UO Stratics *New* | 14th Year Veteran Reward Transfer Shields
Many thanks to Mesanna.
You can always make a character on Siege thoughI'm assuming we can't transfer to Siege. Is this a correct assumption? Please say I'm wrong!
WoW. Very kewl. I may start playing again
A BIG Thank You Mesanna. Also, Thanks for fishin' up the info Petra
@ Jack - understandable just how bad many players would like these. I'm not offended by ur requestTBH I havent played UO in around 6 months yet still pay my bill so I dont loose my account status (I've taken many breaks over the years). That said, its nice those of us who've stuck by UO through it all are being rewarded w/ something other then pixel candy. An incentive to actually play UO again, the ability to try different shards, is just a really nice way to say "Thanks" to the few ancient accounts left.
Again, Thanks Mesanna and thanks to all those that made this happen![]()
I like this answer. "A or B?" - "yes"Q. Does the Shield have to be in a house or can it be used from the bank box?
A. Yes it does
I asked as many questions as I could think of, Mesanna kindly answered them. The shield is account bound, at no point does it become the property of anyone else. The owner of a house can re-deed anything in the house, always has been able to.
Since you obviously would have done a much better job of coming up with a comprehensive list of questions to ask, I'll be sure to contact you next time.
I ask her how things work.
They do disable all transfers to/from Origin when new releases are pushed there prior to being applied to the production shards, right? My son declaired the minute my account was of age he wanted 2 shields!
(he did say please... he knows I am a miser with my reward pts)
One on Origin the other on Atlantic.......
I do! And I ain't telling their names! You can always make a character on Siege thoughLike a character named Fred or Bob
so I guess no answer to my question yet ... (*insert pancakes here* hehe)
Hmmmm....wait is that the shard you all held the surprise b-day party for Petra on?I do! And I ain't telling their names!![]()
It's time to delete that forum anyway. Just another reminder of broken commitments.so I guess no answer to my question yet ... (*insert pancakes here* hehe)
Hehe. I been waiting almost a year on a question from the devs and never ever have I gotten a response.![]()
Popps, Publish 73 was released to all the other shards besides Origin 12 days ago. From Mesanna's answer that no pet can be carried along the Shard Shield transfer unless stabled, it clearly hints to me that this transfer is handled through a different code than the regular transfer tokens which, we all know, allow the carrying along of loaded pack animals as well as loaded riden blue beetles.
Now, and here comes my concern, "what if" parts of the transfer code are "shared" by the 2 different transfer ways and this might lead to loaded pack animals be deleted while transferring using the regular, traditional way because of unpredictable interactions among the 2 different transfer ways using some shared code ?
Better safe than sorry, right ? Wouldn't it be better to make sure before any player gets upset loosing their loaded pack animals or riden loded blue beetles while using a regular transfer token ?
I do not know others, but personally, I am concerned enough to prefer to wait using a regular transfer token along with loaded pack animals unless I hear more about it and I feel safe to use loaded pack animals with a regular transfer token after the publish that introduced Shard Shield transfer.....
I mean, if no parts of code are shared in any way by the 2 separate ways of transferring then I do not see how the regular transferring could get troubled because of a different transferring way with Shard Shields, but we do not know how they have been coded and whether there is any shared code between them.
Eight days ago, I made a character transfer between shards using a regular purchased transfer token and three loaded pack animals. I had no problems whatsoever with the pack animals showing up, or with the items in my character's backpack or bankbox showing up.
I tend to doubt that I'm the only person in the last twelve days who has successfully made a character transfer using a purchased transfer token and loaded pack animals.
But then again, who knows?
Yes, that is the one time the transfers of any kind dont work from or to Origin. They do disable all transfers to/from Origin when new releases are pushed there prior to being applied to the production shards, right?
Just and additional FYI, you cannot transfer between ANY shards with different versions. Not just Origin.Yes, that is the one time the transfers of any kind dont work from or to Origin. They do disable all transfers to/from Origin when new releases are pushed there prior to being applied to the production shards, right?
Most times they are short termed, unless you all miss stuff when testing on TC1.
I truly hate to appear ignorant, but I have a question or maybe two that I am not sure has been answered (at least to where I understand). I haven't really been following what the new vet rewards are until just recently and I want to be as informed as I can be before I choose them.My son declaired the minute my account was of age he wanted 2 shields!
(he did say please... he knows I am a miser with my reward pts)
One on Origin the other on Atlantic....... ok so I let him have the set and set up both for use.
They work great. I keep my 7th slot open on all shards 99% of the time so this made for easy transfer of a quirky 6th I have for moving things around easy. Now I do have max bank space which is 175, so my son was scared to try to move over the 125 limit of items in the bank but gave in and tried at my insistance to at least test this out. . . .
As an example. If you chose theChesapeake Shield, that shield would generate a transfer token to Chesapeake shard once per month.![]()
So you should NOT pick your home shard when you originally pick your token? You should pick the shard you wish to go to once a month? And I would add, forever as long as UO exists or this is changed.........
That is, a Veteran player who picks a Shard Shield representing Atlantic, and has it for, say, 3 years, will get 36 tokens all to the same Shard, Atlantic..............
I still think it would have been way, but way better to allow the Shard to be changed from one month to the other........
So you should NOT pick your home shard when you originally pick your token? You should pick the shard you wish to go to once a month?
Seems like it would be more helpful if you got a token each month to a different shard so you could explore each shard instead of the same one each month.
Considering what you have said and what else I have read, I doubt I will be wasting a 14 year vet reward on something that is so very limited and really not very useful. Thank you for taking the time to extensively explain it to me.As the Shard Shields currently work, regardless whether one picks one's own home shard or any other, the Shield will always crank out, 1 per month, account bound tokens to that shard, period.
So, unless a player has reasons to go to a given shard frequently, the Veteran Player will eventually end up with a large stock of unused account bound tokens all to that same one shard..........
As I said, I would have personally much more favoured the ability to change the represented Shard once per month thus allowing the same one Shield to still give 1 accout bound token per month, the limitation would all stay there, but at least allow variety of the shard that one could visit, once per month.
I mean, this Veteran Reward has lots of tough limitations like being account bound, not allowing to carry along loaded pack animals, to make available only 1 token per month, it requires a home where the Shield is locked down in order to produce 1 token per month.
That is pretty much heavy limitations, IMHO. I do not think that merely allowing the represented Shard to be changed from one month to the other, maintaining all of the other limitations, would have been a big deal at all.
Yet, it would have made this high end Veteran Reward more flexible and more enjoyable for players.
I still hope that the Developers might consider making such a change.
I think they designed it specifically so that one vet reward selection would NOT let you hop scotch all over the shards. Remember, they do sell tokens, they aren't going to completely gut that market. That is pretty much heavy limitations, IMHO. Can I pester you just a bit more to clarify this a little more for me please?Ok I'll help Petra's correct explanation out for you too.
This is what I did to my 2 choices for my son.
I put up a Origin Shield on his Atlantic house and a Atlantic Shield on our Origin Vendor shop.
This gives him the ability to take my mover character back and forth 1 time each way every month if he requires to do so.
The Shield can hold up to 10 transfers and no you dont need to have the return shield on the shard you want to visit.
Every 30 days you will earn a token up to 10 max for that shard the shield represents.
No random shard tolkens just the shard you pick.
Your not stuck to put the Shard Shield on the returning shard. All shields can be on your home shard if you so choose. You can place them all at 1 location and just collect the tokens as such:
Lets say you have a wall of the Shields (hypotheticaly it can be done)
Example of trip:
A rare fest is set for Sakura soon you wish to go and shop and sell off a few items there...
You would go to the Shield wall and collect a Token from the Sakura shield and one from your home shard.
Your all set.
Your allowed your full bank and what you can carry on your person, counting in the two tokens in this number. Dont forget you can wear items to go too. All pets must be stabled. NO PACKIES like with Transfer tolkens, sorry.
You know Petra there might be a suguestion for Mesanna on the Siege and Mugen Shields.. let transfers between those two Shards happen to each other.... They both are Siege ruleset so it should not hurt the balance.
So you HAVE to make 2 choices from the rewards menu (use to vet rewards) in order to be able to get back home from whatever shard you visited, right? That's the part that is confusing me. I would have thought that if you were just going to visit and not transfer, then a return token would be included when you go to the other shard. I guess I am incorrect in that thought.Ok Aboo ill see if i can clairify this for you.
You pick a Shard shiled for your home shard and one for the shard you want to visit. So that will be 2 choices from your rewards menu. Meaning a Shard Shield for Lake Superior and Shard Shield for Great Lakes.
You can place both in your home on Lake Superior and collect both tokens. Your trip to Great Lakes and back are then covered. You may do this every month if you like. Remember though if you use the token to Great Lakes you must stay over 24 hours then you may use your return token to go home.
Hope this helped.
Its a free token. This may sound petty but enjoy what your getting anyone else has to spend $20 for what your getting.
I think they designed it specifically so that one vet reward selection would NOT let you hop scotch all over the shards. Remember, they do sell tokens, they aren't going to completely gut that market.
From reading what you've written, you have no clue how these things work.I do not think it would have been much of a problem at all considering that there is only very few 14th year Veteran active accounts out there and that the limitation of 1 transfer token per month would have allowed only to a round trip every 2 months even if the represented shard had been allowed to get changed from one month to another.
As far as I'm concerned your comparing apples and oranges. The vet reward shields, from what I can see are more for "visiting" other shards rather than the all out move. You want an all out move with packies and all, show em your gold.I do not have the numbers, of course, but I think we may be talking of a very low amount compared with the entire revenue budget of Ultima Online...........
Not to mention, that all of the other limitations (account bound, no loaded pack animals, house required) make this means of transfer a lot less flexible and thus less interesting than the purchaseable one.....
I think they do what they are meant to do, no adjustment needed. Just my 2 GP worth. I've made my choice of home shard and my first visiting shard, next year I'll add a shard or to to the "visitation rotation".So, I am still convinced that allowing the represented Shard to be changed from one month to another would have not been a big deal at all while making this high end Veteran Reward a little more flexible and interesting to Veteran players.
was just thinking of that... as simple as it sounds, people MUST have an open char slot on the shard they're transferring to.I keep my 7th slot open on all shards 99% of the time
