New GM Response?

After paging on a scripter I received a message from a GM telling me that the matter I had reported would be 'under immediate investigation' - A small change in the wording (if it is a change) of the auto reply and yet it makes me feel much more positive that the matter would be looked into, rather than getting some brushoff like before about how it would be looked into...maybe...but we can't tell you about it...

Strange how one word can make a huge difference in that. But I agree it does. Then again maybe they are stepping it up some on their end also.

You should perhaps check on said scripter and see if anything happens.

The scripts used to be pretty sophisticated about responding, though, I've read. As in they would say, "losing connection" and then log off in response to certain stimuli.

Shards are full of them, and EA/Mythic whatever there called now know that if they ban them all they'll file for bankruptcy. Not hard to show that there using something but Ea does not care.

I would almost bet that if I posted on here that I was going to run a character on a script and told the characters name, shard, and location---a week from now he would still be scripting unmolested!

??Can scripts run for a week??


I have reported on a number of blatant scripters and no action is ever taken.

I've reported several blatant scripters, Griefers, and other cheaters... they are still playing... as are the 2 or 3 I've reported for having extremely offensive and inappropriate names... I still see their names almost everyday... and in my opinion getting around the "sensor" by cheating it so you can use an offensive name is a flagrant disregard for the ToS and should result in immediate termination of service...

But I guess that's my opinion and it's not shared by the GM's.

if it wasnt for the mass resource scripters this game would have died out a long time ago.

we need a way to purchase things in quantity and its those guys that lets that happen.

the other day i needed a few thousand wood.. what you think i did? bought 60k worth from a vendor..

there is no way i am going to purchase wood from npc and there is no way i am going to spend my entire weekend getting it myself..

I agree and after coming back seeing names of players I knew as scripters and exploiters back then now representing the UO community as EM's , Mods and reporters you start to fully understand why nothing is done.

Really? I have not witnessed any of that.

I know how one would know who mods and reporters are in game. But how would you know who an EM is/was in game?

players tend to know each other outside the game share info and communicate via things like ICQ even have a few old UO friends on my personal facebook. Before they were EM's they were normal players. They didn't become top secret navy seals or anything they just applied and were accepted as EM's. I'm not gonna go pointing fingers and post names. People can change and I wont rain on their parade they lucked out and were never caught good for them. But I would think about the credibility of players before you put them in a position to represent the community more careful in the future.

Then I do not understand why the policy stays with scripting being a forbidden activity in the game.......

I mean, a policy is a policy, either whatever the policy says IS enforced, OR, the policy is changed to whatever different reality one wants to achieve.

Now, to have something as NOT allowed but let it be is a total contradiction.

Scirpters are left be ? Well, then CHANGE the policy and allow ALL OF THE PLAYERS to freely script as they wish without any fear.

I'd rather prefer, though, to see scripting opposed and ended for good and a zero tolerance enforced.........

Then change the policy from scripting being an illegal activity to it being allowed to ALL players in the game.

What I find not acceptable, and a slap into the face of honest players, is that the policy sets scripting as a not legal activity in the game but then hardly anything is done to end it for good or to ban accounts that script and related accounts which take advantage from the scripting of other accounts.

I do not care if it ain't possible to end scripting for good or whether it is a choice not to loose subscriptions. The point is that if there is a policy than either this policy IS enforced, zero tolerance, OR the policy is changed and the activity made legal.

It is the current status of a policy which states something as illegal but then hardly anything is done to enforce it that is unfair towards players who play by the rules.

Reporting scripters with UO so under populated is counter-productive. Until they come up with a better punishment for scripting that doesn't hurt the game fiscally just grief them, ie. stand on their recall spot or get them killed if they bother you that much. Most of the time the threat of getting paged on will be enough to make them stop. Getting them banned will cost the game several accounts in most cases. Scripters usually have 3+ accounts, so you aren't just banning one "bad guy", you are costing the game several valuable subscriptions.

One the other hand if you witness someone hacking or duping then by all means get them removed immediately. There is a difference, a scripter is just automating regular game actions as opposed to a hacker that is manipulating code or a duper that is counterfeiting items.

If there's an imbalance that would be caused by kicking the scripters out, sounds like the game could use some design changes done simultaneously with seriously detecting and booting the scripters.

(That and, an actual department or team that deals with abuse and loss prevention specifically, if there isn't one already...)
