolling" or simply attacking the OP as opposed to a fair discussion. I suggest not losing faith though, maybe what you just need is a break. Give yourself some time and then see how you feel.

I would like to see a Forum rule that, when a fair thread is attacked with posts that are not within the guidelines, only these posts would get cleansed but the thread let me.

I do not see why, if a poster originates a fair thread about game issues and is posting within guidelines, then the thread is sanctioned because others, not the OP, have made posts not following the guidelines.

Well, I think I know pretty well about people disagreeing with me. Yet, even though I have always discussed on these forums issues about the game, never attacked another poster in my posts and always maintained my discussions about game issues civil, I have had, inexplicably to me, some of my threads locked.

So, I was discussing game issues, not attacking other posters and keeping my posts civil and yet this did not avoid some of my threads get locked. This is something I have a hard time understanding.
Personally, I would see more favourably the removal of single posts which are not following the guidelines rather than locking a whole thread when all it does is discussing game issues in a civil manner even though those game issues might bring up a heated discussion.

But that is only my opinion.

In instances where it isn't a major occurrence of attacks or trolling it is feasible to keep the thread on track. However if there is a case where it is continuous it may be overbearing to have a moderator keep going back to the thread and trying to keep it clean.

So as long as the trolls keep it up, they can wear the moderators down.

The thread was pretty extensive as well, I had a chance to read it and 2 responses before it got disappeared . I can totally understand the frustration as it must have taken a very long while to write up. Regardless I also agree with Popps.

Llewen, please change your mind. A good person like you with honest views is very much needed and important to these forums, and in the game. You are good example and make others think and argue the issues. You present a certain truth and if others don't like it, let them hollar. Many who love your posts read these forums but don't post so you'll never know how many players really like what you write.

I read it at work but I couldn't be bothered to troll it. I've been trolled more than enough but I'm still here, quiting is for quiters which ain't for me.

I hate to say but when you write a post such as the one Llewen did and you have to expect it to be closed. You can't outright say here is a way to hack but I'm going to use it for good, come on.

The best way to continue your agenda is to stay, spam it every day as best you can.

There are blogs attached to the forums now. It might be at least as good a way to dispense information as forum posts. Possibly better.

You need to find another forum if you are going to encourage people to down load illicit programs written by folk that care little for rules.
