...the cold wind blew through the sepulcher-like castle, as the Necromancer Wytch-King, Phaeton The Undying, sat upon his throne of bones. The lich's eyes burned red through his worn copper-death mask.

This evening, the Council of The Necromancers had but one order of business remaining.

Two Drakkarim, the skull-helmed dark knights, dragged a willowy, black-clad form into the main chamber. The prisoner looked up at Phaeton with her comely but whey-colored face, her eyes a striking violet. One of the Drakkarim brusquely shoved her a pace forward to be tried.

As she shot a poison glare at the gruesome guard, Phaeton's voice echoed through the chamber, an eerie baritone. "Morgan Le Faye of Sonoma. You have been brought before The Dark Brotherhood for your reprehensible crimes. Read the charges, Brogibandil."

With a puff of brimstone, a maniacally-grinning imp appeared atop the throne of bones. He unfurled a scroll fashioned from a burial shroud, and intoned in a screeching voice.

"The accused so-called Sister of Darkness has fought an undead spawn, destroying many hellbound warriors. She also caused the destruction of the accursed pumpkin monsters that our brother TheGrimmOmen, had sewn about the land. She also gave generously to UNICEF, helped a little old lady across the street in Jhelom, ordered six boxes of Nutty Buddies from the Britannian Girl Scouts, volunteered time at the Cove Soup Kitchen, saved a kitten from a tree using Telekinesis,"

"ENOUGH!" Phaeton roared. He pointed a withering finger at the young necromancer. "Such charitable acts, they speak of.... POSITIVE KARMA!!!"

Brogibandil squeaked and covered his pointed ears. The guards also tensed at hearing those two horrible words.

"Take her to the Crypt of Lamentation!" the Wytch-King's hollow eyes were afire. "Make her watch BOTH Dungeons and Dragons movies!! WITH the Director's Commentary!"

Morgan's defiant visage crumbled and she fell to her knees and screamed. The Drakkarim grabbed her arms and dragged the unfortunate necromancer from the chamber.

The hideous lich was on his feet. He yelled after the guards, "AND she has to watch ALL the Extra Features!"

Through the night at Skullrot Keep, the sounds of the insipid dialogue of Kiera Knightley and cliched storylines pervaded the dank walls of the entire Necromancer Stronghold. The wraiths all fled after fifteen minutes. The Drakkarhim stationed in the castle were no so lucky.

Few of them slept well that horrible night.

I have long-thought the answer was yet.

And it may well be.

However, I also sometimes think that this is an urban myth, perpetuated by our misreading of the fact that Necromancy lowers Karma.

My current understanding is no. Necromancy lowers karma, thus it impacts karma, abut is not impacted by it.

This being UO, however, we'll likely never really know for sure.
