"Projest Oasis".
In the beginning, there was nothing. " Build It and They Will Come".
That is the 'emphasis' theme around this project. What is the 'project' you ask? The raw beginnings a brand new town. BUT! Not just ANY town/city. A town that has a "REPRESENTATION" of every guild on the shard in the form of a "CONSULATE BUILDING". What? What are you talking about?
I am talking about having a town, where every guild on the shard would build/construct a building, known as a " CONSULATE". A Consulate, for those that don't know, is a Diplomatic Building that serves as the residence or workplace of a "Concul". It is where, as a returning visitor, new visitor, new or returning player, can come and enjoy the following:

* Be introduced or re-introduced to what's going on in the game of UO
* Be a Helpful place to help get you re-started or started in the game
* Be shown around the Sosarian World to re-ignite memories or to see if this world fills your desires
* To craft you the things you need to get started in the game, most free of charge to help you get started
* To get Questions answered wether new or returning
* To investigate and check out the Various Guilds that are represented by their "CONSULATES BUILDINGS on the shard and to see what each have to offer to make your game play go in the way of your interest.
* Be consulted by some of the most knowledgeable players in the game or by players that have great knowledge of the inner workings of the game and the world of Sosaria.
* Be directed to areas of where you, as the player, can get things repaired, imbued, crafted, or just looking for those perticular items.

Now. Getting something like this off the drawing board is not an easy step. (as some might know). Alot of planning, time, money, etc. goes into this and it is our desire to ask, persuade, and talk to the various guilds on the shard to build a "Consulate" Building in this new town, (The First Ever). It will be a first. No other area has ever proposed such a move in this direction and we want all of the guilds/alliances to be a part of it.
I would like to meet and talk with those possibly interested in this project to please contact me, via- e-mail, ICq, PM, or any other means as to wether or not your guild/alliance would have an interest in this Projected project of "Oasis".
Something to think about.......
Returning players, after being gone for years, come back and feel like they are "brand new" to a game they once enjoyed. Many things have changed over the years and some need questions asked or help getting re started.
New Players get into a starting city and are blown away quickly because they are totally confused and lost.
Our goal is to show these new or returning players we want them to stay and enjoy what we do. The only way to do that is to have a center town where, after their introduction to Ter Mur or Haven, they can be brought to or shown this wonderful new town where all the help they need are all in one spot and a "recruiting" area for guilds to show these players what each have to offer.
A "Charter" is being drawn up , but not alll inclusive, so that all Consulate "head officals" of the guilds and their Consulate buildings, will have an idea of what the town is based on, their virtues, as well as other matters that would make this a grand town.
It is also hoped that the "Head Officals" / Representatives, will be honored as being on the "Planning Board" for Oasis and take an active role in creating various RP things for Oasis. The ideas are endless and Oasis would make a grand place to have meetings to set up all types of player run ( or EM run) events, etc.
SO IT IS ASKED, that you leave a response to this idea of having a town that would fulfill many of the things mentioned above. (and I'm sure there are more). You can also PM me, ICQ me @ 613919628, e-mail me at : [email protected]
Below is the First "CONSULATE" building at this new location.
Thank you and hope to hear from those interested.

Alot is being worked on and the founders are busy meeting and writing, also meeting with tenative "Consulate" Officals. There are 3 thus far. But stay tuned for further developments as we work on this town.
Thank you very much.

Hmmmm. Well, we were thinking that the New Town of "OASIS" would be made up of "CONSULATE" buildings first that would have representatives there, message boards, etc., and then go from there. Maybe with the training, craft places, etc. either put around the town or runes set up to transport where those places are available. I would really like to get a feed back from everyone that might be interested in this project. Would help on wether or not a project like this is worth the undertaking.

To me the project seems to be something that townships should already be doing, another township being built when most are already underpopulated seems confusing to me but it may be because our township are setup to operate with multiple guilds running it and not just one. Perhaps townships doing such a building in their own locations and connecting them together would yield higher results then focusing on an entire new area out in the middle of no where.

Well, I think you and possibly others are missing the point to the whole "OASIS" project. I may be wrong but don't think so in the realm of what we here are thinking of doing or attempting to do. Ok, picture this: >UO cities (player run), are set up like state capitals in R/L. They are scattered in 50 states and if you wanted to meet or be introduced to every representative of every state, you would have to travel to all 50 capitals in order to do that. BUT, if you travel to Washington DC, you could meet with every representative from all 50 states in a matter of short walking distances. (A new player especially, and some returning players, would have to travel, at first , all over Sosaria ((and they can't do that at first)) and alot would not know where to even start. But from Haven or Ter Mur, they could 'gate' to (1) area and every guild rep would be represented here.) THAT is the "Theme" for Oasis. For every guild to have a building in (1) area/town, where someone like myself could walk a matter of seconds to another building and see the representative, their boards, charter books, displays, information counters, and even talk to them if there.

I know there are quite a few guilds on Chessy and to have each of them represented by having a "Consulate" building in one area would be cool. It has never been done before and the last time anyone attempted to be under one roof was at the Summit Meetings, that got killed off. (and that was a shame because it was a great place to inter-mingle with the other heads of "State"- representatives from each guild. So, since something like this doesn't exsists, then I say lets build a town where all the guilds can place a "Consualate" building and be represented and let not only us that are here already, but all new and returning players come to in order to inter-act with each guild on the shard, rather then spending countless hours traveling (if they can) and looking for representatives of all the guilds on Chessy. And like I said in the beginning, a person coul;d also make a decision on what guild they may want to join and be inter-act with.

I hope everyone can understand what we are trying to do. :)..But we think it's a great idea. Come on everyone. Lets do something different for a change and have something that these returning/new players can come on and say, "This is cool!. Everyone is represented here under (1) town, with cool looking buildings and all. "

It is also true by what you said about alot of 'Player Towns' going down hill with few players. But don't you see, part of that reson is because they "Don't' know how to get to other towns, never see any of the guild leaders or guilds, along with their buildings/banners, etc. But under (10 city, a player would have that chance to automatically be introduced to who is on Chessy and be able to leave messages, tap on a rune to thier guild house, etc. Then, and only then, might townships and guilds start re-building memberships and such. It would be the perfect way of players to quickly be introduced to other towns and guilds/players.

Please send in your thoughts on this idea and will judge part of the progress from there.

Thank you

The reply explained things very nicely and I look forward to seeing the progress of this project over the next few weeks before committing more resources and opening another account (Credit card getting a little maxed over here hehe)

So far Oasis has helped 4 returning players in one week. There is an official town blacksmith, a tavern, the 6 consulate offices, a really nice park, and the combined mayors office and resident's office where crafting materials and other helpful materials can be had for free, on a fair basis. Nidaros has been a major part of the design and contributions, and Lord Charles has donated a huge amount for new or returning people who participate in the new town. The general idea is to make help more efficient than randomly bumping into people who need advice or materials, or live training
The founding resident is named Lord Evann, who placed the very first house in town. The main consulate island has 3 bridges leading to 2 other islands and to the large area between the two Malas continents. It has been well received and quotes like "I've never seen anything like it!" make us confident we are onto a good plan here. Come and see the place. A couple people have been waiting on house timers to run out before placing a house in town, or some other delay. Stop in at the next to the last SW island in Malas and take a look at the whole thing.

I think it's a great idea..But it will only be as good as the amount of players that know about it and therby participate. So suggestion..don't stop the PR machine. Find a reason to post every day about something to do with Oasis no matter how trivial. And post in multiple forums.. Good Luck!

The town 'banner' display has been designed and preparations made by Lord Gareth to pass the technical requirements along the chain. We also appreciate Dudley Lightfinger's response on the matter. The end of May is the planned town 'official opening'. Runes, and printed materials will be passed out ahead of time. There will be some very short speeches, gifts, and FIREWORKS. ;)

Welcome to the update of the Oasis 'project'. The town procedures being established, and future construction having been arranged for the Guild Hall, which allows players to select from many guilds all represented in one place, are complete. The ongoing data collection of Guild information, returning players, and experienced experts for training is close enough to being done that it is ready for the general public. Transferring information to records that can be accessed 'in game' is a bit tedious, however. The mini lecture subjects have been written in three "How to do stuff" books to be passed out. Information on adding your town to the list of consulates is written in the "Consulate Guide" book. Town residents receive a pretty nifty Oasis Resident certificate available free via the magic portals of 'email' that you can print out for your wall. THose who have examined the project have the following to say, "This is great!", "It's about time!", and "I never saw anything like this!"

On June 2nd, a Saturday, and continuing for 2 or 3 additional days, the opening ceremonies will take place. On that day you will be able to take a complete tour and see how it's all set up. The town 'banner' display, if not yet constructed at the bridge to the island, can still be seen via it's full scale mockup in the Mayor's Building. The very concept and purpose of the Town of Oasis is embodied on the banner. Two Tiles, Sacrifice and Compassion, were donated by a famous Lord of Nidaros, who also constructed the first Consulate building. The banner wall engravings proclaim :
" Crafter, Warrior, Sage - Are the True Gems of the Realm "
" For Those we Lost - For Those Returned - & Those Yet to Meet "

The exact start time on Saturday morning will be Noon EST for a brief introduction and shot speeches. Runes and Event Books will be distributed days before the event. Prizes for young or returning players who have already been helped at Oasis will include a new Ship, engraved custom armor and weapons, and house items. Other activity will be ongoing later in the day Saturday.

The town hall is located at 19.35'n 37.37'w or X791 and Y1403 in Malas. Best way to reach Oasis on foot is to head south from Luna on the Luna to Umbra road, head west once you it the road side inn until you hit the bridge to the island where Oasis is. Or it is just few islands away from the Hall of Victory. Hope that helps.

I hear word of Oasis. A new player was talking in Luna about a warm welcome he received. Are town representatives using chat to get the attention of new players, and then gating them to Oasis?

"I hear word of Oasis. A new player was talking in Luna about a warm welcome he received. Are town representatives using chat to get the attention of new players, and then gating them to Oasis?" Sir Ophid of Yew

I am Lightning, the founder and Mayor of Oasis, so you can trust my answers to be the most current information, although there are a growing number of very trustworthy people who are keeping on top of the news here. What HAS BEEN happening is that people who have known me and my very worthy associates a while, are sending new or returning players to the town. We talk to them about what they already know, what is new since they departed, what skills they want to improve, and so on. While this is happening we prepare better armor and weapons for them if they need it. The money used for imbuing has been donated by patrons like Lord Charles Smithy and Lord Maedhros, Mayor Zanku and even a brand new player Kimmora. Others have offered use of their Auction House or their training expertise and facilities. Oasis is, simply put, an efficient focal point for things that help people find their way in the world, and live long enough to tell about it.

We welcome you to visit. If no one is here, Please leave some contact information on the Mayors building bulletin board at the front door. The Building is a 3 story white marble one centered among others at the southern 'shore' of the next to last South West little island on the Malas central continent. Or just ask someone to get you to Lightning.

Sorry neocron79. I have been away but back now. Suggest a day and time. Or leave the date and time you want to meet on the Mayors bulletin board on the porch of the Mayors building, The 3 story white marble one at the starry shore in the southernmost part of Oasis. It's the one with the Mayors office sign in the center of the porch.
