Given the custom play-style of UO and almost no incentive to reach 120.0 Animal Taming, do you feel there is room for Pet Breeding in UO?

There are many ideas that can go into this system, and the overall function would be to provide the player-base with unique pets without unbalancing what the game already has to offer.

For example, a player with 120.0 Animal Taming/Lore would be able to Breed two types of animals to create a third type. Let's take a nightmare with a cu-sidhe. The result would be some type of casting/bleed attack hybrid pet.

This system could be a way to implement more color into pets. For example, breeding a greater dragon with different colored cu-sidhe would result in different colors.

I feel this type of system would bring a more unique approach to Taming that most of the rest of the game offers. It could be implemented in a way that doesn't offer any benefit other than to achieve a more custom system attached to Taming while providing different types of pets, with different abilities, and new colors.

What do you think? and what ideas do you have that would complement this type of system?

I suggested the same a while ago. Would be wonderful (tame a lizard, it become a drake, a dragon, a greater dragon and so on. Repeat for any species you like.). They did battle chicken instead. No tamer could stand the sight of a tamed pet vs pet fight but hey, it is not like managing this game requires any knowledge of it.

There are a whole host of pet adoptable sites on which you may happily breed, inbreed, cross-breed, and line breed. There is no need for such stuff in UO.

Beyond for-fun battle chickens, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in pet breeding in UO.

Combining pet special attacks is a balance problem so huge no one will thank you for suggesting it.

To use your own example:-

Breed two types of animals to create a third type. Let's take a nightmare with a cu-sidhe. The result would be some type of casting/bleed attack hybrid pet.
I think the only way a spell-casting, bleed attack dealing nightmare could be any worse would be to make the creature some retina-scorching neon colour to boot.

Nay, nay, and thrice nay.

If you really, really need to get this out of your system, go breed pets on Wajas.com or something.

Agree with Lady Nico. I can only begin to imagine the abominations that will result. It would be nice if the dragons had a color other than red or grey though. After all they do often come in black and green too.

Most creatures come in a variety of colors in the real world. Nightmares however need to stay black since a white nightmare just wouldnt be right

Long ago, when there was only the Old World,
Lady of the gardens (aka Jade) begged (via cross pollination) for a protective Plant carrying itself on swift moving leafy legs! A plant that would protect her from PK and Monsters!
Namely this:
The Venus Flytrap (also Venus's Flytrap or Venus' Flytrap), Dionaea muscipula, a carnivorous plant that catches and digests animal prey !

- - ten years+ later - - and I am still waiting

Last year many of us here promoted to Cal a new xpac idea after "High Seas"
It was on a crafters lvl of play which many of us do like to do. Farming/Husbandry. Raising our own sheep for wool, cattle for all its byproducts, Forestry and gardening. Things many of us need to do for other adventures in game. Cal said it was very interesting and worth a 2nd look but that was as far as it went.... with Cal gone and no real sight of who is running this show its hard to say if anything at all will come of it. Would be nice to have other ways of geting resources.
Personally id love to see drakes and some other pets more accessable like back in the day for non tamer players. I never saw any harm in letting a non tamer player have a drake to hunt with.

Xpacs may be off the table with Cal gone but who knows ... we might get lucky.

This suggestion reminds me of Star Wars Galaxies back when it was first released (I think it's gone through many changes since). There was a profession known as Bio-Engineer, where you could go around and sample the DNA of creatures, then go back to the lab and create a monster with custom features.

It was pretty complex, and pretty buggy. I remember being able to create top-level creatures while allowing the UO equivalent of zero control slots & no taming required. I actually remember people calling the game Pokemon Galaxies because every single character regardless of profession walked around with a huge pet.

So, the system was all messed up, but I definitely enjoyed the process. If done right, I think it can encompass aspects of resource gathering, crafting & combat. I don't know if they could make it work for UO though.
