Poisoning beyond 80

Never played a Mage with Poisoning, so decided to try it.... Question: Is there any reason to take Poisoning any higher than 80?

You must have Poisoning + Magery = 200 or Greater, to cast deadly poison.
So you can do 80 Poisoning +120 Magery, and you can cast deadly.

You -must- have GM poisoning to cast Lethal Poison.

Hey - thanks for responding, Logrus...

I'm building - what I hope to be - a Mage that can really pack a whallop... My biggest problem (as usual it seems) is that I really don't know what-the-hell I'm doing once I get past about a Master's in Magery... I want to get a Ph.D., which is why I'm here ...

What I have so far is every magery-related skill including Poisoning and Inscription at either GM or 120 or both (where possible) and SoulStones for all of it... What I'd love to hear from you Mage Gods here is - some of the "methods" that you use to fight PvM ( sorry, don't PvP... I suk at it)....

Come on, it will be fun !!! Tell me about your exploits.... what you love about your Mage... the best stuff your Mage has to offer...

My understanding was that the Poison and Poison Field spells were capped at Deadly Poison (lvl4) even with GM Poisoning, is this now incorrect?

As far as I know (which is coming from the WiKi) suggests that "Lethal" is only available 10% of the time on a direct Poison spell, and then only if the target is within 3 tiles...

As of Publish 71, poison strength reduces with range instead of dropping to 1 at ranges 3 or greater. Also, players having more than 100.0 skill in both Poisoning and Magery have a 10% chance to inflict lethal poison at distance of less than 3 tiles.
Which is why I'm here.... To get input from u guys...

I didn't rate poison for PvM very much. Get a char over on TC1, set poison to 100 and go and try it to see if it works.

What other skills have you got on this template already?

Ok, that's 480 skill points, what other skills do you carry?

I took my Mage out (with his newly added GM Poisoning) and cast a few Poison Fields.... They are all Deadly Poison...

Mage/Mystic/Stealthing is the most versatile PvM char I run. Summon RC or EVs, stealth around, fire off the spells, and repeat.

I run 57 SDI on suit and jewellery, I carry a load of slayer books that can be auto-selected with the Pinco UI for EC and I use the Scrapper's book for anything else.

120 Magery (100 skill / +20 ring)
120 Eval
120 Mystic
120 Focus (100 skill / +20 ring)
100 Med
100 Hiding
75 Stealth

*edit - corrected the skills.

Pvp Mage..nice build good against mages and gives you a bit of help against mainly throwers

120 Mage
120 eval
120 med
120 resist
100 scribe
80 nox
50 parry

Use heph shield with 1fc adds 10 parry
-20 Mage wep with hit spell
70 dci a must
Corpse proof (80 fire/poison)
If you get lots of mr you can drop med to 80 and bump parry to 90 (gm with shield)
100 lrc 40 lmc
I have 20hpi- not completely needed but since you aren't chugging it helps
30 sdi

100 str
55 dex (modded to 80+) helps with parry
100 int

Alright so I haven't tested this, but if I remember the way fields work correctly you should be able to Lethal with a field. However, don't consider the field as being a Lethal Poison field. Every time someone steps into the field and gets poisoned, there's a chance for them to be hit with lethal. (So you can basically cast one field, and run in/ cure/ run in / cure and see if you get hit with lethal once to test. It would still be the 10% chance)

The 10% isnt worth it.

Is this a PvP or PvM build?

If PvM go Mystic/Mage/SW and stack as much SDI on your suit as possible.

Hey STM, what a coincidence, I just finished commenting on one of your posts in another thread (it was complimentary so relax)....

It's purely PvM - ( I say purely because I decided years ago that I just don't want to expend the mental energy that PvP involves.... just too old for it... too bad UO wasn't available 35 years ago, it would be a different story)....

So you'd go Mystic/Mage/SW.... Sounds really interesting... Can you tell me about what spells you use, on what, when.... Would love to hear how you spend your time on that Mage !

All my builds are PvP. (Though my pure mage carries slayers)
Did you get to try out that running in/out of fields? I havent had a chance to get on TC

Carry all types of slayer spellbooks. Stack SDI on suit (I'm at 56 not counting book). Depending on the creature I know the type of resists they have and that usually dictates what spells I cast. For instance Navery is fireballs and flamestrikes as mana allows. RC obviously for a tank. WoD to finish it off.

Not going to kill Peerless solo, but anything below that is no problem. I'd certainly argue that it's the strongest casting PvM template currently.

The best way to increase poison level is to cast evil omen then poison. Unless this was fixed in the past few months it is a guarenteed poison and if within 2 tiles it will increase the level by 1, making an 80 poison necro mage able to cast lethal poison every time. I just tested it actually and as far as I can tell it still works. I'm talking from a PVP point of view however. Nox fields in pvm are pretty bad, and draw a ton of aggro that most mages can't handle.

That's my exact template. :)

Carry a trapped box and orange petals

- All super slayers a must
To take this a step further, there are some regular slayers you want to carry with you. I have a Spider and Dragon slayer on my toon at all times.

Super slayers x 2 damage
Regular slayers x 3 damage
