Hi there!

I´m thinking about a template for the only purpose of dueling and I want to know your opinions, advices or tips before starting to build it up. It will be on factions.

Thinking on a 4/6 chiv dexxer:

120 fencing
120 parrying
100 tactics
100 anatomy
90 healing
105 chivalry
80 focus

715 skillcap

Fencing cause it have the fastest weapons, and I love war fork and kryss, my mainly weapons. Parrying for dueling dexxers and because I have and old shield with 15 dci, 14 hci, fc1, self repair, ready to use. 105 chivalry, obviously with max karma, for holy light spam against mages. I´m pretty sure that chivalry will counter the lack of resist. 80 focus for stamina reg and some helpful mana reg cause my shield will make chug pots a little harder.

After chug pots before any duel with an ecru ring, my stats will be around 150 str, 150 dex, 110 mana being an elf. 11-14 mana reg (it depends on my faction rank, I`ll wear an orny and a 1/3 hci dci ring). 60 hci/60 dci with max hpi and around 80 damage inc. HLD glasses and DI, HL (or HF against mages), HLA, SSI (HLL on kryss) and HML on weapons.

So...my main question is: do you think this template will be a good one for duels? Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks!

You will still run out of mana with just 80 focus, so lower it and use divine fury when the stamina drops to low. Kyrss's with 30ssi swing very fast so put more stats into mana than dex. With the changes to med, you can use partial values and still get regen.
Healing + anat isn't really needed (except to res someone red), although you can res blues. Fighting a mage without resist, even with trapped boxes, will suck.

I would suggest you try more of a hybrid setup, and there are a million variations:

Example 1:
120 Fencing
120 Resist
120 Tactics
80 Poison
105 Chiv
90 Parry
40 Med
40 Focus

Or my old setup, which I played for years:
(and is a blast to play)

120 Fencing
120 Resist
100 Tactics
80 Poison
105 Chiv
85 Spellweaving
65 Med
40 Focus

Enjoy

Mana would be my concern. But I think it is possible for dueling. That being said if you can't get your dex to 150 don't worry about healing and pump those points into something that will get you mana and use close wounds and pots.

Thank for your replies

You are right domii: 80 focus isn´t enough for mana reg and, as you have said, I could use divine fury for refill my stamina when needed. So...maybe 60 med and 20 focus would suit best. I suppose 11 mr + 60 med should be enough for a decent mana regeneration rate. I like those 2 templates you have posted but I don´t really want to use poison and I already have a 4/6 sw caster, so I want a new template to have fun with. I´m not worry about fighting a mage on duel pit cause 4/6 augus luminous are really really fast and I could disrupt every curse I want.

And, Mirt: the same for you, maybe 80 focus would make mana a big problem but I dont want to rely exclusively on clouse wounds for my heals: they can be disrupted and they cost mana. On the other hand, 140 dex should be a good number with fast weapons and 10 more mana points are worthy.

That said, my template will look like

120 fencing
120 parrying
100 tactics
100 anatomy
90 healing
105 chivalry
60 meditation
20 focus

715 skillcap

And 10 more mana points, around 120 total.

Any other comment?

I recommend the 150 dex because your bandies will work faster and that is worth it if you ask me. I think if you can get the mana regen high enough (which you can with items from Shame) this should be good to go. Even cursed items can work because there is no looting in the arena’s if memory serves. I also recommend refresh pots. I believe that its relatively easy to set a drop shield drink pot return shield macro in the EC I currently don't use it but that maybe an even better option as it will lay off your mana. When you decide I would love to see it in action as I am toying with the idea of making a just an arena template myself.

If I'd going to PvP I'd made my suit from Legendary Artifacts... cursed, can not be repaired, -100 luck.

For example, you can get a weapon with splintering, mana drain, all lichs. And switch it for some weapon with 9/9/9 regens when you run away. Also you can get str/dex/int, damage eater on armor pieces. For example, you can get 15% damage eater + 125 resists total from one item. (I think you can enchant them to increase durability or resists)
I believe it's not bad to have 30% energy eater + 30% fire eater vs mage.
May be 30% soul charge on your shield will allow you to cast more spells

p.s. I have no any PvP experiences.

For example, I use a suit that gives me 118 mana/int, 30+ MR, 100 LCR, 40 LMC, 8 FCR to train casting skills (and I trade 24 mana/int for 4 FC at beginning when mana cost of spells is low).

Leeches are not really all that effective in pvp. I would go with better mods like swing speed, HLA and HLD. If you can fit it in a hit spell.

Well mana drain is relatively new and might be effective, but one of the big pvp issues is speed. The splintering could be useful, but it really only causes a bleed attack, which doesn't seem overpowering. It could be useful in certain situations against mages I would say. But the Swing speed is critical and of course HLD really helps you get more hits. That being said its always a balancing act and this is somewhat new territory as the arenas are brand new. I am very curious to see what we end up finding that is supreme. My guess is that most of the shame items will not be a main weapon in pvp but a task specific tool. This will probably give a boost to EC numbers as the macro system for arm disarm is better (I am told).

I thought you lose control for few seconds.

Not only arm/disarm - you can change your whole suit in second or two by pressing one key.

Splintering drops durability by 10 and causing a bleed effect if it goes off. I would probably consider using the EC if it didn't run so poorly on my system. I am willing to wait to try it again until I upgrade both the computer and the internet connection.

Thank you again.

Shame´s new stuff could be useful. Good to know.

Thinking in what domii said, another template could go without the 190 skillpoints investment on anato/heal. Something like this:

120 fencing
120 parrying
120 bushido
120 tactics
105 chivalry
115 med

Bushido would make a more offensive template with ls and confidence + clouse wounds could serve as heal. 35% of parry with one handed weapon it´s great against dexxers and, versus mages, evasion is useful too with that mana pool. Then I could lower dex by 20 points, raising int; and with no need of shield, I could chug pots easily, but then weapons should carry fc1 and I will lose 15/14 dci/hci. With this template, tactics would be: casting ls with a war fork until I get a critical strike, then bleed, switch to a kryss and spam armor ignore till death.

I think I´ll give a try to both templates and see what happens ;)

I think that would be a viable dueling temp. I am curious to know how it works out so let me know.

Okay, I have tested those two templates on duel pit. And another one. Here are my thoughts, as Mirt wants to know:

First one,

120 fencing
120 parrying
100 tactics
100 anatomy
90 healing
105 chivalry
60 meditation
20 focus

It´s a tough template. Wearing mr 14 as I wear, mana isn´t really a problem. Parry + clouse wounds + bandages is awesome versus dexxers and augus is a perfect disrupt spell. The only problem I´ve found is that it´s not a very offensive template, as you depends totally on special weapons to make real damage. Anyway, it goes pretty well. Only poisoners would be really painful against it due to the difficult of chug pots. And it would be useful too on pvp field, unless you get dismounted by dexxers.

Second one,

120 fencing
120 parrying
120 bushido
120 tactics
105 chivalry
115 med

It´s a very very funny template to duel with. Against casters, well played, this template is almost unkillable: you just need to stand right there and cast obsu vulni until the end of times. But, and that´s the problem, bleeds are a headache. Confidence will not work and you have to clouse wounds over and over again, which makes very difficult to get a kill versus a dexxer: when you cast, you are not doing any damage, when you dont cast, you are getting a lot of damage if you are bleeding. Lack of bandages makes things hard. It´s a matter of practice.

And last, but not least, another template I tested

120 fencing
100 parrying
120 bushido
90 tactics
90 anatomy
90 healing
105 chivalry

I have found it the most balanced char. The only bid deal with it is mana. You must wear lots of mana reg (I duel with mr 14 but can easily fit 16). I have to take a look at new shame stuff. Altough, if you play it well, you dont really have to waste a lot of mana: versus a dexxer, have confidence always toggled on, and, as I said, cast ls until you finally get a critical, then bleed, then switch to a kryss and spam armor ignore. Against casters, same tactics, only have to cast augus luminous if you see a powerful spell coming or if you dont want to get cursed. If you can, it would be fine to remake jewels and get +15 parry on ring and wait for the +5 skillpoints veteran reward to have 35% chance to parry. As you can chug pots freely, it´s, by far, the toughest dexxer template I have ever played. And it´s more offensive than the second one, because you have not to cast clouse wounds every time you are bleeding. So, it´s my favourite one.

I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks. Its nice to see some results on something like this as I have been only toying around with the idea in my spare time. Most of my playing time has been spent hunting in shame.

How do you get 4/6? Could you post your suit for each template?

I want to try those templates in PvM. What do you think which one is better than others for PvM?

I´m sorry but I don´t remember the first and second one because the third it´s the only one i´m playing with now. His suit is:

Faction Artifacts:
Spirit of Totem
Primer on Arms
Fey Leggings

Gloves, sleeves and neck imbued with mr, hpi, lmc and mana inc.

Rest of armor: quiver, tangle, sash, int boots, shroud of the condemned.

And, finally, to reach 4/6: ornament, 1/3 ring with hci/dci and fc1 on weapon.

For PvM I wouldnt recommend any of those three templates. For PvM, in my opinion, best templates are necromage(or necrotamermage) and sampires. By the way, the first or the third should be ok.
