Does a small turkey graphic exist?

Ches had a Turkey event w/ Pyre-turkeys, could have sworn they were small turkey graphics. Anyone recall? I'm sure most shards had a similar event.

Anyway, I was thinking they should make limited time small turkeys we can tame. Then we can fight chickens with turkeys. The ultimate battle!

Make it happen, Grimm. :)

Considering turkeys are as stupid as bricks… I don’t think it would make a wonderful pet.

BUT I do agree… and have posted it a few times before, that the wonder effort and talent that went into making this giant turkey graphic, shouldn’t be limited to 1 month a year. They should allow a small “normal” version to wonder the woods. Why exactly do we have gorillas wondering around in woodlands… when they shouldn’t exist all over the UO globe? Real life, they only live in 1 small part of the world. UO world… is based in historical Europe, where there is no turkey TRUE… but they could be imported far better then gorillas.

Also… shrinkage… they shrink down items all the time. Trick or Treat guillotine and the covered chair come to mind.

Not to forget what the man said, “Chicken make lousy house pet!” I think the same can be said for these clucks.

So the Legacy client doesn't have a small turkey like the giant one, but in the EC client both turkeys are the same. But both clients have small turkeys in them.

As for fighting them, well that would be an appeal to Messana and Phoenix!

Sounds awesome, though!

The best thing about the gorilla is the noise-making vet statue. A couple years ago, I got a little crazy with a theme decoration for my shopping mall… and turned the whole front yard into a jungle. Hidden under all the ferns, both normal plants and rubble… I hid 20 gorilla statues, all turned on. Anyone visiting was instantly bombarded with the wildest jungle noises. Frankly, I hate noisemakers… but that was funny, fall over funny… getting messages from people that jumped in their chairs.

Gorillas are the best. Back in the olden days, when we were innocent and youthful, I set up a gorilla sanctuary in the Skara Brae paddock.
What fun my little primates and I had as we rolled in the mud and "all killed" any untamed animals that dared to cross our path.
Each morning at server up I would check to see if Uncle Joe or Digit or Diane were still there, but they never were. All things must pass.

Not the current event turkey, but someone made a Turkey graphic years back, that was about 3-4 times the size of a chicken, brown, and didn't appear to be a resized chicken (though might have started out as one, before getting a more rounded shape).

They were wandering around the Luna moongate one Thanksgiving before the current versions showed (2006, 2007 or 2008 - can't remember which).

Hehe that sounds awesome :). I don't have the noises turned on for statues either (not that I even use them much, except for the dragon). But that would be funny to try out some time. Speaking of which, ambient sound-wise, my very very very favorite part of the UO geography are the jungles in the south west corner of the mainland where the Honor shrine is. I can't count how many times I've stalked the plots there to be able to place a house. That sound is so soothing and relaxing and I can imagine living in that area must be wonderful (well except if there's a spawn nearby). The sound is actually funny because it has a bug so that when you travel elsewhere, it keeps on playing. Has been that way for as long as I can remember.

Hmmm, before we made the new turkey for KR (which is the same o e as the big one used in events now), the only turkey I am aware of in the Legacy client was the one that was actually a re-hued eagle.

Ahhh thank you! Very cool, glad I wasn't losing my mind... ;)

Obviously there are more pressing issues at hand, but we do love our tameables...haha :)

Dude... I saw those turkeys (EC client) for the first time the other day. I looked at them for a while, and I think they look really nice.

..but it's made it even harder to look at my Hiryu now, because I realize just how good the EC client can be for doing large, feathered creatures. In fact, the giant turkey looks closer to what (in my mind) a Hiryu should look like than the existing model. It is even the correct size relative to the player (the present one being too large).

So yeah I am all appreciating the giant turkey's model and texture but my first reaction when I saw it was like this - - woh look at the turkey - woh, my Hiryu could look that good...

i too seem to remember for a short time one thanksgiving that there was a small turkey graphic (had its tail feathers up and fanned out all the time) Back then the only time you could see it was on champ bosses. thought it was in the CC but maybe im mistaken and the small turkey was on KR and the cc had the rehued eagle. I know i saw screen shots here when it was goin on, might try searchin for post if it survived.

Small turkey?? I dont recall any graphics of one in all of my 14 years playing out side the Thanksgiving ones. Are you sure your not confusing UO with WOW?? now they do have the small graphic of a turkey that fits your discription.

I remember bodyconv.def had a reference number for a turkey graphic before the giant ones showed up (it was put in there some time after the second year of random turkeys wandering Britain), and I could have sworn I did indeed see a small one somewhere in a screenshot or maybe at a turkey shoot event in-game (that wasn't just a rehued graphic I mean), but I can't remember that second one for sure.

Yep I remember this one as well! A traditional plump type of turkey. Was wondering where they'd got to!

I like the big fat oversized turkeys, course when I see one I just run the other way.
I never remember if they attack on sight
or only if we attack them anyhow.
But I like the looks of the big oversized ones.

Not sure of lil reg sized ones or not,
but I believe on a long closed down acct.
I do have a pet small turkey on Siege,
that a couple of friends, Castor and Skylark gave me yrs yrs ago.
STILL STABLED on that inactive acct.

Yet when they let us re log into accts. for free
with some UO anniversaries,
I log that acct. back on just to visit her lil pet turkey, again !
But it looks just like a lil chicken yet it reads 'a turkey'.

Still had it, last time I did that 'temp' reactivating
of that inactive acct. like 2 yrs ago, I think !

I still have tamed lil pink and purple
EASTER BUNNIES in stables too, on some of my chrs. !
I call them *rares* now.

Nice! Never heard of being able to tame those, were they from an event? I also have some "rares" in my stables as well, some red sheep from a zoo event on Europa many moons ago. One of the quests was to go and tame as many red sheep as possible if I remember right. We were told we can keep them too, but were later told we can't after all. Well I was naughty and kept them in my stables anyhow. Once in a while I'll claim them for just a few minutes to give them a good pet before they attract any attention, then restable them :).

OT: neon bunnies were rare, all normal bunnies were coloured dull purplish for Easter. My tamer, being completely amoral, killed hundreds of dull bunnies to tame two neon ones, a rabbit and a jack rabbit.

Aw I want red sheep!

I'm not sure why red sheep are rule-breakers unless it somehow gave a rare wool or something. It's annoying when they add something to game and then pull it when the addition doesn't seem to interrupt balance (silver steedssss!).

Er.. Saph.. you probably shouldn't parade those around.. aren't those the sheep that got ... god I can't remember his name right now but the event staffer for that shard.. IGM Talos was it?... fired? More than that, weren't they all confiscated forcibly?

Saphireena

Eek! IGM Talos was FIRED over those? Seriously? I knew that his work as IGM ended soon after but I had no idea it was because of that. If it's true, that's just... just WRONG. He worked his butt off to make wonderful things for us and his intent was for good. I can understand firing someone because they use a hack to do something evil, but all he wanted was to give us a memorable experience. :(((( I'll never forget that event!

As for the sheep, well we were asked to get rid of them but it ermm "slipped my mind". What do you reckon is the worst thing that would happen to me if they find those sheep on my account? I mean would it be a bannable offence to keep them? Or would they just remove them from my stables and that would be that?

Since ethereal coloured pets have been created/given away at events, I don't think anyone will mind some red sheep ;)

Grimm - this one that Saph, Xalan and Crysta are referring to, is the one I mentioned before. A large chicken-ish type bird with the Turkey tail feathers fanned, like you see on a lot of simple art like wallboard decorations and those old fan-out paper table centerpieces.

Hmm, well, if it was commented in the. Bodyconv file, odds are good it was done post UOSE as commenting in that file wasnt really done much before then. And an I'd in th bodyconv file doesn't necessarily mean that there was a unique animation for it.

I've been through every animation in the legacy client and I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't removed prior to my browsing the animations, nor does it mean that I didn't just flat out miss it!

Cheers!

To be honest, I think if it was in there, it was replaced/removed just before they turned on the giant turkeys originally, so a patched copy of the client from some months before then might have the original one in it still, if it existed. You could look up patch notes to get an approximate timeframe, then do a really old install and let it slowly work its way through 'til you get to an area that would be about right.

For additional help, I can tell you i'm pretty sure the bodyconv.def entry didn't move, or if it did it wasn't much, so it definitely happened sometime after ML, and would likely place it in the timeframe of where it is in that file, between publishes 42 and 52 somewhere, or at least before the new graphic was put in for 62.

Really wish I could narrow it in better than a frame of 30 bloody publishes, but.. my memory sucks. I can say I do remember it being added in there the same time as the Time Lord and new Shadowlord entries though, but I could be remembering wrong. I also remember I asked constantly about it on the forums for a while, but never did get a solid answer either way, nor did I get any help searching for it with insideUO.

Oh.. and as to stuff "being in for more than * months generally being too late to change".. honestly, for most of the things added with LBR and SE and ML, replacing them with stuff not ripped from low res polygonal models wouldn't be too bad so long as they fit in better in the long run. For example, i've yet to hear any complaints about the changed gargoyles, and that happened just after SA. The ones you really need to be careful about are the mounts that were added with each of those (of which currently the only one with a KR equivalent that actually looks exactly like the original creature is the Ridgeback).. everything else should be fair game to replace so long as you give them the same run-overs that you did with the 2D SA sprites.
