Luna - EMs please read and everyone post their thoughts

As much as i would love for us all to move back to bank sitting at Britain, as many others would like. I think it is just not going to happen, multiple attempts have been made in the past and none of them caught on. Luna bank is just too regular in peoples minds now and too efficient in it's closeness to shops around the outside.
Only way we would move back to Britain is if Exodus was on a permanent spawn at luna bank lol.
Or well i did have another idea if any Devs are reading but i doubt it would ever happen, thats delete all the NPC buildings around West Brit Bank and turn them into player housing plots. Only problem with that being that the city in that area would lose its building theme and it would probably end up being a bunch of rainbow coloured houses.

But anyway i'm babbling so i'll get to the point. Since it looks like Luna bank is here to stay can we please do something to spice it up a bit? I've been to other shards where the area has been decorated by their EMs. This is Drachenfels for example:



Luna is the ugliest and simpliest city in UO, it also hurts my eyes sitting at the bank lol. Its quite sad so maybe we could have a competition to make Luna Bank a happy place again? With the EMs go ahead of course, like what happened with West Brit Bank which Slugmaster won.

People can decorate the main bank area and bit around the moongate:



Then submit their designs to wherever by a deadline and the EMs pick a winner. Then a plaque can be put somewhere in the design with the winners name to make sure they get the gratification they deserve.

Luna is not exactly pretty, that's right, but Britain would become just as ugly.

Mal...did you read past the first block of text? The main suggestion was to redecorate Luna, not to rebuild Britain (which I agree wouldn't be great)

I don't sit in Luna myself as to me it's just a market, for business not pleasure, tarting it up wouldn't change that for me but I don't see why it couldn't be done. Although Luna bank is one of the few places I actually lag these days so maybe making it even more complicated wouldn't help with that.

On the other matter... Luna could be a lot more attractive and the idea Esca has is pretty decent.

I like the idea of a enhanced Luna Bank area. I love our Brit bank area and think that is the best of all the shards, so I am certain the talented artists of Europa can come up with something as good for Luna.

Some Luna banks are nicely decorated while others have loads of tiny items in all known colours and looks just messy. The items are often from events but that makes it more displaying than decorated.
I miss green fluffy plant stuff to soften the edgy sandstone, not plants in all sorts of hues, just natural ones and some wall hanging tapestries or banners.. Luna white, leaf green and a dot of sandstone colour..

I too think our Brit bank is the best and I go there alot more than I visite Luna.

I have no real opinion either way - I spend little time at banks these days. Might be nice if it looked a little better but I think the actual layout inhibits much freedom of expression concentrated as it is in a small area. With the old Brit bank there was plenty of room all around the sides of the banks for various enterprises like animal sales and dice games etc. I think that the glory days of bank-sitting where you could stand and watch the world go by are gone forever. Whatever is done to Luna it will never reach the same level. It is unfortunate that the use of Luna has become ingrained so Brit bank wont return to those days either.

I gather this will be an official competition now? I was unable to make the EM meeting I'm afraid, so I wanted to add my own idea here. It's a simple one, but one which has a lot of personal resonance for me.

In 2001 I was finally able to own a machine that could run Ultima IX: Ascension (Dragon Edition). I purchased it along with the Ultima Collection, which made the third time I'd owned a version of the Ultima series on a different machine... Sega Master System to Commodore Amiga to Windows MEeestake edition PC. And on the the back of the Jewel Case for UIX, was this simple advert for Ultima Online.

And as I made my way through all the content I'd not yet seen, from DOS Akalabeth to what turned out to be an .... um... inexplicable final installment, in the time before I learnt about no-CD patchs (amongst other things) I'd keep taking the jewel case out, and gazing at that screenshot bottom right. It just made that world seem so alive, so full of potential stories... who was getting executed, and why? And why wasn't I there to make a scene about it?! (*ahem*)... I signed up for Ultima Online very shortly after.

This is what Luna should be now. The tileset is already close enough. But make it alive with NPCs! I want to see people bartering for cows, queueing for bread, arguing with the bank manager about overdrafts... there should be people running 3 card monty scams around the streets (table with cards on it) and dice games... There should be a small church upstairs in the room with the ankh, with a procession of crazy people ranting about the virtues and the apocalypse approaching for abandoning them (And more importantly, commenting on recent EM events; "Woe to ye who kill without trial! Yay, curse they who heal the people who wish to die too!") Every month or so the EMs could add commentary to the towns-people about specific things they've seen about individual players or roleplayed events; "I hear Escaflowne got caught in the bear pit at Moonglow Zoo again", really make it feel like Luna is not just a soul-less place but is actually connected to the community.

Simple text... lots of bodies... but let's make Luna sing...

Errrr, nice idea but fail:

You need to have Exodus spawn at BRIT WEST BANK for a month because EVERYONE will be there to fight him 24/7 - and afterwards you will have the peeps back there because they will always auto-recall there cuz they used too

My West Brit Runes on half my characters are still blocked from the Slugmaster changes.

The only chars they work on are the ones with Spellweaving.

Feel free to add some war paint to Luna if you feel it needs it, but don't block any tiles in the process!
