Tragic House Accident - No Help from GM's

It's now 5 AM and I am still waiting for assistance from a Game Master. I converted a classic house (Tower) into a custom plot, then a few days later changed my mind (wasn't the best at designing...). I relocated the moving crate, emptied out the crate, and moved 99% of my things a few tiles away from the plot behind a tree. A few seconds later I demo'd the custom plot, and the stuff vanished. That happened around 10pm.

I paged a GM several times and have yet to receive a response. However, several friends of mine have paged and received responses that they can't assist a 3rd party. Am I going to be kept up past server up, only to be BS'd that my stuff is gone and it's too late? This is not leaving a good impression for me as a returning player, who has now lost all of their things, including five soulstones. :(

Yea, the customer service in this game is known to among the worst among all MMORPG's. Sorry for your problem.

I wish I could argue that sentiment, but I had other friends standing right there with me who received GM responses. I've stayed up all night without knowing anything concrete, not even a 'sorry, no' or a 'get lost'...

As my stuff decays underneath of the map's mesh....

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! That's gotta suck.

I NEVER trust anything like that when moving house. I always empty everything of value into pack horses or move to a friends house and/or backpack and bank.

Sorry for your loss. I'd call it a write off.

Well I finally got a response, at 6:15 AM. I was told what I was afraid of - that unfortunately, once items have decayed they have no way to verify.
So I still want to know why a few of my friends received GM responses when they paged, and yet I've waited since 10PM last night (stayed up all night) only to get a reply at 6:20 after server restart?
This has been awful. 5 soul stones, gone. Irreplaceable rares. I quit, for good this time. I can't keep up with this crap and don't appreciate poor customer service.

What actually happened? You placed the items away from the plot and then when you dropped the plot they vanished or when you went back to get them they werent there?

If where you put them was no-where near where your plot was.. then its nothing to do with the housing issue... its your friends (Or someone who was stealthing near by)! Stuff dosnt just vanish like that, its taken.

Sucks for you, but why would you ever place soulstones on the ground? It's not like they weigh 2000 stone each

This is NOT true. I have seen items OUTSIDE a house vanish when a plot is demoed. The few times I have seen it happen it was junk idoc loot sitting outside a plot I placed and dropped after the idoc fall. There is no mistaking when 20 or 30 chests/items vanish the instant the plot drops... They were not looted by a stealther. As others have said... If it is something you want to keep lock it down in another house or bank it.

To Expand on Promathia's suggestion and those of others....

As long as you're not on SP or Mugen, you'll have 5-7 character slots - use them. If you have multiple accounts, you might even be able to pull this off using just characters riding giant beetles (and, if their house is on the same shard, fill it up with lockdowns).
  1. Get all your heavy items either deeded, or into a character's bank. Assuming each character has 50 items in the bank on average, that will give you your 375-700 (depending on # characters and if your bank box has the storage expansion) - perhaps even approaching 1000 items for 7 characters that are mostly empty.
  2. Now, load each of your character's packs (other than the house placer) up with your lightest items, and dress them fully if not done so. That will probably get you 100+ items per character.
  3. If this is going to be a short-term drop and rebuild, have each character acquire a full load of pack animals. You MAY be able to get away with a beetle and 2 packies on each character, but 5 packies will work for 250 more items. Feed them to where they are happy.
  4. Find a friend you can have watching your packies. Load up any beetles first, to see if you even need very many packies, then load packies, starting with the ones for the house placer. All loaded packies should be left in a TRUSTED FRIEND'S HOUSE (outside fel), so they are safe from attack, and that friend should be logged in while you're doing all this, so that if a pet goes wild and drops its pack, they can lock its pack down for you. If you really trust them, you can also have them friend THEIR packies to you, and you load them up, and since they'll be logged in that will be another 625 items for you.
  5. At 500-700 items per character (and, theoretically, approaching 900 for a character that started naked, with bank expansion, and nothing in bank), there isn't a house out there that holds more items you can carry (and it is hard to imagine someone with over 600-750 non-deedable items too heavy to be stored in a packie, or be transported to a bank) given the changes to what can be deeded, which is what it would take for weight ) . If you end up as one of those theoretical outliers, put those big-ass piles of your least-value items on the ground - if they're really that big, nobody's likely to carry them off either.
  6. Do all the banks, paperdolls and packs, then do the packies one character at a time as noted above.
  7. When the house is empty, demolish/resize, and build the new one.
  8. IF you have parked packies, start with the character that was logged in the longest time prior, log in, grab the pets, and unload the PETS ONLY in the new house. Then go to the next character (any empty packy will autolog with you). Also unload any packies friended to you at this time. You'll know you are done with the packies when all you have left is the last character's empty packies.
  9. NOW, you can go back in any order (preferably the same, to keep things straight), and unload their packs, paperdolls, and beetle (if used instead of 3 packies), as these have no time constraints. You'll probably want to also use this time to release or give away any of the extra packies you bought for this (a it could take several weeks for them to simply go wild, and can even bond with you if they last a week and you feed them - when I was training my fletcher by doing Heartwood quests for runics, I only had 2 stable slots and 5 pack horses (and 1 real mount), 4 of which were bonded with me from simply being logged out empty every evening and fed). Preferably, release them some place like New Haven where someone might have a use for them.
On SP & Mugen, it's a bit harder
  • You may only have one character, but many (if not most) Siege players have more than one account. Be sure to make full use of any houses you have also on SP. Then, load up each account's character as above.
  • Packies other than a beetle per character are up to you and your trust level. Now that we can start more than one client instance, multi-account SP players can have each account up with a full set of 5 pack horses in a secure part of a friendly house, logged on as the same time as the one doing all the moving (so you don't have to leave packies on unsupervised). This is also an option for multi-account players on normal shards, but less imperative.
  • Never underestimate the power of community. SP prides itself on theirs, in the face of the self-inflicted harder ruleset, so you should have some friends you'd trust to hold a few hundred low-value items on their own packies during the move (after all, if one of the packies holds all the fish from boxes set up for a cooperative, you SHOULD be able to trust one of the other contributors to hold them all for the move, as they could have cleaned it out at any time; the same goes for shared crafter supplies, etc.).

I am absolutely amazed that anyone would actually just set rares (or any other valuable items) on the ground in a chest..

Packies are dirt cheap, and a person can control quite a few at a time.

This one really puzzles me. And to quit because a person failed to employ reasonable methods to safeguard their items, and then blame the game and/or game masters for a failure to do that for them, is definitely beyond me.

I feel very bad for the loss, but as Basara very aptly pointed out above, the methods for ensuring safety and compete retention of all items is definitely within the grasp of any player.

To any new player or anybody thinking about playing UO please understand that it is UOs policy not to replace items lost in UO. Also if you page a GM DO NOT leave the spot that you are having a problem at.

To the OP are you serious. You have been here for 15 years and you leave stuff on the ground while you drop your house and then come here and complain. Who in thier right mind drops Soulstones and Rares on the ground when dropping thier house and then when you page a GM you leave the spot and better yet cancle pages to repage again. WOW And now because of your own fault you are trying to blame GMs and closing your account, give me a break.

To the MODs I think this should be moved to SNR because that is what it truely is.

hey listen , was it her fault for not being careful with her stuff sure but it is a bug of the game that anyone that has done an idoc knows all too well from vanishing chests to even pets going missing so yes you can blame the game if is a freaking bug glitch .

second from the moment the problem started to the reply of a GM took several hours on a sunday night to monday morning that type of customer service for a game with monthly feeds is a slap to the face for her and for any vet of over a decade of playing this game and returning back. if they promote a 'come back to our game please' and lack the extra man power to, at the very least send a reply of 'we cant do a damn thing about it' then something is wrong with this help system.

In many games now they have chatrooms specially for talking directly with the Gm or whoever can help, in many of this cases had there been a faster response maybe things would had turned out better.

Is not like she is begging for a favor she pays money for a game and the least a person can expect is a fast reply , now 13+ years of gaming gone , yes she might be partially at fault but don't dump the full of it on her when is a game glitch that has been on for years and they haven't done their jobs. I'm also a returning player all i see is the population has gone down , customer services have gone down , the community care we used to have has gone down all that went up was the freaking monthlies.

if EA , mythic or whoever runs this show is going to promote a 'return to this game please' event and not hire extra people to help paying customers then something is seriously wrong with this.

Sorry to hear you lost your stuff..
I've never even trusted the moving crate... when I redo a house I empty it all the way.. Very time consuming but much safer.

I lost a bunch of really valuable stuff once to the gypsy bug.. Got the same answer from the GM on that too.
So I feel your pain.

 I kinda feel a little bit for your loss, BUT are you out of your mind placing items on the ground and hoping they survive. If you had freinds there then should have been EASY t oget a bunch of packies and freind everyone to them and placed stuff in them for a short time.

Again i feel a little bad but, but you know there are better options.o_O

Anyone else wanna rush in and kick the guy when he's down? I think he gets the fact that he probably would have been safer using other methods by now you know.

Fundamental points:
- Regardless of the method chosen, items shouldn't be disappearing into thin air. This is a bug and needs investigating and fixing.
- It's about time GMs got audit logs so they can replace items accidentally lost like this, particularly account-bound items like soulstones and so forth.

I agree 100%.

UO needs a complete rehaul when it comes to items, Especially account bound ones.

This person took the items out of a moving crate, set it on the ground, and then demo'd the house, and those items disappeared with the moving crate even though they were not in the moving crate.

All the person needed to do likely was remove from crate, lock them down in the house, and then move from house to ground, and then demo house. But hindsight is always 20-20. This is a bug, and needs to be fixed.

Yeah that was the plan. It was two boxes, a chest and a metal box. One of them weighed a ton (had ingots, boards, etc) and my characters red, so I did what I thought would be okay. My own pack was full of stuff that I moved but could hold. I was maxed out haha.

The plan was to demo the custom plot, re place a classic house, and walk the box inside. I've done this many times over the years. I've had problems with items in the past, and a GM has always helped, until now. It was out in the middle of nowhere and I thought it'd be safe. Oh well, lesson learned.

Aside from my own stupidity and hasty actions, I'm most upset that it took a GM from 10 PM to 6:20 AM to reply. I stayed up all night hoping for a miracle. But I had two other friends page for a GM a few times, and they got responses. What's that all about??

@smurchoch Since you seem to have some idea how this bug is triggered, could you please make a post in the bug forum?

Some personal attacks have been removed from this thread, and I think, to avoid any further attacks, I'm going to lock it.
