Lord Oaks - Ilshenar

Is it possible to solo Lord Oaks? I was thinking of trying it with an archer in wraith form with a fey slaying bow. Has anyone soloed him successfully?

Yes, it's possible. Archer is probably the best candidate to do it for melee. The fey slayer bow might make it easier now, but I think you'll still need something better (with hit area) for clearing the spawn levels.

Thanks for the thread. I see that Farsight was able to do this on an archer, before the fey slayer bows were even available. I'll have to make some changes to my template, but I think this is worth trying out. :)

Just a quick note -- Throwing>Archery IMO:

1) No ammo requirement
2) Can use potions

And some direct weapon comparisons...

Repeating Crossbow 2.75s 8-12 base damage
Boomerang 2s 8-12 base damage
Mystic Arc > Dbl Strike, and although it probably doesn't matter, Boomerang is 2s and Repeater is 2.75 (you'll hit 1.25s with either, though)

Magic Shortbow 3s 9-14 base damage
Cyclone 3s 13-17 base damage
The base damage difference here isn't even fair.

Compositve Bow 4s 13-17 base damage
Soul Glaive 4s 18-22 base damage
If the last base damage comparison wasn't fair, this is even worse (better?).

I just got a chance to try out my wraith thrower on Slasher last night, and hitting for 240+ every 1.5s is a lot of fun. I haven't tried champ spawns yet and am not sure which weapon to use for low-level spawns. Soul Glaive will kill things in one shot, Boomerang has Mystic Arc and is faster, and Cyclone would be higher base damage than boomerang but no mystic arc. Decisions, decisions.

Sure; there are pros and cons to using it instead of other versions for sure --

120 Throwing
120 Tactics
120 Anatomy
105 Chivalry
95 Healing
70 Spirit Speak
50 Bushido
40 Necro

Here's my line of thinking behind the skills I've chosen (this character is more for soloing big slow bosses than for champ spawns, but I do want to try champ spawns with it to see how it does) --

The first 3 are no-brainers. I'm not a fan of giving characters a tiny amount of utility at the cost of damage (e.g. lower tactics or anatomy for X skill). 105 chivalry has yet to be tested to its full extent. I run 80 on my sampire for 100% consecrate, but I was figuring it's a damage boost over 80 chiv on anything I don't get to honor, and I also want to try holy light while throwing during low-level spawns. I plan to use a cyclone with hit area and just spam holy light while running around. I tried this on test on a melee char and it's pretty fun to have holy light tag everything you run by. I wish damage was higher, but what can you expect from a spell you can cast on the move while swinging your weapon?

Healing and bushido are the tough ones for me. I had the option to bump bushido to 120 for evasion and momentum strike and scrap healing altogether. This would have lowered karma due to casting curse weapon pretty often, and there are certain places where no healing is just a pain (e.g. Slasher of Veils stuns you; I watched a ton of sampires get pwned last night because they couldn't heal during the stun). I may make the swap but haven't tested enough yet.

40 Necro is for Curse Weapon when I know I'm going to be taking a bunch of damage and also so wraith form doesn't fizzle all the dang time. Combine it with bandages and in theory, I shouldn't die very often. 70 Spirit Speak is enough to make curse weapon last a decent amount of time while also ensuring wraith leeches enough mana to be able to nonstop AI against anything with a good amount of mana.

I can't think of anything that will boost damage output, so I'm going to stick with the template and try it in varying places (mini champs, champs, solo bosses, and soon, Shame) before making any tweaks. On a side note, I can run the same template and have it be pretty effective even while not in wraith. I may even swap to melee at some point for bosses (I'm running FC 2 on my jewelry so Curse Weapon isn't interrupted). Let me know if you have any questions on how I use the character or gear and I'll be happy to answer.

I remember that thread well.:thumbup1:

Do realize that I started that thread back before SA came out. Much has changed for suits with SA artifacts and more so with imbuing. You can successfully solo more now than when that thread was current.

Oh, and this is my version of the wraith thrower. Same concept as Lord GOD chronicled and Bort described above. It is current for Pub 71's chivalry change.

120 Throwing
115 Bushdio (for momentum strike)
100 Tactics
100 Anatomy
100 Healing
85 Chivalry
60 Spirit Speak (+10 on ring to get to 70)
40 Necromancy

I guess I didn't realize that momentum strike worked with throwing. That could be useful when trying to kill spawn quickly. I already have 120 bushido on a soulstone that I can use, so I have a feeling I'll be using something close to your template Obsidian. Thanks all. I can't wait to test this out!!!!
