Posted this in another forum but it's not generating any response. Hoping more will read it here.

I played UO religiously from 99 up until the Abyss expansion. I never dabbled into Abyss or High Seas and had to let go of UO for real life issues. I have the "itch" to get back into the game and have re-activated my account but have yet to log in. I am curious if someone could help me play catch up? I played mostly on Catskills, but Lake Austin is where I ended UO. Upon quitting I was in a guild who "specialized" mostly in Spawns and PvP. I am curious as to what changes have been made in regards to skills, artifacts, weapons/armor, etc. Which shards currently have the most activity? Should I consider moving my characters from LA due to lack of player activity, etc? Any help is greatly appreciated as I feel like I am starting over from scratch.
Thanks!

Along the lines of what Tina suggested... go explore other shards before deciding to move. Every shard is a bit different in it's player base and has it's own feel. One thing I've always reminded returning players who ask this question... bigger is not necessarily better. I think quality is more important than quantity and quality is a completely subjective thing.

Skills, weapons, armor etc. will all fall into place in due time. Just go have fun and play!

Stratics is your best source of info along with uoguide. Read up on the hearld too for info on the patches. I heartly agree with Tina and Amber Witch. Each shard has its own time table of when players are there and what is happening. I too suguest you try different times and shards before you make up your mind on what you like best. And I would like to Welcome you back to UO.

I just returned about 4 months ago and also quit right as SA was released.

1. I hear Atlantic is the largest crowd of PvPers. But I also think that having a char on multiple shards is the best way to catch PvP action because sometimes one shard is dead while another is busy and this can depend alot on the time of day.

2. Learn about Imbuing and Reforging. With the exception of a few high end items. Most of your old weapons and armor are probably junk now. You can make some seriously nice stuff now.

3. If you're going to farm your own Imbuing ingredients, plan on doing alot of the mini champs in the SA dungeon. UOGuide.com has several pages of good information related to Imbuing and the ingredients.

1st, I would say that if you quit right before SA, you're not THAT out of date. Read up on imbuing and mysticism and you're 95% of the way there. Unless you want to, you can completely ignore high seas and it won't really affect your gameplay. The new publishes have some crazy stuff coming out, but they're still pretty rare and hard to get. The pvp powerhouse is the mystic mage and the gargoyle thrower (gargoyle race has an HCI cap of 50 instead of 45) though I know a lot of people refuse to be gargoyles.

Chessy (my home shard) has a pretty good play population. There is pvp, but not so much that some blue guilds can't get some spawns off. If you look on the chessy shard forum, there is a pretty new post that talks about chessy guilds. Glad you're back! :)
