I understood that the robes would be exclusive to those who attended the event - or won them in the story contest - or the one given by JSkalski on his twitter account.
My understanding also. But as the saying goes...Never say never.

Already saw some people trying to get 700m+ for their robes + Stating there is and only will be 70 total + other wrong "facts".

I am not selling mine for anything!
Nor I, it'll actually go on a mannequin for display. Although getting 50 mill towards the Duke title would be tempting, I'd hold on to it for the sentimental value to me.

Kinda pathetic how many 'have nots' are whining that they didnt get anything.
If certain people take the time and effort to attend a special event what is wrong with only them receiving a very special item?
A child could understand this.

I don't think it's about gimme gimme gimme.

Lets think about the last year, and just for the sake of argument we will exclude those that do not live in the US. How many UO players are there? How many of them have had accounts since 1997 or 1998? How many we're actually at the party? 1%? .5%? .01%? Now how many do you think would have been there if all the trip expenses were included with our monthly subscription? 80%? 90%?

The point is this... This game is played by people of all socio-economic classes. Not everyone has the freedom or money to spend what might be hundreds or thousands of dollars to come to a party across the country. Does that means they have supported UO less? Are they somehow less worthy of the same recognition of being here for the 15th anniversary?

Like I posted before, I completely support the idea of them getting some special items for free so long as those items are available to everyone else for a price... Like the lithograph. They got a free signed one that those who didn't attend didn't get, but if they want a lithograph to commemorate the occasion they can get one. This I support. What I do not support is giving away in game items that are not available by other means. I find this insulting to all the other players who support this game with thier subscriptions. The reality is, while the party was an "open invitation" there is absolutely no way that they were prepared to host a party that would have accommodated all of the UO players and they know it. The commemorative items should be available to all UO players, not just a very select few.

So it's about luck of the draw? Maybe look at it like the RNG, sometimes it will favour you, sometimes not. Maybe the next event will be held at a time and location that is convenient for everyone, until then all those complaining can spend their time building a bridge.

If you truly believe what you say then every item should be available at a price, thus to achieve any goal you simply need to have the most money, meaning those with the largest disposable incomes win. This nullifies your statement that real world economics shouldn't play a part in the game mechanics.

This is not Socialist Online, it is ok for someone to have something that others do not. There are many things in UO that I would like to get my hands in but I missed the opportunity, too bad for me.

I agree, the 15th birthday of Ultima Online belongs to the entire playerbase and, to my opinion, the entire playerbase should be entitled to the Commemorative Robe.

It should actually have been given together with the Anniversary bag, IMHO. The code should be available to the entire player base, as I see it.

I disagree. This Robe is to Commemorate the 15th Birthday of Ultima Online and so, is something which, to my opinion, the entire player base should be entitled to have.

I don't really care about the robes, although they do look nice, but I have a friend who felt like if it's going to be anniversary-related, it should be available somehow to everybody around for the anniversary, in-game or in-person. He argued that since we are all paying the same subscription fees and it was items done by the team, it should be available for all.

I think he's just pissed that it was TheGrimmOmen's last wearable artwork and that the robes aren't tied to people who attended the event in Virginia and are showing up for sale.

I could kind of see his point, that if people had spent the anniversary in-game, that maybe they should get a shot at it. The robes do look nice and it would be nice to have a wearable remind of the anniversary.

But those people who attended had to pay a fee to attend, and in theory that money went to pay for the dev time on the robes, so whatever.

You're not special because you have an item someone else doesn't have; and you're not reduced in stature just because they can get it. But you are giving a window into the poverty of your soul by declaring just how little real worth you have that you have to define yourself in that way... especially in a computer game. Weak minds demand exclusivity and division; as I mentioned, I'd be disappointed if the robes don't indicate uniquely where they came from, but I hardly feel like my life has less meaning because other people could access them and be happy with them. And I pity those of you who would.

In game drops that are RNG base are as fair as the distribution gets. Everyone who plays their subscription has a shot to get them if they attend. Handing out codes for ingame items to only a select few and not making those available by other means is totally and completely different than ingame RNG.

Everyone who posts here could have also written a story for a chance to win. The robes are nothing special and only add to more pixel crack.

What I find disagreeable about this is these kind of things are limited to those in the US or Canada etc, what about the overseas players, i.e. EUROPE or elsewhere in the world outside of the Americas that have supported this game though all the crap times as well as the good times.

Exactly, what the complainers want is something for free, like EA owe them something on top of what they already receive for paying the subs.

Hopefully someone will come along with a padlock soon enough.

This contest is another example of how a nice idea on the surface was horribly implemented. There were no controls related to entries... Just submit as many stories as you want on as many shards as you want...

But aside from the complete lack of contest controls, the basic premise of someone judging who's special memories of UO are somehow better than someone else's special memories and then awarding ingame content is very insulting to the player base. Yes, it may be a little idealistic, but comparing what makes UO special to me vs you may be completely different... Some may treasure their first Val hammer while I can't stand doing BoDs, but that IS the beauty of UO.

What should have happened is that a web portal should have been set up through the acct management system and allowed one entry per account. Then everyone who submitted a story should have received a code. This would have made them available to anyone who wished to share a memory. It would have also resolved the issue of passing out a few extra codes at the party. Any account that wanted one could have gotten one and a few people would have a spare. IMO that plays with the UO community much better than creating a rare commemorative item that only a few people receive.

I think it took alot of time and money for the peeps who attended. They deserve something extra for there efforts. I would love one myself because I think they look sweet but I do not see how it is unfair I did not get one.

They said the "Ghost of Exodus", and that he'd still be strong, but not quite as badass as he was for the event.
Lore nitpicking for the Devs: "Ghost of Exodus" just doesn't feel right...
"Reconstructed Exodus" sounds better for a mechanical daemon. Or "Psyche of Exodus" if it's only his daemonic soul...

The point, as I see it, is right that one. The fact that one would have to "win" a Commemorative Robe for such a milestone Event as the 15th birthday of Ultima Online is.......

This is not just yet another Event give away, this is something for all players to remember, a Commemorative Robe for Ultima Online's 15th birthday. Yet, only a handfull of players can get it and some even need to "win" it ??

I am sorry, but I cannot possibly agree with it. Not when it is referred to as a "Commemorative Robe" for the milestone 15th birthday of Ultima Online which clearly affects the entire player base and not just a few players....

Well, they could have received instead, just as an example, a code for a transfer token.........

What I find that I cannot possibly agree with, is that only selected few players are given a "Commemorative Robe" for such a milestone achievement like Ultima Online's 15th birthday when this clearly, IMHO, affects the entire player base, not just a few players.......

Popps, so your only real problem is the name on the item, if they dropped the '15th' tag would you be ok with that? Maybe you would prefer them having received 'A commemorative robe' 'A door Prize' or something similar. As I deduce, are you merely clinging to that ridiculously thin argument to try and moan your way to owning one, this item despite its name was not intended to go to every player.

I am sure you can enjoy the 15th year of UO without one.

Did you not receive the backpack with the cake and special hourglass and all the other goodies that every character in the game got? Those were the items for every person.

Also, how does it affect the whole playerbase that only some people are getting a special item that is purely decorative?

It maybe purely decorative, but damned if it isn't going for insanely high prices. Worth hundreds of RL dollars. I admit it'd be nice to have one just because it was TheGrimmOmen's last wearable artwork, but it'd be even nicer just because of how much it's worth to sell.

Would be cool if this were available as a special, limited time item for purchase on the UO store to commemorate the 15th anniversary. I'd rather this than the poster or whatever it is they put out for $65 anyway.

People attending the events getting stuff is fine: an in-game card or something with "_____ attended the UO 15th anniversary celebrations" or whatever, but unique items specifically to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the game which we're all part of? That's what makes it a bitter pill to swallow for most, I guess; watching a very small handful of people get unique, highly desirable anniversary commemorative items when everyone is apart of the anniversary it commemorates.

In short I have no problem with in-game items for people who attend real-life events that note their attendance. I just think this particular gift, manifesting as a unique anniversary wearable and not being accessible to the vast majority, just puts a bad taste in people's mouths and I can fully understand and appreciate the reasons why.

Indeed BUT, if that Robe is labelled as a Commemorative Robe for Ultima Online's 15th Anniversary which pertains to the entire player base, then the access to that Commemorative Robe should not, IMHO, be limited to only a few players.

The Anniversary is for all players and all players should be entitled to be able to have a Commemorative Robe as a memento of such a milestone achievement.

That's at least as I see it.

Screw the robe, I wanted the cake :(

Seriously though, can't there ever be anything special or unique in this game without people whining because they didn't get it? And of course there are people trying to sell it for insane prices, happens all the time when something unique is introduced.

Besides the fact that a Robe can be worn and thus be more effective as a memento for remembering the milestone achievement, aside from the bag the only 1 item that is clearly labelled as 15th year is the Cake.
Frankly, I personally see the Robe which can be worn and shown as more a Commemorative item for this milestone achievement than the cake which is more of a collectible because of the various names attached to it....

Also, how does it affect the whole playerbase that only some people are getting a special item that is purely decorative?
The 15th Anniversary pertains to the entire player base. Thus, is my thinking, all players should be entitled to the most Commemorative item to remember it which I see as the Commemorative Robe which they can wear. It is not the Robe that affects all players, it is the Anniversary milestone which is shared by all players thus meaning, at least to my opinion, that all players should likewise be able to have access to the Commemorative Robe which is a memento of it.

From my point of view, this party in Virginia is like an EM event held on a weekend. Because of my job,I have to work every weekend. No exceptions. I miss out on alot of fun and items that are handed out by the EM's. The same thing happened here.A saturday party that is three states away from where I am. I don't think it is fair, but what can be done? Do I hope they put the robe up for sale in Origin for a reasonable price? Do I try to find one for sale from another player for a "Luna-price" of 700mil gold?

I think my real question is why should someone that attended the party have a chance for that kind of financial winfall? 700mil gold? A possible $250 or more in real cash on a RMT site? This is what I am against.

Things have always been given away at town halls - heck half the folk there were wearing UO T Shirts from previous ones. At this one they gave pixels.
Time to end this I think.
