real developers have left, on this game we are getting interns and fan based developers over, real industry, qualified programmer's
we pay a game that cant run a web site to update players, cant operate a web site to take monthly subs in a business manner, defaults to fan based fan site to promote and inform player base.

Both Bleak and MrsTroubleMaker are overly qualified programmers. It is true that we have lost DrummerGirl (Lead World Builder), Shade (Game Designer), Logrus (Engineer), Axel (Engineer), Argyle (Engineer), Supreem (Lead Engineer) and TheGrimmOmen (Lead Artist), but we do have two new developers, Onifrk (Lead Artist) and Kyronix (Game Designer). Onifrk worked on UO, as well as many other games, and has close to two decades of experience. I'm not sure if Kyronix worked on any other "real" game before. The very last software intern I know of "created an application to run on the player’s machine to convert the existing asset files into the new format so players wouldn’t be required to download them" and "heavily modified the UO combat system so healers and tanks are able to receive rewards in battle", according to him, so I really hope we still have interns around working for the game. After his internship ended, he became a software engineer for Wrath of Heroes.

It is true that the current website is terrible, and MyUO is not working since its been "temporarily" shut down last year, but they will hopefully will be fixed in the coming few months. It is not too hard to see that the account management website cost a lot of players their houses, but its mainly because those players didn't even care enough to login once during that period, and it is depressing to know some of the subscribers don't even play the game. Stratics stays as the official forums of the game, and it is a fan site, so the last statement is actually correct too.

If I remember the tweet from Jeff correctly, and I know it's been mentioned a couple times here on stratics, the UO website should be back up by the end of September.

Might I suggest though that if you're going to ask questions try and not make it look like nothing other than a pointless attempt to fling more mud around. If you want to rant then take it to the rant forum, if you have questions pose them without looking like a ranter.

Interns & fan-based developers? Where did you turn up this info?

EA should hire developers who worked back in the 90's when UO was created and know the programming language UO is written in. We would likely get far less buggy new software as a bonus.

The new bill payment system was certainly a brainfart on someone's part. Only someone already seriously addicted to an EA game and needing gameplay fixes fairly often would bother with it. You have to wonder how badly that shoddy billing system has made people who thought about joining an EA game go elsewhere. Would EA's Star Wars have done much better if that new billing system hadn't been in the way? You shouldn't need a written guide to set up an account with a game.

At least EA had the sense to do this. Can you imagine their trying to handle organizing that much game data for a game this deep? Look at EA's past performance.

friends most have quit, veteran rewards why i still have one account open, chat channel open to see if old friends looking for help loaded with 6 year olds pvp banter, that if parents supervised might not be there
welcome back, checked older accounts had to re do every password to open them ?? also they where linked, this probably would end most players from bothering. once they actually activated days later
showed son harpsichord then said he couldnt get deed logging in on his accounts, went on a run through d3 for arties with him,
yes could have paid for a month for his accounts but that is 1/2 the price of a guild wars 2 account for him which would most choose if had to pick one ???

am i mad about welcome back not giving gifts no, should they like a good carney operator gave me a reason to resub for gifts, i might have done it

What's the hook to log in? Depends on you I guess. I can find more things to do in UO than I can find time to do them. Yesterday I made 2 suits for a friend, hunted a few imbuing ingredients, made some suits for my Siege vendor, went on a stealing trip round the dungeons that have such things, fished for stone pavers in the abyss, sheared some sheep and wove the cloth for bandages on my Siege vendor, tamed low level pets to re-stock my pet stall on Europa, collected seeds and resources from my garden beds.
Things I wanted to do but didn't have time - finish the Siege suits by imbuing lrc on some of them, get them on the vendor, dig some treasure maps, do some fishing quests, get a few more gains on my bard in training, take my warrior into the abyss to get bushido gains - I'm finally adjusting her template, attend the gate event on Siege and a few other things I can't remember now.

Well a big thank you and Bless You to most of the folks that have commented on this post. My Gawd ----- I see optimism!!!!!!!! That is so great, I get sooooooo tired of seeing doom and gloom from a minority overshadowing us folks that love this game and have played it for years. If ya don't like it, keeriminy, keep yer trap shut and go on to sumthin else! Oh yeah, I have multiple accounts as well, so what, I'm just like Petra, not enuf hours in the day to do all the stuff I want to in game,, dang I love it!!
