DEVs: Character Sheet - Dream a Dream

Dare I dream??

I know you are doing very little development on the 2D client and focusing on 3d - but honestly - could it be that hard to expand the character sheet to look more like this? It would make suit building SO much easier.

And of course - adding in a few other things here like Casting Focus, Eaters, etc would be helpful given all the new armor props.

That looks like something Pico could probably whip up real quick in the EC..

Well actually, I can't say that for certainty. I don't know how flexible the LUA implementation is for pulling that sort of information.

Seriously.. Ask Pico. He'd know.

That would actually make me play the EC if something like this were included.

actually the character sheet in my UI contains all the characters info that you might need and most of the stats can be drag in an hotbar where you want.
The swing speed is in the buff always visible, and the bandage time is also a buff when you heal...

Sorry Pinco.. Didn't mean to call you "Pico". :)

I think Theo is looking for a unified screen, not needing to drag items to hot bars and whatnot. Can you pull those numbers in code on a custom screen?

since you can scale hotbars and drag it where you want I don't see the point of making another unified screen since the character sheet IS the current unified screen :D

Show them a pic of it Pinco!

All the chatacter info IS on one screen. Some of it is 'tabbed' through, since its ALL the info you could ever want about your character, armor, loyalty, etc.

Pinco's Character sheet is great.

All of the information you seek IS in the Enhanced client w/Pinco's UI--all on one "page" like you show in your image (although not as pretty--nice job).

All the eater qualities, shame points, resists, casting properties (as well as caps), fame and karma totals, shame-loot property totals, city loyalties, combat modifiers, etc, etc.--if it can be a property on gear, or a numeric value that is applied to your character, Pinco has included it. In fact, there is so much of that data included in the Character Sheet, he had to add multiple, categorized, scrolling "tabs" just to see it all--there is far more information at your fingertips then what is included in your image.

He also includes a ton of buff icons (on the "buff bars") that appear to indicate when changes are made to the values in the character sheet--priceless.

Fine but if we do this could tamers please please and PUH LEAZE have an updated gump that shows all available skills as well as base and tasty treats stats and resists with a timer for the buff? Its really the extra skill info I am looking for. Pinco has nice sheets for the pets as well. :)

With the Third Dawn Texture Pack it comes pretty close to the pictured image. Unfortunately, I cannot pull or find the lowercase font used though I would like to as it is an original Third Dawn client font, used for mobile health bars mainly and a few other things afterwards.

(Rest of the post for the thread in general)

However Pinco's UI version DOES give almost every possible character stat/info tidbit. The bottom section of the window cycles through 11 tabs:
Resists
Attack (includes the newer item mods not in the Default window)
Defense (with new mods not in default)
Magic
Hit Spell Effects
Leech Effects
Damage Eaters
Resonances
Loyalty Ratings (Gargoyle Queen, Meer, Juka, Ophidian, Bane Chosen)
City Loyalty
Dungeon Crystal Points

If I had access to that one font, and a good chunk of time, I could get it looking in the EC fairly close to the one in the OP though with more functionality thanks to the EC and Pinco.

I certainly agree with the OP that an enhanced 2D Status indicator could be had, less graphics, more data. I'd use Both, health bars and Status. Problem is 2D , running on 'old machines' as a claim to fame item, means there may be a lot of folks playing on 4:3 monitors, of various sizes and resolution, a large data sheet could be half their play screen. Plus there's the readability thing, I already use Clear Type to freshen fonts up, if it's too small, it'll be hard to read for some and rain on their playing enjoyment.

Well, the problem is that you have two conflicting issues (regardless of client, system, monitor, or resolution) and that's:

1. An ever increasing amount of character information
vs
2. the desire for a compact presentation of said data.

Within the EC, I'd be able to play around with that window and maybe resize/reposition the various elements as shown in the OP, or Pinco may be able to take the LUA code to auto-resize the window based on the visible tab (right now, it's hard-set to the longest list of the various tab which is the Attack tab), but even with doing that, there's still so much data to provide that you have to come up with various tricks to make the two opposing forces work together.

Right now, in the EC, you have the basic character data (the top 2/3rds of the window) and then the Equipment data in the tabbed window in the bottom 1/3rd. If you took all 11 tabs and showed the whole thing as a single window, it'd take up the entire screen even for HD resolution monitors, thus why it is grouped into tabs.

Another possibility for the display of the Character Sheet would be collapsible sections with a + and - button to expand and collapse each section so that you could focus on certain portions of the Character Sheet basically the way the 2d Skill Scroll gump does it or at least DID it, I haven't logged into 2d in so long I'm honestly not sure if they've changed that or not, but take that concept to the window itself.

In regards to the OP's layout, you'd have the Basic Data over on the left and the Equipment Data on the right and could make each section collapsible using the same groupings found in Pinco's version.

Anyway, this is me just brainstorming the concepts behind the idea (client neutral although I'd only be able to work the idea in the EC).

Frankly, the LACK of an expanded character sheet in 2d is an issue that SHOULD be resolved and should have been as part of the AOS expansion. It's also the reason I saw that a previous attempt to rebalance item mods about 6 years ago (Diminishing Returns vs Proficiencies for those that remember) ended up being doomed to failure.

Edit to Add: I kind of wish we had a vocal dev that was focused on the UI aspect of the game to bounce stuff like this off of (again regardless of client).

"Unfortunately, I cannot pull or find the lowercase font used though I would like to as it is an original Third Dawn client font,..."

To be honest, I wish ALL the fonts in the EC were switchable to the same font you have at the top of your image, Dermott--what Pinco calls "Ultima Classic" font (It is available for chat and overhead text, where it is most important). That font and the legacy backpack/container styles are, more so then anything else, what bring the Enhanced Client back to "feeling" more like the Classic Client. Unfortunately, there are many places in both the UI and the game window that cannot be switched to this same font. I find it very annoying when there are 5 different fonts on the screen.

The old style "stone work" frame borders being worked back into the EC would be nice, but they are a bit bulky.

Personally, making the EC "feel" like the Classic Client was my first priority when I switched over, but I am inclined to venture that adding all of this (expanded UI) to the Classic Client, without LUA being available to do so, is not going to happen unless the Devs do so--something I highly doubt they have time to do considering they are focusing on the EC.

On the other hand, it would be much easier to alter the Enhanced Client to look and feel more like the Classic Client, at least as far as the UI is concerned. Perhaps Pinco could put together an alternative default UI profile that focuses on doing exactly that--recreating the "feel" of the Classic Client, visually speaking. I imagine it would also make the transition from the Classic Client to the Enhanced client a little easier for some.

Old monitors aside, it just needs to be a gump-style screen to view in 2D. If you don't have room on your monitor then you close it after checking your values.

No reason why this should not already be in place currently. This has been needed since AoS. It needs to be made for the 2D client which needs to be decomissioned and closed.

Well you can thank Zym Dragon as he rebuilt the font from scratch that it exists at all. There IS a version online, but it is poorly done in comparison.

You can also set much of the UI's font to the Classic font, but it has to be done "hardcoded" in the XML files. I have done this for my Third Dawn Theme for Pinco's UI.

The project to make a "Classic UO" UI started with the KR client and was a project by Zym Dragon. When EC was released, he did a newer version that was up on the old Exchange site. I didn't want to "step on his toes" so to speak, so I opted to work on a Third Dawn based UI. For those that used that client, they'll remember the expandable containers, I somewhat recreated these by making the grid view "gridless". This gives the look of the free-form expandable containers but keeps the functionality of the grid view. I also added in many of the aspects of the old Third Dawn UI by going through the Inside UO files and pulling the pieces that I needed and building it accordingly. It has changed a bit due to changes in Pinco's UI to remain compatible, but as far as I know it's the current "best shot" as a more classic UO looking UI. I even went as far as to put the "docking points" on each hotbar icon to make them look and feel like the icons did in the 3d client.

Even if the CC or EC had the perfect character status gump I'd still use a spreadsheet to figure out totals. Otherwise you'd waste time guessing in-game and you'd still have to calculate on your own due to caps.

The mannequins were a happy-medium over the interim.
