What Is It?
This is a gift to the Ultima Online community and the Ultima Online team to help celebrate the 15th Anniversary, and to help UO players track what is in development. In September of 2010, the UO team stated after the UO Town Hall (August, 2010), that they would like to develop a more consistent method for updating UO players about what the team is doing. In September of 2011, Jeff Skalski, the Ultima Franchise Producer after taking the reigns last year, stated that the UO team wanted to "work on ways we can improve that (communication) for everyone."

We have taken Jeff's words to heart, and we know how busy the UO team has been. This is an area that is perfectly suited for a fansite to help the UO Team. It's been well over 5 years since the UO community had the means to see what the UO team is doing as a whole, and what they've recently completed. Inspired by Jeff's comments, and with fond memories of the original UO.com Update Center and Development Cycle pages, as well BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic Development Tracker of today, we present this gift to the UO community.

Why Do You Include Some Things, But Not Others?
It's a development tracker, not a publish tracker. This is meant to chart the development of Ultima Online as a whole and to provide the bigger picture, not track every single holiday gift, vet reward, and publish item. UO Guide and UO Stratics do an admirable job of tracking those items already. That's not to say that we don't track some smaller or unique things - we do when we find them interesting and where we think they will add to the game. We are covering 2009 to the current day and future because much of what has happened over the past year was first talked about in 2009-2010.


But (Insert a Topic) is Missing or inaccurate!!!
There are at least 3-4 topics that have been left out, and they will most likely be added within the next few days, however we are not all-knowing and all-seeing, so please contact us. If you find something inaccurate, please contact us, but understand we are basing this on what has been publicly stated by the UO Team. We are not interested in private correspondence or comments made by UO Team members who were not acting as members of the UO Team.

It's broken down by category, and then item. There are nearly 140 items in this database, and some of the items will have 5+ notes covering multiple years. In some cases where statements made by the team covered multiple items, we might display those statements in multiple places. The category and item descriptions are a judgement call - it's best for you to use the Search Box to find what you are looking for.

What Does Status Mean
Read the explanation at the bottom of uodev.UltimaCodex.com. Do note that we erred on the side of caution with some issues where we weren't sure - rather than list them as canceled or completed, we listed them as unknown. Feel free to contact us directly with updates, but please provide a link to the UO Team member's comments, so we can verify the information for ourselves. We will not publish unverified information.

In answer to some questions from an email.

Don't see the database? On the Front page simply scroll. I'll try to make that more clear on the site.

Yes we will keep it updated. That's been our plan. There are 140 items now with quotes from the UO devs ranging from the artwork update to classic shards to arenas to the clients. We already have several times and quotes to add to the database so keep an eye on the Changes page.

Summaries....would be good in many ways but it also introduces the chance of bias on our part creeping in, either positive or negative. It might also put words in the mouths of UO developers. We will look into it though. If we can do it in a neutral manner.

What did a dev mean when they said this or that? That's not for us to interpret. You need to ask them. We provided this so you could see what they are saying and doing. You need to ask them here or elsewhere.

Again would like thank everybody, we received a lot of private emails and responses at the site and some really good suggestions. A lot of questions were answered but many were raised. We are compiling them and may submit them to he UO team if we can't find appropriate answers.

I'm going to cross-post this from UO Forums.

Now that it's live, and now that we've received a lot of feedback, we are taking a look at some things about making it easier to understand what is happening, or perhaps drawing attention to key areas.

We do have some projects to tackle and add to it that we left out for time reasons, like adding the Sudiva contest stuff, a couple of videos, some other things, and then we have monstrous projects like delving into everything said about Factions between 2009 and 2012. That almost deserves to be in its own database.

One thing I have not yet mentioned to the UO team is that if they want to work with us on clearing up any of the unknown parts or correcting any errors about statuses, we would be more than happy to export it into one of several formats for them to import into UOHerald.com. If they just wanted to send us corrections and point people to our site, I'd be more than happy to keep it updated as it is for them.

I think it can be a very useful tool for the UO team to show people what's being worked on and what has been said.
