Anyone here a Star Trek fan? My brother is and I remember watching an episode about the "Borg Collective". It was something about a race of machines that infected and took over organisims to create a race of super beings. I'm sure someone else (a fan) could explain it better than I can. But it made me think about what another poster mentioned. That is, that the infection to the gargoyles was intentional and maybe the begining of a new "Exodus Collective" with a new half/half Monster. If it is I think I can convince my bro to come back to UO, ha.
The Borg so stole my Signature! :p

We are the New Frarc!

Another possibility: Ages ago, Jeff told us to "watch the wild dragons." (paraphrasing as I can't seem to locate the source) Perhaps that vague nugget is finally bearing fruit?

UO Stratics *New* | Sosaria Reels Interviews Jeff Skalski

Two spoilers: One–I would say keep an eye on the wild dragons. And another one I would say, let’s see… Actually, this one gets brought up a lot on the forums, so I’ll talk a little bit about town loyalty because a lot of people are like, “What is this for?” Town loyalty is actually going to be used for a couple of things. I’ll give away the first one, there’s some bigger stuff though afterwards. Town loyalty will allow you to buy a city banner for where you’re loyal to. So that’s kind of near term. In the longer term, there’s actually something much bigger than that we’re going to do with town loyalty, but I’ll save that surprise for later.
Hm...

Q was one of the best adversaries any Enterprise crew encountered.
real trekkies will know how that ties in :p
Of course. Q gave the ST crew their first glimpse of the Borg.

P.S. What name did Q give, as his name... the first time he ever encountered the Federation?
No idea man and I'm not going to go look it up. For some reason I was thinking it was John, but I believe that was the actor's name.

Hello everyone,

Ready for the next little tidbit? So we have showed you one of the items and we have hinted at a faction change we are making BUT I want to give you a little hint of a new monster that was added to the game. Below is a little small section of the monster thanks to Grimm that will be increasing your death robe count very soon! Can you guess what this might be???

actually, on a second look, the bottom right corner could be the head of a mace, which would make the scaled part the top of an arm maybe.
I give up, I think I'll just wait and see :)

Actually, that style of Exodus is it.. it was actually redrawn several more times than that and was used in several different game manuals and, if I remember right, a character portrait in Ultima 6.
In U3, Exodus isn't a big red demon, its a machine. Think of the gargoyle shrine to Diligence in U6 as an artist's interpretation of an abstract (to them) concept (computer). The image has just stuck in prime Sosarian culture.

P.S. What name did Q give, as his name... the first time he ever encountered the Federation?
Trelane was not Q from TNG.

Yeah, I'm going to say crimson/platinum dragons.

It is suprising how many Trekkies are out here. A few years ago a few friends and me started a guild on Atl [Trek] and used to rp; the crew visits UO Land at WBB {before Luna became the "hangout"} late nights. I was not too sure how it would go over but the folks LOVED it.
I've never met you, but I love you right now. . That sounds like it was a lot of fun!

Sorry, no, thats not stated anywhere as/in ST cannon. Even the non-cannon book (where Trelane is stated as being a young member of the Q Continuum) Q-Squared has him as a separate entity.

So you have time to talk smack to the player base. I guess that means you've fixed gypsy camps and all the other buggy crap in the game.
If you have time to lean you have time to clean.

I guess saying what we're all thinking makes me rude. Ok, I'll own that.
Sorry, but not all of us are thinking that. In fact the majority of the player base appreciate any information Mesanna tosses our way. To give someone crap for taking time out of their day and share some upcoming tidbits imho is wrong. But we all have our opinions and I would imagine some are applauding your doing that very thing. *shrugs*

Or a Draconian monster that is enemy of the Gargoyles?

Orrrr wait Ridable Giant Turtle....
A Ridable giant turtle. Click the bell ride to Mad Mage Isle. He may be a chr type they use to for a mad tinker.
At least that parallels uo lore. Thats my best guess...........

I got news for you, those of us who play the game are thinking just that. Fix the bugs first. I know the banksitters and the pixel crack collectors don't care, but the players care that gypsy camps are broken for over a year, enemy of one doesn't work, luck isn't registering properly and is not debuffing, pets are vanishing... need I go on?
But that's okay. Tell us how you are going to kill us all. The bugs will fix themselves, right?

I too play the game and not everyone hold to that logic. Some actuall want newer things AS they fix the bugs that are in the game currently. HOWEVER, there are proper channels to address those issues. Bug Tracking | Stratics Forums Giving the Dev Team crap about it on threads where they are giving hints about upcoming stuff is NOT the correct avenue imo.

I think it's fine to speak for yourself - but there are many "who play the game" that don't think that way... Please don't take it upon yourself to speak for me.

Also - considering that of the bugs you listed - at least one is already fixed... I think your argument just lost weight.

I am always glad for any kind of Developer interaction with the player base. When you consider how much Mesanna does on her own time rather than on company time - I don't think you have any right to complain about what she chooses to do on her time.

Dont ever stop Lightfoot. Experiencing poor game mechanics leads to this. Paying for sustained poor dev performance does the same. I will never stop Leaning on EA for what I will always consider years of neglect. I will always respect those who have passion to improve this game. Ah. Its a gorgeous Saturday morning. Where's the ABM!?

Trelane needed machinery to do what he did (behind the mirror which Kirk broke to take away Trelane's power.)
If you are going to call yourself a Trekkie you need to pay more attention, your observational skills would never get you through the Academy :p

I don't think that way either. They already have a working bug list that they Regularly work from. If they did nothing but bugs, every day, day in, day out, they'd go stir crazy and we'd be much worse off than we are now, maybe more so. Bugs are tough, and they have a life leech effect. A bit of variety in the workplace would be best overall, imo, such as it already is.

The machinery behind the mirror was an amplifier for Trelane because he was an infant. It was also supposed to limit him so he wouldn't get into trouble.. (didn't work) Kinda like a playpen.. he could play but not too much.
If you remember Trelanes parent who were full grown Q didn't need the machinery.

However there is one thing that was either a mistake on the writers part or blows my whole theory.

In one episode of Voyager, Q has a son and says something about it being the first Q child... I'll have to dig my DVD's out and see which episode that was though.

I'm lucky to play more than 5 hours a week, but ok.

As long as you've got good armor and an acceptable amount of HP's, I've never seen something do 125+ damage in 1 hit.
I don't typically get one shotted, but there has been a few times.. like Word of Deathing DF's when I'm blood oathed, PEW. So I guess I killed myself. I'm my own worst enemy!

Yep.

However, the "first Q child" is blown out of the water by the TNG episode 'True Q' where it is discovered that two Q had a child who was raised as a human.

*shrugs*

Trelane being Q is just retcon silliness.

I still think your wrong... and you've shown no proof.. just opinion.

Trelane was a Q.. I asked him and he said he was.

I also do not think that Trelane is Q. The assumption that Trelane had to have machines because he is young doesn't add up when the gal from "True Q" and Q's Son in "Q2" were both children yet they had full Q powers without the machinery.

In the Peter David novel Q-Squared, Trelane is revealed to be a member of the Q Continuum, with Q being assigned as his mentor. In the book, Trelane is able to tap into "The Heart of The Storm," the theoretical and literal center of the universe, where chaos exists; doing so gives Trelane more power than the entire Continuum, allowing him to close it off and play with the universe as he pleases. Trelane then manipulates three different tracks of the USS Enterprise-D timeline, with the ultimate goal of the experiment being the merging of all parallel timelines and the destruction of the multiverse order. Captain Picard, with the help of Q, manages to stop Trelane, though the experience reduces Trelane to a speck of his former existence. (In an interview on the TNG Season 7 DVD, John de Lancie said he believed that Gene Roddenberry, whether consciously or subconsciously, was channeling Trelane when he created Q.[1])
Trelane also appears in the 1993 DC comic book "A Little Man-to-Man Talk", and the Marvel Comics Star Trek Unlimited 1998 issue, "An Infinite Jest", in which he and Q are playing a game with the two main Enterprise crews.
Source: Trelane - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki
or Q-Squared - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So if the books are approved by the Star Trek folks - then Trelane is not Q - but he is a Q.

The whole Q/Trelane thing is blown up by the Q being extra-temporal. The Trek concept of time doesn't necessarily exist for them as we would know it. The two Q that had a daughter could very well have been further down the Q timestream than DeLancie's Q that had a son, possibly even having their child from being inspired by his actions - even if they raised her before then. Hell, there's always the possibility that if the fans end up being too upset with further tales in the new Trek timeline, that they can just have John come in and go "You've got to be kidding me" as Q and remove the latest movie from continuity, or alter things to go back to the old timeline with the new characters (aka a pro version of Phase II). His character (and the other Q) are the ultimate reset button.

Yeah. I guess when it comes to Star Trek you're either a fan or you aren't. I think it's a generational thing as well, as I grew up more interested in Star Wars (the original telling), so whenever I see a boura in UO I think of banthas.
