UHall/Stratics Technical Suggestion...

I've noticed quite a few threads that people have had difficulty reading because people have changed the color of their text so that it works well on their particular background. A long time ago I ran a site where we had user-selectable themes, and what we did was created separate CSS stylesheets for each theme, and the colors that were available to be posted in were unique to those templates, but matched the same slot in another template. What I mean is basically this:

When text was white on a dark background, in the same slot using the same identifier, the text was black on a light background.

The practical upshot of this is that on a person's own theme, the colors were as they intended, but on non-matching stylesheets, the colors were still legible. And you could still do different shades of colors, but shades that are appropriate for the stylesheet.

I think I speak for most everyone, seeing black text on a dark gray background because someone switched to black on a light background is infuriating, and having to highlight the text just to read it in post after post becomes tedious.

Begging and pleading. :) Thanks!!!

if you really want to read what that person is saying just highlight theri text. I know its work for you the individual but it works.

if your idea works and is easy to do then I am for it if not ah well:oops:

I'll see what can be done. Of course if people leave the text at default they get black on light themes and white on dark themes with no problems. :D
Black text on the dark background mostly comes about when the text has been copy/pasted from another program and the formatting has copied too. There's an eraser top left in the edit box that will remove formatting if you're copy/pasting and don't want that to happen.

I don't want to change my theme..... I like the black. Don't like folk typing in black though.

I raised a similar irk in the super secret staff chat this very morning.
I usually just highlight as a matter of course, but needing to do that does break the flow of reading.

This is why I often communicate in My Little Pony clips.
They're readable whatever the background colour.
Honest.

The "Class" theme allows users to set their own colors independently, including background color, text color, and link color, as well as background texture. Afraid that's the option available to us at the moment.

I did not know about the eraser. I will look for it next time I have that issue. Thanks, Petra.

Does that override colors that others use to post in though?

I do sort of understand that what Petra's saying... colors imported from an external source... might be difficult to do anything about because it would require overriding whatever it is that's being pasted in...

I'll have to play with the themes and see if they're already doing what I suggested, though I suspect they're probably not since black is actually available as a color on a black background. Ah well...
