Brittle items. There is talk of being able to repair these items by means of a cleanup or whatever. The mechanic of this is largely irrelevant.

My request for the devs is to make the repair of these items dependent on player engagement. I propose that any allowance for the repair of these items only be able to be performed by a live person at a special forge(Brit forge would be a great place for it IMO ) This however is really not the task as that would be too easy(we'll take it though :))

The task:

Create a means to repair items via the trade window. After the person buys the repair materials for said brittle item they will have to put that into the trade window with the item for the smith/tailor etc. A good provision would be to also add a tip option that draws directly out of the bank.

Nice idea, bring back community at the forges.

It would have been nice but after AoS almost all players made thier own Smith/Tailor to do all repairs. I am one of the old schools Smith/Tailor that stood at the forges and did repairs for tips but after AoS nobody wanted to hand over items so this died and I do not think there will be any way to ever bring this back. Why? Everybody has a Smith/Tailor to do this so why waist the time to look for someone else to do it for you.

Agreed. However, if there was only 1 place this could be done at and there was a secure trade window where I wasn't afraid my item would be stolen I'd be inclined to let someone else do it rather than trade the item, log in my crafter, go to the repair location, go back and trade the item again. Hit people where it hurt. Their lazy bone :hahaha:

Years ago I made a counter proposal to the dreaded Repair contract.

I proposed that special boxes be added to tailors, smithy's and even tinkerers shops. One that worked very much like the current vendor contracts.

You walk up to the box drop in your item... a menu would come up and ask "What would you like done to this item?"

You could then chose:

  • Repair the item.

  • Enhance the item.
Now you might add:

  • Imbue the item.

  • Strengthen the item.
Upon choosing say Repair... you would then be further asked "Target the Crafter whom you would like to fulfill this order." And you could get a targeting cursor to target say "Krom"... Legendary Blacksmith.

Krom would then get a box that says "Suezy Q would like you to repair her Sword. Do you accept?" And then a price is bargained for... This gold would come from the person asking for the repair... if both parties agree then the item in question would be repaired "IN" the box. Where both can see the messages. And when complete only the person who put the item in the box originally can take it out. Items left in the box longer than 2 hours would be automatically returned to the original person placing it in the box. To keep things moving there could be several boxes at each place or a crafter might simply be able to add his own box while he's there. Say like being able to place trash barrels... be able to walk up and say "I wish to place a service box." Or something like that.

When enhancing or Imbuing it would ask things like what would you like this item enhanced with? What new attributes would you like added to this item? And so on and so forth.....

I think it would be a prefect solution to adding to the game and bringing back socialization. Do away with the silly repair deeds and bring interaction back to UO.

This is a good idea, it would make it worth crafters being at the forges.

Actually I think non-repairable should be turned into repairable but breakable (under a process much like enhancing, if sucessful it is fixed,, but if you fail, it is destroyed, with skill being a big part of the success/failure rate). The brittles should be POF able up to the maximum which was on the item to start with, with the exact same situation, success means you are back to maximum for that item based upon its original max,, failure means you destroy it.

I think this is a great idea but I don't think it has anything to do with being lazy. Alot of times we jump on the computer to do an Event and find out that 4 or 5 people need repairs. So, i'll switch to my Smith character and then back into my hunting character and then someone will say, That they still need something repaired.

So, it becomes an inconvenience. If I don't want to play Smith, it takes the fun out of the game. If I log in as a Warrior and i'm putting myself into character, I don't want to have some kind of Bi-Polar experience and have to change Roleplay every time somebody needs something.

And you can't just go to the forge and become a Smith and say, everyone come and get repairs because no one will trust you. So, you can't really roleplay a Smith, you can only have the skill.

And then everyone buys the repair deeds and I have to sit there making 300-400 repair deeds because my Smith has some type of item complex and a general fear of people and it makes my Smith feel so unimportant to log in and ask people if they need repairs while they say no and continue to buy out my repair deed vendor.
