Please don't Nerf green thorns

I noticed that green thorns will now be useless in T2A anywhere near champ spawns.

I saw that a couple of people posted their support for this change, but I would like to make a case for keeping green thorns exactly the way they are.

First, there are only two -possibly three locations where this would affect champ spawns. They are Desert, just north of Papua in the desert, City of Dead, and possibly Terra Sanctum on the sandy beach. (Not sure if the sandy beach is close enough to the alter to be affected, but it probably is)


Really? Green thorns have brought the mighty power scroll guardians to their knees, begging for mercy.

Three locations? What about the rest of the alters? 1. Damwin? 2. Fire dungeon? 3. Despise? 4. Destard? 5. Hoppers Bog? 6. Ice? 7. Khaldun? 8. Marble? 9. Oaks? 10. Tortoise? 11. Oasis? 11. Deceit? 12. Terathan Keep?

There are twelve other champ spawn locations where green thorns cannot be used! Twelve!

Please do not alter the green thorn the way it was intended. Surely the pvp community can deal with green thorns as they have over the last decade. If not they can go to twelve other places to do a champ spawn!

Please preserve the green thorn the way it was intended to be.

When you place a green thorn in the sandy ground it opens a hole to the solen hive. If you enter the hole you can then exit the solen hive and you will appear at one of the solen entrances on the main continent.

You can use a green thorn to exit T2A.


No offense intended to the person asking the question, but this question serves to illustrate the point that green thorns are not a real problem. Most people either don't know or have forgotten what they do.

This was how green thorns were intended!

Green thorns were intended to work this way. It is not a bug or an exploit.

Green thorns may indeed be intended to work this way, however, it was never intended that you should be able to EXIT T2A this way.

There are specific ways into and out of T2A for a reason.

Green thorns were intended to get you into the secret solen hive. When planted in sand, that is part of the naturalist seed quest. Not to be used to get out of T2A. Altho it seems to be handy used that way. Sounds like they are getting around to fixing something. Granted years after the fact....heh..........

LMAO you know full well that they are indeed working like they are supposed to to get the Rare Seeds, :stir: But they were NEVER intended to be used as an escape route from Spawn areas:party:

Its like the boat in the water in the oasis spawn, should not be allowed to sit there:arr:

The lost lands are part of the Felucca facet. The solen hive exists on the felucca facet. Green thorns were designed to access the solen hive from sandy areas in the respective facets.

Would you like to turn off the vorpal bunny summon effect near champ spawns too, or would that be too difficult still?

Look it up smart guy. If you can't handle fel you can always do spawns in Ilshenar.

As I stated above, this was intended. NOT a bug.

Go back and look it up in the archives and prove me wrong.

By the way, your comparison of parking a boat doesn't float. A green thorn is planted and the hole disappears in about 30 seconds. It does not interfere with anyone or anything Your parked boat does-AND ANYONE CAN USE THE HOLE ONCE IT IS OPENED, BUT NOT YOUR BOAT.

You suck at analogies.

UO has a very unique flavor, and all of this "ironing out the wrinkles" is definitely taking away from it >:p The quirks of this game very much add to the experience, and "fixing" things like this are taking away from the very elements that set it apart from other mmorpgs on the market :p

So yeah, I vote that UO stop WAISTING THEIR TIME fixing that which isn't broken, leave the unique lil things about this game alone, and fix that which really needs fixing!!! :p:p:p:p:p

This is not a nerf, it's an exploit fix. Green thorns will still work exactly as intended on any other patch of sand to reach the 5th nest. There is absolutely no reason to take green thorns to a champ spawn.

So what! Yes the Lost Lands are part of the Felucca facet. They were also designed with very specific ways to get in and get out. Every exploit or bug previously found, that allowed you to exit T2A by any other means, has been fixed. Recalling to boat keys, Bracelets of Binding, etc. etc.

Had the developers at the time cared or been diligent enough to test, then the green thorns would never have been allowed to be used to exit T2A. Major huge oversight and a stupid long time to fix it.



You suck at analogies.
So you suck at understanding the game mechanics of Fel T2A.

Little 'kinks in the game' is another word for cheating.

I used to love duping gold, it was a shame when that kink was ironed out.

Sorry, but while I agree with others that the green thorn probably wasn't intended as an exit from T2A, I also call balogna on EA fixing it.

First: The green thorn "exit" from T2A isn't exactly what one could call "convenient." Let's analyze this. First, it takes a few moments for the hole to appear. If you're involved in PvP, waiting for the magical hole to appear isn't exactly going to be a saving grace. Second, unless something changed, someone can follow you down the hole. I know in the past I've click on a hole someone else created and was taken in... can't speak to it being true today, but that seems like the easier, more appropriate, ala gate fix. Third, let's keep in mind that no matter the facet, you can't recall out of the Solen hives. So you'd have to go for a run before you could escape. If you're truly active in Felucca, you already completed the quest to make the Solen of Felucca your friend (hell, even I did), so it's not like there's a mob issue.

Second, and more importantly: For god's sake, this "exploit" has existed since the day gardening went live. Now, I can't say as I've ever used it for this purpose. Hell, never even considered it before this day. But... to be blunt, BULL**** that it was an exploit for what seven, eight, nine years? I mean, who the hell even remembers gardening coming out in the first place.

Knee-jerk fixes seven to ten years later are exactly what this game DOES NOT NEED. Open the hole so anyone can go through if currently it works otherwise. Hell, extend the time the hole exists. Fix the "exploit" in a natural way.

But seriously? Way to go as usual. Fix a hole in a wall with a bulldozer and a brand new wall instead of a little bit of spackle. Yippee, EA. Great. Job. As. Usual. *waves pompoms in the air to fit in*

Note also that we are talking about three possible champ spawn locations. the other TWELVE don't have any sand to put a green thorn in.

The way these people are whining about it you would think that everyone out in pvp land was running around with a sack full of green thorns.

It's laughable.

You are correct, once the hole is created anyone can go in it and chase down whoever made it. It does not compare in the least to bracelets of binding or boat key recall -both of which were available to only the person with the bracelet or key.

Ok wise guy this is WHY it is being fixed ...

First of you are again correct they are working as intended to get at the 5th solen hive, in any sand area.

Problem is let say you are in Oasis doing a spawn, you finish it and have a char grab all your spoils, now you have a few choices - run out thru the desert and chance that the few choke points are not being watched, or maybe just run thru the alter and hope the star room is clear. But wait lets just run out west a bit and drop a thorn, jump in the hole, from which i can recall out of once in the area. True the hole is available while its open but once its gone you are free.

This is the exploit and you KNOW it so please stop trying to call it a nerf or validate your reasoning you are WRONG.

No one is taking away your ability to use the green thorns to get to the 5th hive just escape from a champ spawn area with ALOT less risk.

any reply to this is a waste of your time and effort and this thread should be locked for lack of ??
