Had company a few evenings ago, and so I was in a hurry to tend to my plants. Didn't pay a lot of attention, so in one sense it's my fault. But I just got thru tossing quite a few that were wilted and dying, because it seems we are back to the point where when you click the potion application icon, it gives the message but doesn't actually do it.

Sucks too, gathering seeds for the gargoyles, and having it wiped out because of coding problems. This is an old problem, one of the many that needs to be addressed, should have already been addressed.

It's just about to the point where even friendships won't be strong enough to keep me in the game =(

Wow all over a single bug!?.
A single bug? What game have you been playing?

Here is a quote from our Producer... quoted from her recent Producer's Letter: "Currently we have documented 1173 known bugs in our system"

Bugs like that have quite big consequences, having half your vanilla/sugar fail means that you can't keep up with the competition for the gargoyle quest, and the past month of your work is wasted.

In my opinion, the quest is terribly designed, but that's just me.

I was having the same problem with clicking the potion application and not getting it to apply. I checked my bag and had a stack of 50 Greater Poison potions, but every time I application button it didn't apply. The potion sounded like it did, but the number didnt update on the dialog.

Solution: I separated one of the potions from the stack of 50 and tried again. This time it worked fine. Now I just use kegs.

I also had the wilted plant problem. You can save wilted plants by adding 2 Greater Heals, 2 Greater Strength and any water they need. It can bring plants back to vibrant the next day. You may need to repeat the process the next day if still wilted. But it definitely works.

It usually is not just 'one thing'. It is more often the 'last thing'.
This.

Yeah I know about moving the stack to get em to go. Actually had to move the stack for every plant that needed a potion! Move it, it works once, then gotta do it again. Swapping them out with others did not cure it. It's just another round of clickety click, like we dont have to click a mouse enough times now...

I just use the potions in kegs and haven't had that problem.

Same here. I use strickly the kegs in a set bag just for my plants. ;)
Now for a tiny point for Uriah Heep that you failed to notice... you have friends to play with and talk to... be happy in that. Some of us have very little left of those precious people.
Failure in a game can yes be fustrating and when it takes alot of hard work it can seem daunting. Only here is the rub. This IS a game and games tend to have pit falls that you and I cant control. Be it bad coding or our own fault in how we play... but still it is just a game. :)

When I left UO back in 1999/2000 it was because everyone I played with and my guild at the time (G*B) had left for one reason or another. While UO has never really been a game where you get a party- need healers, enchanter, shaman, off tank, ect, it is a game that really sucks to play alone all the time.

This

The last time inspired a six month break that likely would have wound up permanent if someone hadn't ICQed me when my house was a couple days from collapse. The bull droppings bugs do pile up way to deep at times and overwhelm the fun.

I also think that the quest could have been designed better.......

Introducing the competition to have to "match" other players' cures turn ins was a very bad idea, IMHO and I fear it will leave out a lot of disappointed and unhappy players getting peanuts for all of their effort and time......

Rewards should have been tied instead to a set goal of a given number of cures, period.

I would not be surprised to learn that a lot of players have simply given up with this quest and not participated at all to the competition feeling that they simply cannot even try to match the number of turn ins of some powergamers on their shard......

One thing that also worries and bothers me and quite some is the fact that scripting is still a reality in Ultima Online and I do not see how on earth I can ever compete with a scripter when I do not script........

A very very bad idea, IMHO.

I stopped gardening outside of the maintenance free garden bed. Too much hassle for my taste.

When a product that customers pay for to use it is intended for "entertainment" I honestly do not understand why it even considers repetitive "chores" as parts of it......

Maybe it is only me, but personally, I do not consider repetitive chores as a form of entertainment I can enjoy.... besides, my free time available for leisure is very scarce and so the little time I can afford I really prefer to spend in the best possible way and repetitive chores are not, to my opinion, anywhere near a good expenditure of my precious and scarce leisure time........

Popps, you must be a liberal for sure. Everyone who participates, whether they work at it or just piddle at it gets the reward. That just wont work, or else everyone would just turn in a couple of cures to get the reward, and go back to banksitting. I don't have the problem with the tiered rewards, The problem I have is ya spend all this time farming seeds, then planting, and almost when it's time to start getting some benefit from them, a bug wipes half the crop out.

I had no complaint about the quest, it's the everlasting constant bugs we have to fight that get me.

Everyone who participates, whether they work at it or just piddle at it gets the reward.

From what I have understood, there is 4 rewards from a simple decorative sash to some nice sleeves with good and fight affecting mods....

Now, my understanding is that not everyone wh0 participated and turned in cures will be able to get up to the 4th and best reward. Only those players who turned in the most cures will get the best rewards and all those players who turned in a lower number of cures will need to be compared to the "top" turning in players and if their number of cures is too below the top ones for that shard, they will only get a sash if at all....

Those players who turned in the most cures, I seem to understand, will even get all 4 rewards in one shot.

Now, unless I got it all wrong, a system as the above basically tells to players not having enough time to even try to compete with powergamers, players with garden beds and so forth, not to bother participating and spend their available (little) time to play Ultima Online doing else because their realistic chances to get anything past a sash are very low.

That's at least my understanding of how it works.

Now, if I am correct, I can't see this as a good system for Ultima Online as displeasing paying customers, I think, does not help much keeping their accounts as active..... Now, I am not saying that rewards should be handled on a silver platter at all, I am just saying that I would have much more favoured a system with a set number of cures for each reward.

For example, 50 cures turned in for each reward. In order to get reward 2 players should get first reward 1 and so forth. That is, I would have liked more a system where any and ALL players would have known that by working their time to turn in 200 cures total, this would have earned them all 4 rewards.

Want to limit the number of rewards per shard ? Then limit them to 1 type of reward per character or even 1 type of reward per account/shard if needed.

But definately, I would have much more preferred that players could have known FOR SURE that by turning in X cures they could have gotten the 4 rewards and not this unpredictable situation where some players might have done some work and see hardly anything only because on their shard some players turned in hundreds upon hundreds of cures thus leaving their tally far behind and causing them to loose any realistic chance at any good rewards.

That's at least as I see it.

God I hate to say this but for once I really agree with Popps.

I personally looked at the time and effort involved ..... calculated what I felt I'd be able to actually do... listened in on others planning their moves and decided that the time and effort going in would be a waste since I honestly don't feel I can compete with many of the others who are already doing the quest. And given that the Sleeves were the only thing I found appealing I decided to just say no.

Now if I knew for a fact that if I worked REAL hard and turned in 200 cures I'd be awarded the sleeves then I might be inclined to do that.... but since I'm told only the folk who turn in the "most" will get them and I have NO way of knowing what that number might be for all I know could be 500 to 1k... I am totally soured on the entire quest and have lost all interest in participating at all.

Yup that sums up how i felt also. When you feel as if you cant compete with the power gamers there is no point in even taking part.

The quest is an EPIC FAIL

Last week I agreed with Flutter, now I am agreeing with Popps. Is there any way to redeem my soul?!?! :D

I was away for a while and the computers I had access to could not be used for outside purposes. When I did get back and see a healers quest, I was excited...untgil I read how it was being "scored" and realizeed there is likely no point even neven trying the quest.

It may be about time for a self imposed break...
