This morning I had the following conversation on icq (reproduced with permission)

(10:41:29 AM) name hidden: you there hun?
(10:41:44 AM) Petra Fyde: would you believe me if I said no? :D
(10:41:49 AM) name hidden: heheh
(10:41:54 AM) name hidden: not really :p
(10:42:11 AM) name hidden: there was a tutorial on shame dungeon on Stratics, I lost it and now I can't seem to find it
(10:42:20 AM) name hidden: got any clues?
(10:42:36 AM) Petra Fyde: Just type 'shame' in the search box at the top of the right side bar
(10:43:08 AM) name hidden: not saying anything
(10:43:15 AM) name hidden: embarrassing

We went to a lot of trouble to try to find a really good search engine for the site, looking at more than one Google-based script. The problem, according to my embarrassed friend, lies in the name 'Google'. Having 'Googled' from his browser's navigation toolbar he assumed Google could not find the item he needed.

The custom Google search we are using will search for terms only within the site and will return much more relevant results than the more general browser search engine. In fact the page he was seeking was the very first item listed in the search I advised him to undertake.
The moral of this tale is simple, to find items on Stratics, search the site, not the web.

If one wanted to search from the Google website, you would have to type the search like this:

Shame site:uo2.stratics.com

Fortunately, the "Search this site" box on the stratics main page does all that for you. It would be nice if more websites used that little feature.

No, actually. Please don't offer guesses as if they're facts.

Now if we could figure out a way merge vB's advanced search options with Google's far, far superior indexing and results . . .

vBulletin, why do you hate my results? ;_;

Always found the Google boxes on sites extremely useful... Almost as useful as spell check! Great info thank you!

That search bar doesn't seem to work very well for me..I get a list of addresses but when I select them, some of them only display a blank page (well blank where the information should be in the middle of the page).

It would be helpful to see a screenshot if it happens again, or at least the addresses of the links. If it's a link issue, we might be able to fix it.

Well it is all very weird! The problem is on my laptop using IE 9. ..the search seems to work fine when I use firefox (on the big 'puter)

Anyway I was trying to get a copy of the page to show you (cause I cant figure out how to do screen shots on the laptop duh!) so I saved the page to a file. But when I open up the saved file, all the information is there!!!

Maybe it is just another thing wrong with IE9?

Thanks! IE never seems to work anymore anyway..I can never click on links. I have to use the "open in a new tab" option.

At least I know your search works for me using Firefox. Might as well just switch to firefox on the laptop too!
