Worth coming back? Questions

I first joined just after LBR and stayed until just after ML (The Elf expansion thingy), i left due to RL commitments, but thinking of coming back ...

I play on the European (Europa) shard and interested this time in having a mage/necro char (not read about the other types of magic user, are they faesable in pvm?, what good spells do they have? what templates do you recommend?)

i had (hopefully still have) a tamer/discord template and a samurai/necro template (vampire form, but i read they changed it, not allowing jewels to be used to reach 99 necro?)

People still use uo assist? i used to use it but was lost many years ago..on an old pc...

So, any advice?

All replies appreciated

You can still use jewels you just have to keep them on all the time. Despite the fact that I am thinking about taking a vacation or shard happing at this very minute coming back is a great idea. The big think for the sampire (samurai/necro) is the last great chiv nerf you will need to be more in the 80's with chiv for the mere 65. Necro mages are just plain fun to run (and this is coming from a hardcore dexxer who hates running most mages). Spell weaving and even mysticism can be a fun addition to a necromage as well (I love my necro mage mystic). Europa is also a good shard to come back to as there are a lot of kind and dedicated players that are not only active on forums but tend to help out new and returning players.

I am a Europa returning player myself, so can't help you much on the builds.
But I can tell you that it is possible to recover your UOA key if you still use the same UO account.

Coming back is a great idea. Your template should still be feasible, even though your equipment will be seriously sub-par.

UOAssist is still working - but only with the old Client (Classic). For the new Client there's a thing called "Pinco's UI", mod that does most things that Assist did and quite a few more.

And Europa is one of the nicest shards to play on.

So short answer: yes!

As a recent returnee myself I can say I'm having a blast... I would also recommend playing with the EC and Pinco's. I find it works well(now) and has much more functionability.

But that's a matter of personal preference of course.. Welcome Back!

Honestly.. to anyone thinking about coming back...

The $15 (or whatever it is for one month) is worth the risk... $15 for a test run will get you 30 days to see if its worth your time or not. But be warned! That $15 could cost you a small fortune when your hooked again...

I agree with what the otherd have said. While I don't play europa I poke in there once in a while for x shard trading and whatnot and its always a pleasant experience. I can also add disco/tamer is still a primo template (I'm building one myself).

I hope you come back. I know I'm having as much fun as I've had since the early days. I also personally think SA was a great expansion.

Duh. It's UO, it's always a good idea to come back ;-) A strength of this game for veteran players is the complexity. So much to do and so many playstyles. If you start to feel like you've won UO, there is always something new to try or to try again. The community, while not as large as it once was, is still terrific.

For me: Imbuing adds a whole new dimension to the game. There are so many ways you can squeeze additional skill into your 720 skill cap. My main char has 865 skill, and I have a blast. He's a Ninja Mystic:

120 Mysticism
120 Focus
120 Ninjitsu
100 Hiding
80 Stealth
120 Swords
90 Tactics
115 Bushido

Is this build so skill heavy it's stupid? Yes! Is it fun? Definitely!

Do I get res killed when unhide because I forgot to put my pants (shadow dancer leggings) back on? Of course!

I agree, well worth coming back. Even with the older gear you have now. However Imbuing will get your gear to great status quickly.

IMO for the best advise on temps like you are talking about, check this forum out http://vboards.stratics.com/uo-spellcaster/ there are plenty of pros and cons to almost any build, but lots of good info there.

Bizarre builds can be a lot of fun. Willard started off as a Poisoner Necro Chef (i.e. He made killer muffins)
