What Do The Virtues Look Like Under Blackthorn

More chaos! Maybe a Chaotic Moongate in Blackthornes new castle that randomly teleports you somewhere in UO.

Of course it all depends on how much Blackthorne has changed while locked in the void with Exodus. Maybe he will have a profound new look on the virtues and how they should be.

Lord Blackthorn's Code of Virtue

In Ultima V, Lord Blackthorn, the tyrant who ruled in Lord British's absence, codified the Britannian Virtues into a set of draconian laws, known as Lord Blackthorn's Code of Virtue, and Blackthorn's Eight Laws of Virtue.

Honesty: Thou shalt not lie, or thou shalt lose thy tongue.
Compassion: Thou shalt help those in need, or thou shalt suffer the same need.
Valor: Thou shalt fight to the death if challenged, or thou shalt be banished as a coward.
Justice: Thou shalt confess to thy crime and suffer its just punishment, or thou shalt be put to death.
Sacrifice: Thou shalt donate half of thy income to charity, or thou shalt have no income.
Honor: If thou dost lose thine own honor, thou shalt take thine own life.
Spirituality: Thou shalt enforce the laws of virtue, or thou shalt die as a heretic.
Humility: Thou shalt humble thyself to thy superiors, or thou shalt suffer their wrath.

That was the evil Blackthorn who was corrupted by the Shadowlords. If Blackthorn were to come back to UO, as has been foreshadowed, he would be much different than the villain of Ultima 5.

Casca played the role of Ultima V's Lord Blackthorn, complete with the corrupted 'Virtue Laws' during the Warriors of Destiny arc. So, been there, done that.

Blackthorn was never "against" the Virtues, he just believed in a less rigid interpretation which left ample wiggle room for diversity and free will. His version of Chaos wasn't the destructive, anarchistic sham perpetrated in UO, he simply wanted a populace that thought critically instead of acting out a moral code by rote.

As evidenced by the Gypsy's questions which precede many an Ultima, not all the Virtues play well together - thus individuals must sometimes walk a contradictory path.

Can anyone expound on what the virtues would look like under Blackthorn?
The virtues under Blackthorn would look like America under Ron Paul :p

What Martyna said. He didn't want blind obedience to the virtues, because he knew there would always be situations that fell into a gray area, and anybody who was blindly obedient wouldn't be able to act (or react).
