Please dear god can we get the archer AI in despise fixed??

Come on Dev's, if you don't understand what is wrong with it, please come spend 15 minutes with me and I will show you. Archers that run into corners and hide... Archers that run three screens away from their target... Archers that stand there and do nothing...

If you programed them like this on purpose you really should look into a new line of work... if you didn't program them like this on purpose, FIX IT!

He is correct though. They run off and hide around corners so the LOS is lost, or run off out of range and just stand there.

how about fixing andros so poison cant hit him and other player attacks dont wotk on him period. if you want him discoed get a phantom. if you want him poisoned get a naba.

and i would ignore you also

you did by looking down your nose at this poster. The error is thinking they care to begin with. They dont. example: test center( where they reley on me and you to find the bugs) and the overwhelming amount of mistakes made each and every publish( even after test center ). The fustration shared by this poster is the bottom line.... not wheather the poster articulated it in a manner that is polictialy correct isnt the issue.

The point is we have more than enough bugs and issues in this game without them programing in more. If they can't add the new content without the poor coding, I would rather them stop adding content and fix bugs. If our Dev team is adding content like this on purpose it is obsurd. If they are not adding it like this on purpose they need to do their job and fix it, preferably BEFORE they release the publish. IMO there is NO excuse for crap like this to make it into the game in 2012.

Arrrr, me loves their crazy tactics! What archer in their right mind a-gonna stand toe-to-toe to melee with their bow and nary skin or some bone for protection? Me do find disturbin' that these apparently be not your typical mindless undead...

I'm confused are these NPC Archers doing this ? Just asking because of the way you posted what these archers can do, how the devs programmed them, and how they need to fix this.
But
If you are talking about player archers how would someone go about Fixing them? there is noway anyone can fix a player. I do have stone footwear though, any archers willing to buy stone footwear?

I am referring to the semi-controllable (but not really controllable at all most of the time) pets used in the revamp of Despise.

The running around corners, a 3 screens away, seems to be an issue with the NPC/Monster archers's new AI and the Z axis in UO. They try to get up to 10 tiles away, and because of the way the game views the Z axis, that can lead them off trying to get to a spot that is around a corner, a screen or more away. (this should try to be fixed, maybe a line of sight requirement?) What I do then this happens, is try to turn then defensive asap, so they come back to me, then re-aggro.

As for the stand there and do nothing, I have always found there to be a reason why, and it is correctable with the control orb. Most common issue is, Archer flags on a monster thru a wall, no line of sight. You have to put him on defensive and pull him around, then toggle aggressive back on. On occasion, a slip, allowed the lease setting to be put to Long, change it back to short. Lastly, if your last setting with the orb was to tether it to someone, like Andros, your next pet on the same orb will still be set to that.

I believe your explanation of why is correct and I understand that by constantly toggling the orb control you can try to manage the pet, but all of that belies that fact that is was poor, sloppy coding to put it in that way. I mean come on, it is doing a range and line of site check to fire the bow, why on gods green earth they couldn't insert that subroutine into the archer AI is beyond me. I think the concept of the new Despise was great, but I am sorely disappointed with the sloppy coding and testing that is done before the publish goes live. The archer AI is only one of many obvious issues (like pets that heal the boss DUH!) in this publish. IMO, publishes like this continue to erode the reputation and player base of this game. I for one would rather wait an extra couple weeks for a publish and have the coding issues worked out than push beta code out and wait for players to sort through the issues. Let us not forget this is their job... If most of us did our job half way and waited for our customers to find what mistakes we made we would be out of work.

Id like the ai on all the them looked at. Like why when one the things flag you they will follow you around the entire dungeon going around stuff. Yet a controlled one gets stuck on a little rock and cant figure out how to get to you even though you are 3 tiles from them...This goes for tamed pets as well its just amazing how ******** they get when tamed/controlled.

I would like to add to this. I have now ran out of arrows twice with my archer. Both times it has stopped us finishing the champ. Who would have thought that they give the pets a limmit to their amo....

Devs you need to up the arrow count to at least 30% more than they have now.

I agree that the new archer AI is a little more realistic, but it seemed like a silly piece to fix with all the other stuff in game that needs fine tuning. It does screw up despise, maybe they could shift it to 3-5 tiles and see how that works. I would personnally like them to go back to standard monster AI myself, it has really screwed up my Twisted Weald soloing...having to chase down all them Centaurs.:mad:

This has happened to me a couple times as well... I posted it over on the bug forum to no avail. Sure would seem an easy fix to go add another zero or two to the end of the current arrow count in the code... But who has time for such things when there is a party to plan.
