so lets here it people.
UO rocks because it is the one that started it all.
it's an MMO so I can play with real people and not just my
imaginary friends...
skyrim is cool and all ; But it's still not UO.

the only good thing of skyrim is the graphic, for the rest has LOTS of problems for example:

- no macro (for a mage is a hell)
- you can reach up to 2 full skills (with all perks)
- it's always the same thing: draugr, bandit, falmer, troll, wolf or bear.
- you can finish the whole game in 35-40 hours.

UO is the opposite, medium-low level graphic but great contents, also you need MUCH more than 40 hours to try it all :D

gaints, dragons, liches, so many more.

Houses, not custom but neither was UO when new.

you can drop items on the ground.

more skill based than level based.

Skyrim has flaws but it does so much right, if fact, the elder scroll has more in common with UO than most would think, if and we know they wont, Elders Scrolls MMO came out, that it would be as close to a UO2 that we will ever get.

Oh and UO has reasons but good graphics are important, immersion is a big key to modern game esp a rpg.

Anyway you can't
compare the two of them as on is a 250 plus million dollar single player rpg, that has way more than 40 something hours in it :p, and UO is what about 250k production :p from the golden days when Diablo looked good Wizardry 8 was cutting edge.

Yes Uo is best mmo but if You want to enjoy Skytim because of the good grafics you can play it 300 houers.Im rght now ar 135 houers and didnt made
the main quest and still enjoy Skyrim because at 135 houers of gameplay im only 52 percentage done with quest and exploring of Skyrim.
If You kill Alduin the super dragon in Skyrim there is still the second main quest of the war of the kings. And if You done this too i read You can join the brothergood of assasins to play further. Then i read you can join
the brother good of assasins to play
i think like assasin creed..Right now i didnt made the 2 main quest to kill Alduin and to do the kings war and im still exploring and questing, grinding and still leveling up my char.
But Skyrim is fun i saved up and tray to kill guards in a main city,After i killed 25 guards in a row my skills vent up fast.It was funny. After that i loaded the old save up to play with no minus faction. But if you play like me 135 houers its fun to know you can kill all guards in a city.If im done one day with Skyrim
i will not delete it from my pc and will wait of a expansion.I played 7 years uo now and i will rest uo for a while till i play Skyrim.Skyrim makes me adicted.
But uo i will ever play.
And there is no place for uo2.Because as Everquest 2 came out it destroys Everquest 1 and now they are going to make Everquest naechst that means Everquest 3.But Everquest 1 still has enough player.

The main difference between Skyrim and UO: One is Single player RPG and the other is MMO. Can't compare two different game genres, really.

UO is after what, forever now, still fun to play. The history behind UO with all the events, content, mob/loot varieties etc is epic.

Skyrim is limited cause it's new and single player rpg. Most game crittics gave Skyrim 10/10 and if they didn't it was marked down only for the reason the OP stated, can't bring a friend in.

I'm all about UO2. Keeping UO (original) around forever more.. will complicate that.

I just want Skyrim graphics in my UO2.

You dont need uo 2.
Ea can make a new client like skyrim for uo and you can summon in and out of your character so you can play 2D or real 3D.
After they made such a grafics for uo EA has to put uo new to all gaming shops of the world and start ot make advertisemnt like the award winner uo
as longest playing online game has his new doors open.
Thats all.

Have you played the elder scrolls series I wonder? It is impossible to compare simply because the elder scrolls games end, but I think the experience is much more gratifying, but that's just how it goes, single player games are better equipped to provide a directed experience.

If they're going to make a new client that looks like Skyrim they would be better off just making an entirely new game like UO 2. Why bother making a beautiful looking client just to give it to an outdated game?

Wow. You cant compare the two.

UO is a MMO.

Skyrim is a single player game.

UO has no ending.

Skyrim does have an ending

You cant win UO.

You can win Skyrim.

ect ect ect.....

Really dont understand why players feel they have to compare UO to every other game out there. Meaning any online game or console game. Now if it was certain features and graphics is one thing but just to compare is nuts.

Just like how players compare WoW and UO. They are not the same and UO 2d graphics win hands down compared to WoW imo :) Not a fair fight at all. Content and PvP in WoW beats UO. Well most pvp in any games beats UO atm besides Warhammer Online.

So I even was making remarks comparing games to UO but each has their own identity and they are not UO or close to UO. Same as UO is not them. UO is UO, Skyrim is Skyrim, WoW is Wow, ect ect ect.

Now of Skyrim went mutiplayer as a mmo then this thread would be a different story.

maybe because they need justification for all there time spent in UO?

if a comparison was to be done solely on graphics, immersion, storyline.etc:

i vote skyrim
no whiners and complainers in general chat
no lagged out pointless EM events
mods, cheats, etc are freely discussed without "those who think they know better" hovering over.
the npcs are sooooooo much more interactive and reliable. ill take any of there followers over a potential UO hunting partner).
you dont need a spreadsheet and a calculator to figure out your armor and weapons.
the storyline(s) are waaaaaay better.
paid a one time price for skyrim, UO is a money pit for the content we get
skyrims forums and more about the game and not full of drama
skyrims in game drama is about skyrim, not injected from some random player who decides to bring their bad day to the game.
skyrim has no so called "rares community"
skyrim has actual stealing
skyrim has house whose neighbors dont try to build a gaudy decor nightmare next to you
skyrim has stocked vendors
skyrim doesnt have neon colors
skyrim may have less monsters, but they dont have 5 figure hp's
skyrim has bugs that you fix can yourself.
skyrim has better customer support
just my opinion

so as you can see sure they can be compared, but its irrellevant

UO isnt outdated , graphics are.
Yes, it is. The game is dwindling because its been around so long. If they were to put so much money into creating an absoutely wonderful looking client to rival wow it would be much better if they were to simply go a little further and restructure the game itself too into UO 2. Would be much easier to advertise a NEW game to get a lot of players as opposed to the same old one with just great graphics.

I prefer Dark Souls to both :lick: It has some unique online features that allow for PvP and "jolly co-operation" that almost provide that MMO feel. Only bummer is it's a console exclusive, so PC gamers won't get to check it out :( But it is a very fun game.

Skyrim feels much more alive.
When you approach a deer or a rabbit, and it notices you, it bolts.
When you approach a bear, it roars at you, and doesn't attack unless you get closer.
The guards patrol.
The NPCs go about their lives.
The monsters try and flank you, and things like that.

In UO, everythings acts completely oblivious to its surroundings.

They are already doing this, it's called Kingdom of Amalur and the single player game comes out in a few months, and if it does as well as expected, EA will sign a deal with them for a full MMORPG. It's got Todd McFarlane doing the art, and R.A. Salvatore doing the history/backstory. EA's not going to dump AAA money into UO when they've got that publish deal going on, and when they've got a new Dragon Age in the works.

Uo is not Outdated, It has a fully functioning web site , maybe you need its URL??

Do you mean that for example Age of Connan has a better web site?

Why? because it has better graphics?, AoC web site sux more than UO web site.

Btw I dont see any Moron around or....?

You are wrong. UO's website is full of outdated information.

This isn't even a graphics issue (which is indeed an issue, but I digress).

UO even lacks something most pretty much every other online game has, no matter how small or large the online... an actual forum hosted by the company that runs it.

For 1997, UO was stellar.

It currently is run by a skeleton crew that do the best they can with band aids.

Though, as other posters have commented, you can't necessarily compare an online with a single player game. So this thread just seems somewhat odd. Though if you insist on running a comparison, Cirno's post summed it up rather well.

And please, don't resort to calling other morons. It's tacky.

LOL are you kidding me!? Uoguide and stratics are both 10x more useful than anything on UO.com. I don't think mysticism, throwing, or imbuing are even listed on UO.com. I mean jesus christ have you not noticed the numerous threads asking how throwing works/how throwing+parry works? Why are there all these threads... BECAUSE UO HASN'T UPDATED THEIR WEBSITE IN YEARS.

P.S.: Just checked UO.com, they do have SA info up but no High Seas. But still nothing as useful as what can be found on uoguide or here. Further the only artifacts listed are doom artifacts, from like 6 years ago, MyUO doesn't work at all, the UO store is useless as is the support set up. Way to go UO.

Comparing apples and oranges, IMHO.
Truthfully, it depends on the criteria. Both are sweet, but the apple is mild and the orange more tart. I totally like oranges better :p.

Haha, I probably won't get Skyrim because I don't really care for first person games too much, which is another reason why comparing UO to Skyrim doesn't make sense.

A good reason. However it should be pointed out that in Skyrim you can toggle between first and third person. It doesn't force you to pick either one. So if you prefer third person so it shall be in Skyrim.

TES Series was actually heavily influenced by Ultima and Ultima Online. Todd Howard even said so during one of the Skyrim Previews.
Anyways, Skyrim is an awesome single player RPG (Just like all the TES games), and it doesn't actually "end" like some people are saying. Once you beat the main story in the game, you can still wander around and do **** on the same char/save.
TES V: Skyrim has already won GotY, like how TES IV: Oblivion and TES III: Morrowind won GotY. Bethesda has a solid track record of creating phenominal games. Believe me, i know. Been playing TES series since TES II: Daggerfall came out. Back in them days, almost noone knew what TES was. It didn't really become famous until TES III: Morrowind, and it became legendary with TES IV: Oblivion. With TES V: Skyrim, there's not a single gamer that doesn't know about TES series. It's as if we have a bunch of Greybeards in RL who sit atop Mount Everest or something, and when Skyrim was announced, they shouted "THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM!" which the shout then bounced across the skies and heavens until every gamer in the world hence forth knew of it's coming.

If you push in Skyrim the F key you soom out of your character as far as you want and are not in first person vew.So on that way you can see
your back if enemies attack your back.
Im now at 155 houers in Skyrim and i have to say i like both uo and skyrim.
What i like in skyrim that you can be evel if you want.I saved my game and trayed something out.I killed in a row 25 guards in a city in skyrim the fight was 20 minutes and i used healing potions for 5000 gold that was fun.
After that i loaded my old game up because i dont want to be kill on sight in a city but it was fun.At that point my character was at the same time surounded by 25 guards and i won. That was toughfer then named npcs and dungeons in the quests so far.

Well, I think it goes back to Might and Magic because their NPCs were so seeminly real. If you played now, it wouldn't seem that way.

To me, you should not be able to tell the difference between an Online game and a Single Player game.

NPCs are very important for that, the way they dress, the way they act and live their daily lives.

If The NPC can look or act in a certain way and the player can also do the same, then it becomes very difficult to tell if it's multi-player or not.

Also, if an NPC can work as a Smith or a Tailor or an Alchemist and a player can do the same, then it becomes almost impossible to tell who the real players are.

I believe Morrow Wind was able to get up to 30 or 60 players but had problems with the engine.

Another thing to consider is the fact that the players can build Mods that are similar to expansions. There was one that had pirate ships, where there was an island added and you went out and fought other ships and came back to the island.

There was also another Mod where alot of the code was rewritten because the guy thought the spawn was to predictable. It was very, very large and detailed. The way animals would act, I think some of the NPCs battles.

There was even a nice house that I downloaded into the game. It was a beautiful island with a very large home.

So, the player is able to add to the game, armour, weapons, even complete maps.

What makes UO better is that it's multi-player and the history, its' memories and its' vision of Chaos and Order along with Virtue.

But I tend to play other games. As soon as I can, i'm going to buy SKYRIM and play it. It's one of those games i'm hoping i'll be able to put on the computer and keep for years because of its' possibilities in character type and different paths, if its' anything like Morrow Wind.

UO needs, I think a way to program a questing system that is never the same. A type of language that rather than a single NPC, all NPCs would have, along with the Static Quests. I think that would help it compete with games like SKYRIM.

not at all, MM 6 and 7 or i should say 7 and 8 where same engine, but did not 5 and 6 go merge into one game, kinda odd idea, MM had the traditional crpg space dude fantasy world end game laser gun type stories.

Skyrim is its own entity, every game in the elder scrolls line feels almost nothing like the game before it, Might and Magic failed beacue the lack of engine updates.

MM3 was the bomb i thought. played all the heroes of M&M till the lastest as well.
