Account server is going through maintenance right now, likely in preparation for Return to Britannia. They expect it to be back up in another hour and a half.
Hopefully it doesn't revert, I was stocking vendors.
Oh great, I was next to a freaking ogre.. They could have given a message or something.. How could they not know after 15 years?

Account servers are the login servers. They check to see if your account is active and your password is valid, then they pass you on to the server of your choice. They are also the servers that check such things as account entitlements (can you access Stygian Abyss or High Seas content for instance) as well as veteran reward stuff.
Anyway, I was just able to login on my active account.

Account center maintenance again, does NOT mean the login servers will be down. The login servers are never down when they do the maintenance on the account management. Not to mention the login servers were only down for what, 10 or so minutes during the 2 hour estimated maintenance?
i just got back into game again.
And you don't think it has anything to do with account maintenance? Things like this have happened over the past 15 years. It might not be down during the entire maintenance cycle, but it does have it's impact with these hiccups.
