NPC Prices.

I've been wondering about the prices with the ingame non faction NPCs, I know how the timer for the prices with 20 items on an NPC is set more or less but what about items that are sold in 500s? I mean the prices go up every time u make a purchase and I was curious as to how long it takes for them to go back down to their original default prices? For example, I buy apples at 3gp (which I think is the default price) that are sold in 500s and after buying 1000 apples, the price goes up to 4gp each and so on ... so how long does it take for the price to go back to 3gp?

I think I might've heard u have to sell back the same item back to the NPC to pull down the price maybe? but I was wondering if there is another way like waiting for its timer or there is any? or if anyone knows?

Thanks.

They restart after servers go down each night. the prices will then reset and the items will go back down to 20. The price will not reset and allow you to keep buying stacks of 500 at 3gp. Hope this helps.

Hmm ... strange but the prices on my shard don't seem to go down after server down, oh and I didn't mean the prices for items that were originally 20 in stock, I meant the other items that start selling at 500 in stock. Items in 20s don't go up in price just amount while items in 500s only go up in price which I wanna know how to get the price back down again?

The price should drop by one after someone sold 1000 items of that type to that NPC.
Those prices dont reset normally. Only after a new publish went active the prices start at the default price. On the other hand you can get most of the items, that are sold in 500-quatitys by other ways. If you cannot find an npc selling apples at 3 gp you could go for peaches. (They work the same for feeding pets.) One of the very few things, that are only sold by a small number of NPCs are lobster traps. (Where you have to deal with the problem, that prices are only raising and theres no other way to get traps than buying.)
Additionally you have some wandering gypsy camps in Illshenar. Those reset the prices every time they move. Not every of those camp has the same NPCs but chances are high to find what you are looking for in 2 or 3 camps. (Bulk gems for imbuing training is a good example for what youc an buy there 'cheap'.)

Items that starts at 20 will restock every 20-60 minutes and at restock if the amount is 0 they double the quantity (20 40 80 160 320 640 999). The price is always the same for that items.
The items that starts at 500 is restocked instantly and the price will grow by 1 every 1000 sold. As silverbid said the price goes down every 1000 items bought from a player.

Ahh thanks guys, thanks Silverbird, least I know now :D
You can make good money buying cheap from the gypsies and selling for profit in Luna and New Haven, especially if you've worked up the honesty virtue. You'll be helping newbies out too if you bring the New Haven prices back down.

I sometimes sell a couple thousand of something to the NPCs in Luna, as they will often buy for more than any readily available player.

1. as others noted, you can use the price changes to your advantage.
IIRC, the current incarnation of the buyback is that the NPC pays 3 gold for every 4 it charges. So, if the NPC is selling something for 24, it will be buying at 18, so if you can buy it elsewhere for 8 you can make a 10k profit. Each 1000 bought/sold modifies the selling price by 1.

2. It may be weeks or months before NPCs get reset; note that each shop might have multiple sets of NPCs (I have seen the NPCs change name & sex, but with little change). However, if an NPC gets reset by an event (or killed by a monster, like the ophidian berzerkers of years gone by) it will go back to default. If shopkeepers who sell these sort of items can be turned into rioters or protesters (especially rioters), this should reset them when they respawn back at their shop as yellow NPCs.

3. Ilshenar has about 10 spots with random spawn/despawn "traveling gypsy camps", less than half of which are active at any given time. The Iron Worker is a smith (and, as I hinted a month or two ago, do bod bribes), the Vagabond is a combination Tinker/Jeweler, and the Maiden is a provisioner (and perhaps other things). However, those 3 NPCs aren't guaranteed to be at any given camp - the only mandatory ones are the Banker and Fortune Teller (healer/mage), and the other are as likely to all be present as none of them to be there. Most camps should have at least one of them.
