In situations like this where a person indicates that he/she has milked the system does this person now fall off for the rest of thier spam? Or is it possible that they could be in for winning on multi shards. I might have been mistaken, certainly could have been, but I thought the contest was for your best memory not for random stories made up about random shards with the intention of deciving the dev team.
Truelly I don't care about the item, others will, but I'd really hate to see some person clean up due to luck or the RNG working in thier favor while screwing the rest of the player base. We have seen it before and I'd hate to see it again.

The rules were that you could submit any number of stories...and Ludes might have played on various shards. I know when I started playing, I was on Napa...and alot of my fondest memories are from there...but now that I am on Origin, I have alot of fond memories from there...so IF I had entered the contest I would have submitted to both shards.
Random stories made up? Anyone who has played any length of time will have multiple memories without any need to make any up.
Don't get all tied up in a knot, just asking some questions.

I am glad that you won but the impression that one could have been left with is that you submitted stories for many shards. As it seems some people fancy that this was the way the contest was to be ran which is different from the impression I was under.
I think that the reaction to Ludes's win, and really the general reactions I've seen to anyone's win, reflects the fact that perhaps this anniversary shouldn't have been celebrated with a zero/sum competition.

I'm still disapppointed in the DEV team for even starting this nonsense. Why should one memorable moment be more special than another among players? And yes I'm a realist and believe players made stories up just to win. Enjoy your robes.

Well if what you read on the boards can be trusted, a single player on Atlantic won 3 of the 5 stories. I can not imagine that scenario is what the team had in mind when they posted this contest. Unfortunately, this contest was put out there with absolutely no contest controls... Which leaves the door wide open for abuse. Does submitting 4 stories on a single shard qualify as abuse? What about the guy who submits 4 stories on 6 or 7 shards? Does it really seem like someone who never played on say Sonoma get to win one if the Sonoma robes?

Personally I'm just happy that so many people participated in this contest and IMO we are all winners by being able to read about the great memories other people have about this game. Contests always have winners and those that don't win and, unfortunately, a few that always manage to find something terribly wrong with it all... Congratulations to all the people that entered the contest - winners and others! I really look forward to reading what memorable experiences other people have had in UO and hope that these stories are used to "advertise" what a great "game" UO really is! I also wish all the submissions could be published, not just the winners... I'm sure we'd (well most of us anyway) enjoy reading ALL of them...

I can see this both ways. There wasn't exactly clear cut rules for this. It was never specified exactly on whether you could enter just one memory or hundreds. It didn't say you could use pictures but it didn't say you couldn't either. My husbands story would have been greatly enhanced with pictures but he didn't realize you could add them until we saw some of the winners. But it's ok.
I personally took it as memorable moment meaning one. I have no doubt that most people submitted more then one and probably on multiple shards. Some people were talking about that before it even finished so that's not a stretch. If you submit multiple stories you definitely are trying to tip the odds in your favor. Some may consider that cheating,taking an unfair advantage,being greedy whatever, the list goes on. Can't blame those people though. There should have been clearer rules to start with and they should have been enforced. Of course, asking UO to enforce no cheating is pretty laughable in itself.

Myself, personally, I submitted one story from way back in 98-99 about Napa. I made sure to add my Stratics name as that was/is the same char/name that people know me as here and in game. I have no expectations in winning, my postings here would exclude me from winning if there was 6 entries and this is fine.
I thought about spamming the feed with all sorts of stuff filled with BS and random words but after re-reading the contest I was dead on submitting only my personal best memory of the game. I have many, some are good and others painful, but the story I submitted is the same one I would and do tell people IRL about what made this game worth playing for over a decade. It's the same story that keeps me posting here, angry yet filled with warmth for the game.

Yer a winner in my book Startle, Picus and all the rest that took the submissions as a fun and memorable event. I will one day print them all and put them in a folder to read at my leisure. All hail UO and the passionate players that make it what it is!

You may or may not not be selected. You are still a winner and a well respected member of this community.
Personally I think they should have limited it to one code per account, similar to compassion dyes. For the account to be eligible it should have been active for at least 30 days and submit a memorable moment story. Each shard could have had 3 winners for the contest with a plaque in the rewards hall ( or other notable location ). All stories could then have been posted via the herald for everyone to enjoy. IMO this would have been much easier to manage and would have made the contest much more equitable.
I read this as they got 10 stories for the shard. 4 of which are Ludes.
And you wonder why people say that the contest was handled wrong...
I don't see anything wrong with posting multiple stories as long as they are stories of different shard which wouldn't be far fetched due to the amount of xfers now a days..but submitting multiples to one shard all your doing us enhancing your chances of winning..in ludes case did you write the same name when signing the story or were u trying to just win multiples either way I don't really care like I've said before its just a silly robe I don't think ludes was trying to "cheat" or get one up on the system but in his defense it did not say anywhere only one story submission so I guess it was within the rules..congrats on your robe man!

I posted the link to the Herald which says "most memorable moment". Granted this could be read in a number of ways but at the spirit of the words it would seem that a moment is a singular event. Take it for what it is, my only concern is multiple winners for a single person. If the topic isn't raised than those who have the concerns will just jump to conclusions which doesn't help at all. In all reality there isn't a way to prevent this so I can only hope it isn't the case.

Few but me care for the little things I have left from Folger. I would rather have that silly thing crafted by a friend, or my mom (yes really, i collect things crafted by my RL mother in game... she no longer plays)
I know my efforts are pretty much futile here...

Isn't everything inside UO just pixels? Why should we worry about any of it?
I'm sorry but I don't subscribe to the idea that we should all just thank our lucky stars that we get the privilege of being paying customers for this game. As customers I believe we should be treated fairly and with respect... We are the ones that keep this game alive and our dev team employed... EA is not running UO as a charity and as soon as it becomes unprofitable would likely be shut down. As players and subscribers who love this game we should be rightly concerned when our team implements anything that likely reduces the player base or discourages new players from joining.
The management (mismanagement) of contests clearly falls into that category IMO.
I submitted one story and won also on catskills. I am just happy to have my neat robe
I only wrote the 4 stories.. all about times on Catskills and all submitted as a Catskills entry..
And it's not for sale. (the robe I mean.)
I didn't make em up either... I do have screenshots of the day still..
