Anyone give me a quick rundown on how to reforge - 15 mage weapons?

I am just curious if anyone out there wouldn't mind spending a moment and giving me a quick rundown on some easy ways to obtain - 15 mage weapons that would be useful with imbuing.

I played around with reforging on test center a bit and it seemed weird, so hopefully someone can shed some light on a decent method to get this weapon.

you need an ash runic saw or copper hammer. saw makes the bokuto and copper hammer makes a kryss or dagger or w/e else you might want to wield. most prefer the bokuto because you can enhance it at the end to get the hpr or w/e extra mod you want depending upon how you enhance.

essentially you start out making normal weapon with reg tool and than reforge to get the 15 mw. i would deflect to semmersets charts here as there's a detailed thread on what properties to select to get a chance at a 15 mw roll. as is the case with uo expect to burn a few saws and hammers to get the rng.

you will also need the stone of enervation to remove the damage inc prop on the weap so you can add your necessary mw mods.

others might help here but i believe you have to fort the weapn first before removing the damage increase but i'd ask someone else to confirm this point.

I make them with dull copper hammers by picking brittle and no repair( more like you can repair it once or twice) and the one that says wizardry. It sometimes takes me 2 hammers but I will get a -15 mage weapon with no other properties or a good property like spell channel. I use slow one handed weapons so they last longer.

Can you link it I went there looking for a post made by Semmerset and I couldn't find it, I probably overlooked it though.
and on another note does that Forged Tool (the thing off the uostore) give 100% to leather reforged armor enhancement?

Just for the sake of answering the question in this thread, here is how I made my -15 mage weapons:

Craft execptional bukuto with plain wood
Reforge with Ash saw - Powerful Reforge paired with Inspired Artifice and select Exquisite/Quality (took me 8 or so tries to get a clean -15 mage weapon)
Powder to 255 durability
Apply Whetstone to remove damage increase
Imbue: Spell Channeling, Faster Casting and DCI 15% (you can forego the faster casting in favor of a hit spell effect if you have the casting on your suit already)
Enhance with Forged Metal tool and Bloodwood

End result is:

Hit Life Leech 16%
Spell Channeling
Mage Weapon -15
Hit Point Regen 2
Defense Chance Increase 15

And yes, the Forged Tool bonus for enhancement works for Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Fletching and Carpentry

You were extremely lucky to get a clean -15 MW on the 8th try. I went through multiple Ash saws and ultimately gave up and opted instead to go for a kryss and copper runic hammers as I had way more of them then ash runic saws.

I have made several and it usually doesn't take me more than 8-10 trys when I get ready to make one... perhaps you just hit a bad RNG run.

The key for me was doing only the Powerful with Inspired. I tried with the higher reforging options and did not have nearly as good of success getting a usable one. Keep in mind that self repair drops off once you imbue so that is a property that won't count against you.

Yes, that is what I tried. I did not have the success you did when I tried it. I just want the OP to know you may get it on the first try, or you may get it on the 20th Ash Runic Saw.
Just depends on the RNG.

Okay so I made a - 15 mage weapon with a copper runic hammer. Now I have no idea what a Whetstone is or where to get these.


Nevermind it looks like they are from Shame and I have 0 interest in that. Apparently I am already out of the - 15 mage weapon business.

what kind of char do you have sel? i farm wind eles on 3rd level of shame and everyone drops a crystal. believe you need 60 to summon the mini boss on each level. kill each one and you get the whetstone. wind eles go down easy using a whammy with an ele slayer but you can do just as well with a mystic or tamer. if your on chessy i could take you down there and show you where to stand ...etc.

you could also buy the whetstone or trade for a 15 clean weapon or something else.

I think I am doing something wrong with this method.

I got my Ash saw and I select Powerful, Grand and Inspired to select the Exquiste/Quality tag, and I have made a few bokuto's with -15 mage wep but they each have an extra mod ex (15 mage weapon, 40 damage inc, 10 dci) luckily this is one I can use but how do I just get the -15 mod with no extra's?

I tried just doing Powerful and Grand without a tag and I made this: 15 mage wep / 10 ep / 20 mana drain / 40 damage increase.

When I did copper runic hammers the weapons came out with just 15 mage and 40 damage, which leads me to believe I am doing something wrong here.

It is just luck of the RNG. Reforging is a little like runic crafting with the ability to focus some or all of the properties. With a mid level runic they have enough power to get the -15 Mage weapon that the low level can't, but it also means that there is often some left over power that gets applied to additional mods. By selecting only one prefix/suffix you leave that to the RNG but use fewer charges of the runic. In contrast, if you incease the runic charges or runic level you are virtually certain to get additional properties that you may or may not be able to work around. I like my meathod because, while it is possible to get a clean -15, it leaves open several other mod possibilities that are usable... Self repair, spell channeling, dci,and faster casting.

I don't think anything has changed since these thread comments were made. The same technique still works. And like I mentioned earlier, you may get what you want on your first runic kit or your 20th. Depends on RNG.

What has changed is that 2h non-exceptional weapons have 550 imbuing weight. It won't be as useful as a 1h -15 MW but you can make a suitable 2h -15 MW without the whetstone.
