Speedhacking is OP

Since there's evidently an ongoing amnesty on banning speedhackers. I think players who use speedhacks should suffer some negative effects.

I'm not saying that speedhacking is OP for all templates, however you find that speedhackers will use certain templates because it goes well with speedhacking. For example, you'll find a lot of speedhackers rolling with deathstrike poisoners as it works particularly well with that template.

Perhaps a cap on the death strike damage lower than normal if a player also uses a speedhack.

And for mages the speedhack should also be factored into the spelldamage, so a pure mage using speedhack should only be able to achieve 15% sdi in pvp since they already can cast faster.

Speedhacking is not OP...

A good speedhack is OP!

My favorite is the Disarm, Moving Shot Archer...totally depends on your speed to get the kill.

Or the blinky mage, blinks all over the screen casting spells.

I doubt anything will stop people from using speedhacks untill they have a hard speedcap capable of reaching (in both clients) without the use of any kind of speed enhancing programs, regardless if they are considered a speedhack or not.

There currently is a speed-cap and for those of you who say, people run faster than you while they are on foot, and your on mount, get some kind of recording of this, I have yet to Ever see such a thing since this "speed-cap" was implimented.

If they can't stop speedhacking, what makes you think they can identify it enough to give them a disadvantage like a lowered deathstrike? lol

Actually i disagree with you here Cetric, im pretty sure EA has designed a way to identify this just like scripting.

The problem boils down to, how they got said information on top of the effect enforcing would have on the overall effect on the game.

I dont really think this is "new" (them being able to identify it and all), the fact is they are afraid of enforcement....so where does this leave us?

You cant say you havent seen in the last couple years, some really massive speedhacking and some really insane multiboxing. I mean did you really think that harrower where one guy mowed down what 12MM with his multi box trick wasnt known already?

The cheating is getting to a whole new level on this game, and im happy to say i STILL havent partaken in it as i mow down people, but when i watch 1 guy mow down 12 in a row, or lets face it your guildy who moves at light speed, and EA does NOTHING, it basically is a slap in the face to all non cheaters.

It would be nice to see EA grow a pair one day, but im sure there will only be a handful of players left when they do.

Btw UO will be the last EA product i ever buy again lol....we can all see how well they take care of it.

There is a speed cap but there's also a limit to how fast the client can send updates to the server (which is below the speed cap). What the speedhacks do is spam those updates faster than the client can, essentially allowing you to move faster. It's basicly just poor network implementation in the clients that allows this. It honestly SHOULD be detectable as the clients doing it would be sending a lot of duplicate packets and a lot of extra packets per frame.

Another funny thing to note is the network code in the EC is a little different than the CC, EC doesn't move faster but updates at different intervals, so when people move fast in the EC in the CC it can look like they're skipping around like a speedhacker. (but they're just skipping frames, you can still keep up with them)

this, everybody you think is speed hacking is probably just using the EC with a very low ping..

I have taken pictures as i do of everyone who does this, however yet to film it. But indeed and for the ROC i will not name players but they know who they are. I have fraps, just never invested into full version maybe now i will.

Lower the games hard speed cap, therefore, no one can go past it.

Is that too complicated? Or do the programmers just not know how?

well, you can tell the difference between EC and speedhacker in that you can keep up with a guy in the EC, he just looks really funny moving like he is (almost looks like he's stuttering then moving like a paragon). Someone running a speedhack can nearly keep up with a mounted player in either client while on foot. (and yes, there are a lot of people still around who feel the need to cheat like this :/ ). Combine the two and it does, at the least "appear" that almost everyone is speed hacking, when in reality 50% of those are just the EC people's graphics glitching out.

And yes to sugarsmacks comment above, there should be a more restricted hard cap put on movement updates, it's absurd that a third party program is the only way you can hit the current movement cap, while even people on big beefy quad core machines with a fiber line, 2 blocks from the server can't keep up with them.
