Customizing a house question

Hi all,

I have built 2 houses, but it's been quite a few years since then. What I'm wondering is this:

I have the plot but never actually built walls or anything, so it's just the default flat floor... I have secured a dozen or so chests (filled with stuff) and have a few pieces of furniture locked down.

If I now choose to customize, what happens to all the stuff that's already locked down? Does it all get moved to a moving crate so I have to place it again or what?

Sorry for the really basic silly question, but I've looked here (Stratics), on the Wiki and on the main UO site and couldn't find the answer....

As long as you don't place any walls, stairs or similar on the same tiles that your stuff is locked down on, then it should remain exactly where it is.

If however, you do place walls etc on the same tiles, your stuff will get moved into the packing crate :)

Flooring tiles won't affect the locked down objects.

Excellent... what about Fireplaces, Mannequins, etc?

My fireplace usually stays up during customization as long as I don't place any walls where it sits... Mannequins frustratingly get booted to the crate everytime, as does everything they were wearing when you started customizing.

I don't use a lot of deeded items in my house, but I know things like forges, anvils and such tend to remain where you place them similar to the fireplace.

Gozas, like the mannequins, always get booted to the crate.

Some items though, like curtains and holiday trees, can stay up during customization as long as you remember to lock down each individual part before you start to customize. (With the exception of the ornaments on the decorated version of the trees.)

PS: Bulletin Boards also get sent to the crate everytime you customize :)

Take it from a pro builder... that’s just, in fact tonight, come off working on an 18x18 for the last 6 hours. lol

If you really want a fresh start at a house, box up everything you can... and then build a temp wall in the place of the containers. Everything will go into the moving crate, like the old days, remove the wall... then you will be free to place all your stuff wherever you like. It's a lot easier then packies and no limit to weight.

Second... deeded items, just axe them as well... makes it easier. I like to keep all deeded items in a bag so they are easier to find and don’t get lost in the moving crate.

Gazas only get crated if there is something else in the way... like a wall... or you are using them for a little creative trick or something like that. hehe

Also... always check all doors before setting up anything. Sometimes passageways just don’t work, despite the fact they should in logic.

And I also can't stress enough to always look for any corner pieces that may get forgotten about... details that you think will be overlooked. We always see them when passing by. ;) hehe

Good suggestions, Pixie... thank you.
