Please can you help, can't use keyboard and play at the same time.

Has anyone else encountered the same problem, once the game is running my key presses no longer register. This has stopped me from using UOAssist in CC and using ventrilo to communicate with my fellow adventurers, talk about being hamstrung. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you may have to run the programs as administrator, a few people were talking about ventrilo not working, I'm not so sure about the keyboard problem though.

narrow down the issue so just run uo by itself and try keyboard
then try adding items 1 at time.
if it starts on 1 program then try it with all other programs without that 1
now you should at least know which program is conflicting

also if you can try other programs and see if they have the same error

Looks like UO's the culprit.... now what?

All I use is the classic client with UOA, seemed to work OK two nights ago post patch but it failed when I turned on yesterday the day after. I'm starting to get withdrawel shakes. Tried rebooting, reloading UOA, reloading keyboard driver, so far no joy.

Yes, UO Stygian Abyss Client.exe followed by ventrilo. If I click on the UO screen the keys don't work, when I click elsewhere, bingo, keys work again. It's a bit wierd, not seen this before. I'm no computer tech just a user so looks like I'm going to have to carry on asking around, many thanks for your input so far, everythings worth a try.

In your document folder, try rename the folder 'EA Games' to something else ie 'EA Games Backup'. - This is where your cfg files, desktop files etc are.
Next time u start UO, it will create new desktops, macros etc... see if that is the problem - that there is a corrupt cfg file or something. If not, its the game in itself.

What type of Keyboard? Some have software that also has to be installed and running (logitech for one). Maybe running that software as administrator?

Sorry it's taken so long to get round to this, only just found out how to do it. Next step was to re-install Ventrilo but (right click icon) run as administrator seems to have done the trick. Many thanks for all of your time and attention. All set now for our weekly trip out tomorrow, cheers.

Dont feel bad kiddo, many dont know what they are running in. We forget some of the players are not totaly computer savy. Remember all who reply to questions on such things that the person on the asking end just might only know how to turn it on .... not everyone was born with a mouse in their paws.

not sure why you keep saying it was uo only (implying that you were running uo by itself) and again here you say your running ventrilo. that was my initial post was to see if running uo by itself it works but when you add another program it then starts failing. in this case it was ventrilo.

always when troubleshooting you want to try to isolate where the issue is first.
