This is a guy who had no idea the buried treasure he uncovered and wanted to support. It was a few bumpy roads and learning experiences both ways but we've come to complement each other nicely.
TGN Social concentrates on Youtube gaming videos and recently branched into encouraging music artists too. Being a division of TGN means more development support and eventually more integration with some great people.
George is a great guy who is all about community and his profile motto is "Expression is my passion." Kudos right back atcha George for helping us get UO up to date!

Its nice to see thanks for the stratics team. Though I wasn't a member of the staff while the move happened I do know about what it took to get the move done and the updating that went on.
It's also great being able to support the community not only by reporting news for my shard but also being part of the content team, updating and creating pages as necessary. Community to me is what makes UO great and getting to help that community is why I am here.

Talk is not cheap with George
Petra wouldn't take a dime. She does not want to make her hobby a job.
You would be surprised to find how many of us feel the same way.
Having moderated here for years, I have a fair ole idea of what's involved, Airmid. And as long as I've known her, I've never once known Petra to need anyone to answer on her behalf! 
There are paid TGN staff. What Petra has achieved, the sheer scale & magnitude, is spectacular. Should George elect to reward such loyalty & dedication with something other than lip service, surely such an offer would be for Petra herself to consider.
I gain precisely nothing from making such a suggestion. I just like to see those who roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty reaping some of the rewards.

I really don't want something I do because I enjoy it, setting my own targets, tasks and hours of work - or not work as the mood takes me, to become something I do as a job with time commitments and all that goes with it.
We all feel the same way. If this was a job I wouldn't do it..it would be too much like work! LOL
I came in near the end of the big transfer and helped transfer over some pages and even created one of my own. It was a huge undertaking, but I think Stratics was left in capable hands when Petra was given the priviledge of bringing some life back into it.
I am very lucky to be back and a part of the team again and glad that you all enjoy it. It's an ever-changing, ever-evolving thing and the team we have now I think works well together and with Petra as our matriarch I think things will be just fine

Don't just talk about it, we don't want to hear that Petra takes this monumental task humbly... in public... we want you to give her something money can't buy. Just cause you can and a thousand shimmering silver heads of wisdom are looking at you.

Ahu, as Petra said above she doesn't want anything from George.
What makes Petra most happy is appreciation from the members of this community. She doesn't want paying IRL, she doesn't want in game items or special treatment.
For Petra appreciation for what the stratics team as a whole does and more importantly seeing that the community has the information is her payment.
I should also point out that when videos are made they are most often done by Watchertoo - she doesn't get paid for them and Stratics doesn't supply her with what she needs to be able to do it.
Final note from me: Ahu the extent of Petra's contribution to stratics could never be accurately quantified. Since 2009 (not sure of the exact date) she took on the process of updating the info on the site which was outdated in most areas. Various members of the team did help with this but I can guarantee you that Petra did a good majority of it personally.

Every Stratics staffer is a volunteer at the present time. Eventually, TGN would like to offer incentives to Managing Editors. However, as noted above, Petra and many of our other MEs have already outright declined any form of compensation. They do it for the love of game and community.

It has to be original... and ok I'm willing to admit that maybe she thinks thanks are the highest praise ; but everyone has different consciousnesses and different perspectives. Let me repeat myself :
This video posted publicly, showing how Petra has been doing this selflessly, so much that it enticed compassion to make the video.
According to your logic, you just ruined the "humility" part of the thanks. Cause for it to be genuine, you have to stay quiet and let people find out, or tell only those who ask who to thank. And please don't go think I'm being negative ; I feel at peace today... its just something that if I let it pass in a few years you'll bite your nails about it. Noone wants broken logic in their community.

If she doesn't want it, which is a hypothetical "if" because she's said numerous times that she doesn't, then you should butt out.
This isn't the first time the subject of monetary compensation has come up, and while it won't be the last, her decision has been unwavering.
It's pretty disrespectful to assume that you know better than her on this subject, and all this discusion is just bringing undue attention to a subject that's long been closed.

Thank you both. Long may stratics continue to deserve the thanks, and with continuing community help and support I have no doubt it will be the case.
As deserving as the praise is, however enormous the love of game might be, no matter how much free time one has to offer, what rankles is that George turns a nice profit off the backs of those who give their time for free.

And it's the only way it can be. They don't make enough money to pay everyone, on a consistent basis, plus all the legal costs. And they volunteer out of a desire to do so, and for some to gain a background to perhaps move on to a paying job in a field they want to be in. So it works. And there's nothing wrong with it. And I'm glad he makes money, because without that, this site doesn't exist.
And honestly, Petra and others could have done far less and no one would have held anything against them. They did what many people do, their best. Pay or no pay. That's why they are being honored, because they did it regardless, out of their own desire, and just to do it well.
(Yeah, Petra, you aren't nothin' special. Righhhhhht. Now someone is getting the idea to sell me a bridge.)
I'm sorry LadyNico but this time I'll speak for myself. George makes no profit off of Stratics whatsoever. I know this because I got to see for myself how often Stratics was running in the red at great cost to him. Our goal has been and continues to be building Stratics back up to a healthier version of itself.
I know its customary to take just about anything positive and rattle it til you find the negative but trust me when I tell ya that George is very appreciate of everyone on staff that volunteers their time. I know this because I've been thanked by him countless times. This is a community built from volunteers and players alike who enjoy Ultima Online.
Sometimes its just nice to say thank you and move along. Geesh.
Airmid, your loyalty is admirable, but you aren't speaking for yourself when you speak of George's profit margin lol.
I can speak of things I have knowledge of. You choose to see things a certain way and that's fine. I'll leave this be and not bring any more negativity into this thread as has already happened.
