UO on Wireless Dongle

Is their anyway to keep a high dongle connection to UO?

When i play UO only asks for a tiny connection like 50-100kbps but that causes huge lag. I play LotRo on my dongle with no problems at all but for some reason UO allways lags with it.

Strangely, when im downloading something in the background i get a better connection to UO so i was wondering if their was a way to make UO do that?

Oh i should mention im on a 2mb dongle and can obtain that speed easily........just not on UO.

Not familiar with the term "dongle" but I have connected through my phone network before. It's laggy but it does work.

Aye, i know playing games on dongle is laggy at times but my point is i can play, Lotro, Rift, Istaria. with no problems (apart from really heavy populated areas) but UO is just laggy (like 3 steps, pause for 2 seconds, 3 steps, ect. all the time. Even at my house which is the only thing around.

Just wondering why when it even calls for a lower connection on the website to play than the other 3d games do.

I used to play it on my real old landline at 54kbps and i never remember it being this bad.

when he says dongle i think he means broadband modem, like a 3g dongle.
this type of connection usually proxies and then bursts data to you, this is not meant for gaming.

im guessing when you are downloading something it seems more stable because you are flushing the cache at a real time rate.

there may be some buffer options and proxy options in the service software.

I tested the 3G on my iphone once, The speed is very reasonable, Trouble is the ping is AWFUL. And you need a good ping to play UO.

its the latency (ping) that is slow for uo - you need around 60 and with mobile you can be around 150.
test here Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

mobile or sat connection just cannot give you the latency you need for high responsive games.
perhaps those other games dont need it so you cant tell.

UO has a lot more objects in the game world than a lot of other games - if you're around housing, it's going to be bad on a really slow connection. I don't know about CC, but there is a cache feature in the EC that can allow you to cache items, it might help you. But ping has always been a problem with UO.
