Most valuable item

I was just wondering what is the most valuable obtainable loot or stealable in game at the moment. I am not talking about event items, birth items and other rares, just items that can be obtained during normal game play. Value, of course is in the eye of the beholder, but some items are pretty hard to get. Tinker legs for example.

In my experience, the most valuable items are the ones you don't have... and when you get them they worth nothing :D

I would say for artifact items it is a toss up between the Slither and the Lavaliere. However, an superb legendary artifact with no negative properties would probably surpass either of them. That item could have a number of varies combinations, as you say, value would be in the eye of the beholder.

A housing spot for a castle can be pretty hard to get during normal game play :gee:

Of course, a castle location isn't loot but I guess it is a stealable. It would be hard to beat the value of that. In terms of loot, I have spent the longest stretch of time and resources trying to obtain an Oracle (fishing). I gave up finally on trying to get an Orni and bought one along with other doom loot. Until they were destroyed by the devs, my sets of tokuno dyes were quite dear to me. Currently my most cherished posession is my set of 20 yellow crystallized essence. But if things were on sale, I still wonder what normal item would bring the highest price.

You're right, my mistake, I gave up on them after reading the 1 in 25,000 drop rate so I haven't even noticed the lack of gypsy camps around. They're added with Publish 65 and removed with Publish 69.6 to address the issue of items disappearing from players' houses when the camps are around.

You have a point, but really is this any different than paying good money to go and watch a football game when you can watch it "free" on TV? IMO there is real value in the experience, value most are willing to pay for. If I analyze my expenditures over the years, I would guess that at least 50% of them are for memories. Now I can't sell those memories, so they do not have real value, but in the case of UO, obtaining an Oracle has memory building value for me and as a bonus there are people who will pay for the Oracle so they can generate memories of a grand fight. In the end all we have are the memories paid in full (and worth it, usually). These "computer generated pixels" are indeed of great value.

And to chime in on what Doubleplay has to say about memories...

They can be lost but never taken. They last long beyond the time that created them, if we are lucky, and I have many fond memories of UO through the years. I spent time and money to get them. I can get money again if I want, but not time, no matter how much money I have.

So...I traded a finite resource for another, and for me, it was worth it. We all have to pick how we spend our days, and at the time I was playing UO a lot, I really enjoyed it.

Indeed memories of UO are indeed good ...money cannot buy awesome memories...alas the point is some narrow people simply pay in real money...real dollars.....huge amounts of real money..to simply buy items from others ingame...cant see any nice memories doing that?????????

I must agree. Money is simply a means to an end. It's meant to help one move along in life but isn't meant to rule one's life.

And luckily no one will force that upon you.

I must remind:

"One Man's Meat is Another Man's Poison"

and

"Everyone's Butter Melts at Different Temperatures."

I am not here to judge on those issues. I personally don't do much of that, but I have no right to put anyone down that does it (unless they buy from the Scripter sites, but that is a different topic indeed.)

To each their own.

To explain why I added this one, it is really hard to concentrate when the water itself damages you and furthermore, there are five heads behind you:

i would clear the area just above and put my dragon up there alittle to the left. let those hydras sit there drawn to my dragon.
then go in there and fish in that waterfall area - makes it alittle easier

My fisher doesn't have taming skills and they re-spawn pretty much instantaneously. I could convince some of my friends to help me out but since I have less than 1% chance to catch a lantern fish, I cant tell them for how long they need to assist me. A better approach is to use a lantern fish bait, but I still don't have any after lots and lots of completed orders. Even if I had the bait, it only increases the chances to like 3% (previously used 200 zombie fish bait with a fisherman's armor set and still couldn't caught any zombie fish) so I might still end up with footwear and an empty bait cup (which gets destroyed after it runs out if its charges).

I could take the tomato route and request that the shore part of the dungeon (where there are 3 npcs and a wandering healer just above a ship, a spyglass and a rope) be opened to fish safely, but that would pretty much kill the challenge of catching a lantern fish and I can't brag about how I outsmart the crystal hydras and caught a legendary fish from the dangerous river inside the dungeon to an amazed tavern crowd while in fact I got more death robes than fish in my backpack :).

So, yes, a lantern fish would be the most valuable thing on my display case, at least for now.

Last time I was on Atlantic some guy in the help channel kept asking for a free advanced character token...haha, so, I can't agree, there.

The most valuable item is always the one you don't have. For some reason, people on Chesapeake never sell their Fey Slayer mysticism books from Stygian Dragon, probably because few people farm the Styg. Been trying to find one for a friend. We also killed like 50 of that rat boss that drops the basilisk looking for a second chest. Those mini-champ spawns sure don't drop loot when you want them to.

just saying use any pet to make the hydra lock on. your pet is safe behind the rock walls so hydra wont respawn (i dont think it respawns)
there are pets that dont use taming (look at the bottom of that dungeon)

the only difficulty would be to lure those demons up into the upper part of that area above it :)

For 'stealables' there's always the ridiculously rare Ruined Painting .... not sure of a gold value since they turn up so rarely, but getting one of those is quite a challenge thanks to the huge respawn time.

Been ages since I posted any tips, so here's my secret Prism tricks -

You don't need a tamer. Best if you have a second account, if not, just buy 2 horses (or any other 2 pets).

1) Leave 1 at the crystal lattice room 1 or 2 tiles away from east most part of the wall. "All stay" this horse. If it's right against the wall, there's a spot that the daemons can cast through and it will kill the horse. If you have a second account, just leave a character there.

2) Go into the daemon room and kill each of the daemons once so that you have the maximum amount of time before they un-spawn/respawn. Don't want any rude surprises.

3) Lure all of them (there are 6 if I remember correctly) to the east most wall. Invis/hide and wait until they target your horse in the lattice room.

4) Once you have the daemons occupied, move to the south east corner of the room. Ride the 2nd horse to this spot and "All stay". Or use the context menu to get this horse to follow you to this spot.

5) Move up and down along the east wall to lure the serpents and hydras into following you to the part of the room where they can aggro your 2nd horse. You might also want to kill each once before starting to reset the un-spawning timer.

6) There are safe spots away from the shore while still being near enough to the water for fishing.

Other Prism related tricks:
1) A Hydra will roar like a dragon before firing its breath weapon. Once you hear that roar, hide immediately or use a smoke bomb. If you are hidden, the multiple fireballs will not target you.

2) Besides holding one of the keys for getting to the peerless, Crystal Sea Serpents have a couple of goodies - horned hide, serpent scales, icy heart and a dagger called "someone's dagger".

3) Firstly, that dagger? It's BLESSED. I love blessed items. So almost all my chars carry one.

4) Serpent and dragon scales are worth 20 points each to the Brit Library donation :D

5) Setup a macro to use the Prism ticket. This acts as an instant escape button should you need to flee.

how odd, that dagger use to be from a quest from a while back... that wolf quest, if you quit it half way through youd be left with that dagger.
interesting that you can get it now from killing those.

UO Stratics *New* | Compassion?

You get the UBWS dagger at the start of that, which changes title to the Wolf Slayer when you finish the quest.

The 'someone's dagger' seems to be the one referred to in the '"In the Belly of the Beast" quest as a 'lucky dagger' but that's not the label on it when you find it.

Aurelius is correct, the UBWS/Wolf Slayer dagger is from a different quest in the Compassion chain.
"Someone's Dagger" is the one that is for the quest "In the Belly of the Beast".

For the second room, I forgot to mention the reason why you want to use a horse (or use the context menu to get the pet to follow you) - Because you don't want to use "All follow me" and have the 1st horse accidentally move closer to the walls and get hit by the Crystal Daemons.

I mentioned a few things you can get from the crystal serpents, but some of you might have noticed that I did not expand on the hides and the icy heart.

1) The icy heart is simply for the quest "Heart of Ice" for getting a crafter bag/totems/recipes. Might as well make full use of your time while farming for the keys eh?

2) For the hides, there's a trick that will allow you to send a stack of hides, no matter how large a pile, to the bank. If you do not know how to do this, ask around in-game, esp the old timers. I won't post it or answer PMs regarding this :D The fun is trying to find out little easter eggs like these!

and i have never done the crystal hydras, so i know i didnt get them from there.
