What is the best weapon in your mind?

So I been thinking about putting down my trusty spellbooks and picking up a weapon... But which weapon? What should the properties be? I have only been a mage, so using a weapon is so new to me...

I guess my thought is train my skills around a single weapon... Is that even a good idea? I mean for my mage suits, I always have the imbued properties based around my spellbooks. Keep in mind I play Siege Perilous, so switching weapons is probably not my option, I rather just Siege Bless a really really good weapon. I said really good weapon right? Oh yes I did... What I mean is... I do not mind spending more gold then I can make to have a really good weapon, since it will be my only weapon... So...

I want to take in everyone's thought process on why they choose that weapon, and why... Is it because you prefer to be a macer? A swordsman? A fencer? Or even an archer?

So I guess what I am trying to ask is... What is the best weapon in your mind?

:mylittlepony:Thanks!

P.S.
Come play with me on Siege Perilous! :p

I guess I forgot to mention that important detail huh?

It will be for PvM... But it would be interesting to me to know about PvP also, even though I don't PvP...

:mylittlepony: Thanks!

For PvM I´d go with SSI, Hit Lower Defense, Mana Leech, DI and Hit spell/another leech/Hit Chance Increase if I were an archer.

SSI, HLD, Mana leech, Hit lower attack and DI for a macer/sword/fencer.

The warrior just isn't a one weapon template. For PvP you have several weapon specials to cover. For PvM you want a weapon that does Armor Ignore for single targets and one that does Whirlwind for multiple targets like champ spawns, mini-champ spawns, etc. On top of that, generally you want a slayer weapon for the champ/spawn you are working. You need multiple weapons but you could just carry the one you need for the spawn you are doing. If you are doing a champ spawn you could stick with your whirlwind weapon and not do Armor Ignores when you get the champ up, that'll keep your weapon load down to one. Given its Siege and not everyone has max stamina, max SSI on their suit, etc you would do well with a Radiant Scimitar. You don't need to imbue Swing Speed Increase to reach max swing because it is a fast weapon and it has whirlwind AND it is a one handed weapon if you are a pot chugger or your template uses a shield. I'd go with these configurations:

When there isn't a slayer type for what you are going after:

Max Hit Mana Leech: 1.0 Imbuing Weight
Max Hit Stamina Leech: 1.1 Imbuing Weight
Max Hit Cold Area: 1.0 Imbuing Weight (even with whirlwind I love the extra cold area damage)
Max Hit Lower Defense: 1.3 Imbuing Weight
The last .6 Imbuing weight is put into Damage Increase

When there is a slayer property, swap out Hit Cold Area for the Slayer type and adjust Damage Increase accordingly. If you are fortunate enough to run M&S reading glasses you could swap Hit Lower Defense with Hit Lower Attack or Hit Spell or or or or you get the idea.

For Pvm I go macer and I use the waffle bats (testubo) then imbue them for what I need, check posts above for good examples.
For Pvp I always go fencer for speed.

That said most of the guys I play with run swords, more versatile and a lot more weapons to choose from.

Now keep in mind that I and everyone I know also have archers as well.
Though it's considered a melee skill I don't consider archery or throwing melee as they are distance skills and the weapons can have different attributes that the other true melee skills can't have.

And of course with UBWS u man rotate through any of the core melee skills.

You can break it down to be specific, like champ spawns, ect....

As much as I love Leafblades... the best weapon overall in this game (imho) is a Soul Glaive. It's the highest damaging weapon in the game and it has AI as one of it's specials.

On my main I keep a leaf blade at all times. That is my favorite weapon. I try to have the usual compliment of fencing weapons I need for the situation but there is one leafblade I never leave the house without.

From UOGuide:
The Frenzied Whirlwind Special Move was added during the Samurai Empire expansion. It deals damage to all enemies within 2 tiles in two successive hits over time. This special move can be activated by setting a key macro for the appropriate primary or secondary weapon ability or double-clicking the icon in 2D. The icon will highlight red when activated.
  • Mana Cost: 30
  • Requires 50+ Bushido or Ninjitsu skill to use.
  • Will be fixed in the future to deal a reasonable amount of damage instead of 5 or less.

Throwing is the most OP skill in the game. Soul glaive for pvm soul glaive/cyclone for pvp.
I agree. Base damage is to high for the speed it's used at. Base damage should be 15-17 at most.

I think the Leaf Blades of Ease is the best weapon in the game if you're not including Soul Glaives.

If you're not using a gargoyle you should use something with the special move Feint. I use a Leaf Blade. When paired with 120 Bushido it reduces damage you take by 50% for a few seconds.

Just wanted to add:

While Soul Glaive is the most damaging weapon, I prefer Leaf Blades- they are more versatile, plus when you combine Armor Ignore with Feint- that's pretty awesome for a melee character.

When someone ask me this question I ask them what type is their favorite weapon class. Swords, maces, fencing, bows- Throwing is pretty limited.

Given the weapon choices in each category- there are similar enough weapons that you have something pretty good in each.

Add me to the list of people who love the leafblade. It has 2 of the most useful specials in the game that combine both defense and offense. Feint is a great defensive special and AI is a great offensive special.

I also agree that the base damage of the soul glaive is to high and out of line with the comparable ranged weapons of Archery.

I'm speaking strictly from a melee PvM point of view here, as soul glaives have already been brought up.

1v1, definitely a leafblade (fencing). Feint and Armor Ignore on the same one-handed weapon? Aww yeah. A longsword for armor ignore (swords - duh) can give you much greater damage output but you also need 180+ stamina and 35 SSI to swing it at max speed. So if that's an option, I would recommend that. Macers have a war axe for armor ignore and it's a bit faster than the longsword and lower damaging but not as demanding to hit max speed. It does have the benefit of draining targets of their stamina, which is a big help in some prolonged fights. For comparable feint weapons, your only real option is the Daisho (swords). I think the stats are the exact same as the leafblade, only it has... double strike I think, Instead of armor ignore, and it's two-handed versus one. Macers' only feint weapon is the Tessen, which is fast but low damage. I'm not a big fan of them.

Mods:
Hit Mana Leech
Hit Stamina Leech
Appropriate slayer
Swing Speed Increase
Damage Increase

That's your basic setup. Now you could potentially drop swing speed increase on a leafblade if you have high stamina and some SSI on your suit.

For spawns/multiple enemies, you can't go wrong with a Radiant Scimitar. I think at 0 SSI you need 150 stamina to swing at max, which isn't hard at all for a warrior character to get. That free space is now clear for a hit area effect, which combined with the Whirlwind special is just ridiculous. Go to a champ spawn and just hit whirlwind over and over and bodies will surround you in seconds. If you're a macer, I think it's the black staff that has whirlwind. Fairly comparable damage in speed, just a little slower and it's two handed rather than one. Fencing has the Kamas, which have low base damage. I've never tried them personally.

Mods:
Hit Mana Leech
Hit Stamina Leech
Appropriate Slayer
Hit _____ Area
Damage Increase

Now keep in mind that if you find you hit the 300 DI cap without the DI on your weapon, and/oror you have 100 or nearly 100 on items without the weapon, you can swap out damage increase for a mod of your choice.

Wow! Thanks again for even more information! Looks like the common theme is "leech" on a weapon... I will make a note of that. I do like the way the Leafblade looks, small and cute. I think I might lean towards the Ornate Axe... I don't know about you all, but I think it would be kind of hilarious wielding such a big bulky looking weapon as a first weapon and being a girl... :D Maybe it is just me...

Looks like I have some more research to do about the kind of skills to go with swords and armor I need for this char... :( It never ends...

:mylittlepony:Thanks!
