I recently reactivated after a few years away. My account used to have some really good stuff.. PVP mage suits with 100 lrc / 60+ resists / 40 lmc / 15 SDI / 10+ mana regen. I had a really amazing dexxer suit, lots of artifacts, etc. I put a lot of time into this account at the expense of my virginity (just kidding.... :S), but it kind of all seems worthless now. Everyone is walking around with the best items I've ever seen. It seems like everyone has items that were once rare and seen on only a few people.

I tried unloading my mage suit (consisting of the orny, hat of the magi, armor of fortune, and some really wicked pieces) and I was offered 25 mil for it. I think I spent like 120+ mil on it along with months finding the pieces when I made it. Are prices really that far down now? I was offered 3 mil for my orny, I paid 45 for it =/

Thanks

Welcome back.

Yes, things change, and there's many new sources of items, and it's a more open field now.

Total waste of a resub. I ran around Fel for 2-3 hours the other night on my red and didn't have one fight. Not one.

I guess the days of hanging around Bucs Den with 30 people chasing each other are long gone and never coming back :(

I just started again myself, the larger guilds such as crew and Dc are rather active. It probably just depends on the times you are choosing to play. The best course is to have a few characters spread out across shards. My suggestion would be have one pvp character on great lakes and another on Atlantic ; those two shards eem to be the most active .

What is your main pvp character name, maybe I will remember you from the old days.

Eh it doesn't matter, I'm not coming back. I just can't believe how much this game has changed and died off. I actually enjoyed spending two years of my playing time acquiring items that completely suck in comparison to what every single person has now. Kind of like how it took me a year of playing UO to get my first small shack (forget the name now) in some remote area of Fel 10 years ago.. now you can have one of those in a day of playing. I just miss the sense of earning stuff, actual pvp..

I never had any mains, I used to putz around on a ton of different characters.. Colossal Anarchy, Xavier Scythe, Xian Scythe, Incubus, a freakin God, Aeryn, etc. I was no great pvper by any means, but I had fun.

I take back my friendly, and apparently premature, "welcome back" then.

Yes, UO is down form its peak and will never regain its peak.

Yes, UO is still alive and vibrant, perhaps especially here on GL.

Yes, things change, and equipment standards change, moving up, down, and sometimes merely just changing, and templates and tactics change.

What ruined it for me is that the "whiners won". Yes, this game became very item-oriented, but the thing that people never realized was that items were available to anyone. People just didn't want to work for it, they just wanted it handed to them instead. So, today, everyone has items twice as good as what other people worked a long, long time to get. I remember spending months putting together my dexxer suit. That thing is more or less crap in comparison to what others have now. If that's how people want to play, more power to them, but the game has lost its appeal to me when the satisfaction of earning something is gone.

I do appreciate the welcome back at least, that was more than I expected to get on here ;)

If you want a suit thats as good as everyone else's, work for it. Nobody has been handed anything... There are just newer artifacts, Shame/Wrong loot, and imbued suits. Find a good imbuer, tell them what you want and then farm up the ingreedients (this would be the "work" part).

You could have a decent suit within a week, or less if it is just for PvP. Then go hang out at Yew moongate during prime time (6-8pm CST) or harass DC*/CREW in global chat until they fight you.

The work isnt the same. It doesnt even compare a little bit to the work we all put in to this game 10 years ago. Its still fun once you understand it now but it will never have the same concept.

What concept was that, exactly?

In reference to armor/weapons... 10 years ago we only wore GM armor or bone and sought Supremely Accurate <weapon type> of Vanquishing...and were damned lucky if it had a durability mod or was silver. Then, if we dared use it, we stood a high chance of losing all our gear to the roaming bands of PKs.

The work now is mainly farming for resources and artifacts. But it's still work.

Farming for loot is not the same as what I'm talking about. Players are, in fact, handed extremely high end stuff now. If that wasn't the case, EVERYONE wouldn't be walking around with the top of the top stuff.

What is and is not high-end changes.

Not "everyone" is walking around with "top of the top stuff."

People whined about stuff not being available when it wasn't, and about stuff being available when it is.

You had a multi-year break, and you are shocked to see that in several years the people who kept playing had improved their suits somewhat in those years? You said yourself that people "never realized" that the high-end items were "available to anyone." In the intervening years, people got them. And got other items that weren't available at all the last time you played. Once upon a time, there were no Ornaments of the Magician in this game.

As you keep posting, though, it sounds more and more like you thought they really weren't that available and you liked it that way.

You're not coming back, you said so yourself, so why are you still posting?

Huh. I guess all the grinding I've done, or helped others do, to get X item was all in my imagination? Try to get a lavaliere, obsidian earrings, or legs of the insane tinker and then tell me it wasn't work. They sure as hell aren't being handed out like candy...

There are probably "more" of the high-end items from years ago now simply because time has passed (more time to grind), there are less people around, and because more people have purchased artifacts from those who 'upgraded' to newer SA ones.

Welcome back.

It depends upon where you look and when and other circumstances. Also depends on when you last-played. If you are used to UO at its peak, then be aware that UO's down from its peak and will not regain it. We may well go up from where we are, but we will never regain our peak. Importantly, be aware that, regardless of what you read, we are nowhere near our nadir either.

GL is almost definitely the 2nd most-populated shard, behind Atlantic. (Which, btw, crashes regularly according to U-Hall posts; I have to wonder if its population is a factor in those crashes.)

Pay attention to Global Chat for spontaneous hunts, advice and welcomes back, and (unfortunately) a whole lot of smack talk, PvP, PvP-related, and PvP-wannabe.

We have the best Event Moderators:

Great Lakes

And we have a small-ish but active RP community:

And, again, welcome back.

Yeah.. a lot has changed. I'm used to playing by myself and being self sufficient, but I can only do things I used to do (barely), nothing new. It's like group-oriented or something. Nice to see/hear from you though, hope all is well..

You're correct, I'm sure I'm the only person to ever post on UO stratics that isn't a current sub or plans on subbing in the near future.

To keep a long response short, you are sorely missing my point. I resubbed for a bit and noticed [what seemed like] everyone running around with what used to be exceedingly rare val hammer-worthy weapons and whatnot. It's just lame. 'Farming for imbuing items' and then requesting what item you want, if that's how it works, is not the work I'm referencing. I suppose I just used to enjoy the fact that anyone could get the 'leet' items if they wanted to work for them, as I had, but people still complained and complained until they become infinitely more common.

It is all-too-clear that I understand your "point," if it can be termed such, all-too-well.

You spent, by your own admission, "a few years away." You logged back in to find that you were no longer automatically as uber as you were "a few years" ago.

Others had spent those "few years" working, and the game had been changing.

You decided this meant the game now sucked, because you couldn't log in after "a few years away" and immediately own.

Games change. Someone who made a valorite katana pre-AoS, and then logged in post-AoS to see a Blade of Insanity might have the same reaction. Games change and, even more importantly, while you were away for "a few years," maybe, just maybe, everyone was working as hard as you claim to have been. *gasps*

*shrugs*
