Tents would be cool!

Living on a foreign shard (not the one with the house) is always a pain, because you have no way to safely transfer something from one char to another. So what about tents?

Here's how this could work:

Every account can place a single tent per shard.
Tents decay and fall after a set amount of days, i.e. 14 days.
Tents come with a built in secure chest, which can be accessed from every char on this account.
Opening the secure chest refreshes the tent and sets the decay timer back to it's maximum.

This would be a huge improvement IMHO.

every couple months i bring it up.
i slip it into threads where i can.

Yes. I've made the suggestion a time or two in a couple of threads. Temporary housing that would have to be refreshed, and could easily be packed up and moved to another location as needed. :)

agreed. Even if the old tent graphics/system wouldnt work, perhaps make a new set of 4x4 5x5 6x6 custom plots that would be placeable as a Secondary home that would decay if not refreshed every few weeks or so.


Or even better could be a Safe Deposit box at the bank that you could store items in that would be accessible from other characters on the account?

Tents should be part of camping. Camping should be merged with tracking, and called Survival or Wild Lore or something. Add the ability to forage for plants.

Presto, a skill that lets you make temporary bases in the wilderness, track people and monsters, and find regs, food and other handy items around the forest, and you have a skill people might enjoy playing with that seems worth an investment in points.

Used to be able to stable pack animals with goods on them. Tweek it so they charge for real by week and based off the weight / number of items on the animal.

Found the bank box enough for other shards. Playing another shard is like playing on TC. Waste of my main shards time.

Really if desire to play another shard is that great open another account or build a house there. Only reason in the past I desired to play another shard was to abuse the dead shard champ hunting. Others would be BOD hoarding that is pointless now.

Old ideal of mine. Paste the gypsy wagon art over the boat graphics. Then land lock it. Same commands or now have a DCed item on the wagon and steering like a boat wheel. With the decay of the rowboat would stay away from pasting over it. No entering towns or dungeons. Blocking movement or house placement is easy GM burning.

I really like this idea.

I think they'd be good for Siege... might possibly bring in a few more players wanting to try it out but not yet willing to invest in an additional account to do so.

Placement would be a crucial issue. There could be potential for griefing if they could be placed too close to existing houses. I love the idea of a tent or gypsy wagon, but I wouldn't appreciate other players plunking them down in what I consider to be my front yard. :)

Well, the whole idea behind this is to have a safe spot for all my chars on a shard, where I don't/can't own a house.
A spot where I can transfer items and log out safely. I don't need any lockdowns or likeweise. Just one built-in secure chest would already do. Way better than living out of a bank box and transfer items by dropping them on the ground in an inn.

Linking it to a skill is basically not a bad idea, but it's a bit limiting, when one or all my chars need lots of points spent in camping.

Overall, tents as temporary housing is a good idea, in my opinion.

As for my opinion that placement should have reasonably strict limitations, I base that on the fact that if there is potential for griefing, someone will inevitably do it. :)

If tents were allowed, I agree they should be limited to one per shard. However, I disagree with your contention that they should not be permitted to be used on a shard where one already owns a house. Not everyone wants to play on other shards, but many may wish to temporarily house one of their characters apart from the others.
