A Set of Three Garden Beds

  • You will be able to purchase a set of 3 garden beds without having to buy the Rustic Pack (still requires entitlement)
For $10 more than the Rustic theme alone, and $5 more than both Rustic and Gothic (oh, that's right, you can't buy them as a package anymore, nevermind), you can get one portion of it which is now officially valued at approximately $6.67 each... which is to say that everything else in the Rustic theme is now valued at approximately $3.32.

And $4.99 to not have to wait 7 days for a pet to bond? Oh, I'm going to have to go buy some shares in EA so I can put in a shareholder request for the sales figures on this in 6 months.

Someone over at EA is completely out of touch with price-points. The concepts themselves are good, but someone's wildly insane on the pricing.

And yes, I already anticipate the "You don't have to buy them..." response. The point isn't whether or not someone has to buy them or not, the point is they should be priced at a price point to encourage their purchase.

I believe that they should be priced at a point that it dosnt unbalance the game, which by looking at it they are priced as such.

If you make it too cheap then you might as well get rid of the 7 day bonding cycle altogether. As for the rustic packs, the value of these are set by EA NOT players.

You think 5$ for one week wait time is too much or is too low? Iam of the opinion it is okay.

What about the fact that they changed the description of the old Advanced Character Token, it now says " * This program is available on all shards for Siege Perilous and Mugen." And of course the new Mythic Token doesn't say a thing about Siege or Mugen, which will lead many people to purchase this thinking they can use it there, when it was tested last night that you can't. Very shady practice, whether it was a typo or not, but why change the description of the old token that way ?

The garden beds make no sense though. The cash shop exists to make more money from UO, and while the team doesn't want to create things that are priced so low that they unbalance the game like say $5 or $10 character tokens or $2 pet bonding tokens, $19.99 for 3 garden beds is very odd. Not even the Sims are that bad.

I cant really answer that.. except that they obviously dont want it all over the shards.. or are trying to keep the value of them to a point that the existing owners will be happy with?

I am digging that Mythic Character Token. Maybe it is time to make a tamer bard with those 90 skill points in taming, lore, disco, provo, and peace.

Maybe you do, but I can't imagine there's going to be a lot of sales of them. Not when all you're doing is saving someone a week's wait for a pretty finite function. It's not like it's a multiple use item or anything, and when the average player will just put the pet in storage and haul it out a week later to bond with it, it makes the item seem pretty overpriced. Consider that at least with the garden beds, you're saving someone having to perform some specific task.

And again, the price points should encourage the purchase, otherwise, why bother put the item up for sale in the first place. As for balance, I get that the garden beds remove the need to perform gardening, excepting that you have to wait the full time for them to reach maturity anyway. Which is to say while you're pulling out the having to water, potion, et cetera (which might have some economic impact in-game -- if there was a real economy to impact), but you still have to wait the growth time, so its balance impact is limiting. Essentially, they've priced the garden bed at "buy 2, get 1 free, but you don't get any of the other stuff you used to get when you were buying the original 2 in the first place." It's a poor value based on the set it came from.

All in all, these price points are too high for what they are. Not saying they should be free, but reasonable. I think $2.99 for small things is good (ie: the pet bonding potion), and the beds should have had a maximum price point of $4.99 each -- $3.99, however, is where I'd set it as optimal.

And yeah, I suspect we'd have to all become shareholders to see the sales of these because they'll never, ever tell us, but mark my words, the sales on these will be poor. (Queue people rushing in to tell me they've bought them, thus indicating that "everyone" will buy them. *grin*)

Yeah, I had to use soulstones and TWO of the old tokens to make mine (though I eventually stoned off one bard skill to be 6x120 +105 magery with equipment)
