Sonoma the first shard to go...

Yesterday I was cleaning up my houses on Sonoma, granted I had not been able to get on shard except for a few minutes of mining or trips to get bods. I was off in my little corner of UO playing happily on my own...

I hit on a friends house rune to drop off some things I knew she collected, her house was gone. Not only that the whole area was devoid of houses! This was a major player Town!!

I made the rounds of running all over the place to get the big picture of what was up.... I was shocked. I counted over 100 water troths up in the air... a sure sign a house fell....

It was sad to see, I had loved to log in sonoma and visit with friends and work a little on my very old homes. I decided to let it go perhaps like other shards it was a victom of the migration gone ary. I got on my tamer and was in need of a set of the new imbued jewelry so I got in chat and asked for the location of a good jewerly shop... Luna shopping was bad.. almost all vendors were ether gone or empty.

What I got in answer was the shocker. A player who I will not name for his/her safety.. answered my inquiry. But it was not what you or I would expect in answer.
I was told make a imbuer like the rest of them did and make it my self. ??? was my reply back to this player. "... didnt you want my gold?" the reply I recieved was: " NO, GET THE HELL OFF OUR PVP SHARD. "

In the insuing banter I was told by this character they has successfully pushed all "crafters" off the shard and it was now "their pvp shard" and I was not a pvp'r and to get off the shard. Pack up my things and transfer off or they would drive me off. Like they had done to others.

Sonoma was one of the most friendlyest shards I knew of. I had met players there that were so nice but this was beyond rude. A helpfull tamer gave me a set, I offered to pay but he refused the gold and said sorry for the jerks. I have had homes on Sonoma sence it opened way back in the early days of UO. I even still have an old Smithy house deed from back then.

I'm sad that such a wonderfull shard has gone to ruin.

Lol, hoping you just ran into some idiot. Hilarious to think that they could possibly drive people off Sonoma, even trammel players. Heard people claim it before many times and think it's total BS. That person obviously has a bug up their...yeah. But Sonoma has always been a pleasantly small shard. Perhaps the lack of venders is just due to migrations.

sorry to hear this but cannot say im surprised.

i started out in this game 4 years ago on sonoma. played there for close to a year and left to goto chessy.

now this was pre imbuing but even back than i found the vendor selection to be lousy. anything that was of any value was basically hoarded by the player base there.

sonoma is a picture perfect example of the need for shard migration.

Sorry to hear about your recent experience on Sonoma. It was once and I'm still holding out hope that it still is a small friendly shard to play on. Not sure who told you to get off their PVP shard considering it only consists of two alliances fighting each other.

Sonoma has always been my home shard. And to be honest I have noticed a decline recently. More are always welcome. Always be a pleasure to push out the rude.

As a resident of this shard, i can assure you that this idiot is in a minority of players. Although Sonoma may be smaller in population that some other shards, it is fun to play and has good people.

most of the PVPers are good natured and decent (with some obvious exceptions)

dont let one horses back end of a player allow you to judge the whole shard.

Sorry you ran into one of the town idiots but they do exist on all shards. Sonoma shard is STILL the most COMMUNITY Minded shard out there and will help each visitor if they can.

Personally I am a crafter .. always have been and always will be


PvP on sonoma has very few fighters these days as they pretty much transferred to other shards.

Sonoma has always been friendly to the bone... I try and visit the shard in my game play.

Perhaps if the small "Crafter" population had a few homes one could shop at might help alot.

Thinking of getting my crafters up and see what i can do to boost the picture.

Well we are and always have been a smaller shard and many of us prefer it that way. I will admit that there are not near as many active vendors as before but I would hardly say the shard is in ruins! We still have a very friendly community just like always, it is just smaller these days.

As for the rude pvper, that was one person! I would venture a guess that rude people exist on every shard, and every facet. I am surprized you listened to anything he said!

Thats just the loudest of the sonoma pvp guilds. Basically they all transfer to dead shards and pretend that they are the ones who ran everyone off. Then after they insult and harass any new players they then start complaining of not enough action or pvpers in game... go figure. Unfortunately its hard to find the good players on sonoma because most turn off general chat due to the hormonal teenagers that pvp there. There are still plenty of good players and guilds. Try the Help chat channel at first, as some good players stay in there to avoid the guttermouth kids.

I played on sonoma for a few years, I still have characters there, in fact I almost exclusivly pvp and I have a crafter on sonoma. I am in KMR and we used to do a crafter fair every year, since imbuing and because of the low population of players I believe that Mysti, the current GM of KMR, has stopped the craft fair indefinitely. I have a lack of interest in the server due to the low population, but mostly due to the lag, I am on the eastcoast and my ping is high on westcoast servers. The few people I know that still call sonoma their home server rarely play. Sonoma has never had good vendors either and when I moved to another server I was shocked by the amount of goods available to buy. I also remember a few years ago there were a bunch of hackings that occured, whether it was true or fabricated is debatable but I know that many people never returned to play after that. I had several good friends quit permanently around this time, and it is still hazy what happened. I know one claimed she was hacked, yet there were odd things associated with it that made me feel she sold her account rather then being hacked. Another good friend had real life issues that required her to quit playing UO. Either way sonoma was great to me for a few years, but I have no interest in playing it as my main server ever again. Also the pvp on sonoma was poor and that is my favorite thing to do in UO.

So while sonoma always had a nice community, the majority of people I met there no longer play or rarely log in. That's just how it goes.

Also whoever is claiming they ran everyone off the server is just an idiot. The last thing this game needs is ignorant *******s who think that the less people that play the better it is. One thing I loved sonoma for was the attitude of the people I met, who understood that new players are the future of the game and tried to help them enjoy the game instead of running them off of it. I was lucky and met amazing people who helped me learn and were not afraid to let a "noob" play with them.

I hope things work out better for you, many of us still play on sonoma from time to time but call other servers home now. I know for a fact we have at least 2 keeps on sonoma still, but for the most part our houses are on other shards now.

Seeing as there is no Pvp on sonoma, just 2 guilds fighting each other in gen chat. While those guilds do their house fighting and faction junk, the adults on sonoma are out spawning, pvming, or whatever they wish because no guild "runs" sonoma, no matter what a gaggle of teenage minded fools think.

People can move on their own if they want. Forcing them to give up their communities or homes that some of them have had for the better part of a decade would be the final kick in the pants that some would need to leave.

We have gone through a few tragedies and during that time the housing systems were blocked, keeping houses up. Also, Grandfathered houses and a few others that would not fall.

But you have to think, thousands of people would of had houses standing that no longer play, especially if people pass on or are affected by it in a way they no longer have the desire to play.

So, you're going to see much more fluctuation. I can't see people playing a video game if they are under water or going through earthquakes and tsunamis and God knows what's to come.

So, even though they can't merge all the shards together, they should try to create common ground where they can put the arena and maybe some type of mega spawn. It's not just the PvP'ers that's going to run people off, it's the way they feel.

They should have a system that automatically spawns houses to fill in those spaces and if they can't create an automatic system, they should create houses and even create NPCs to go in the houses and then just have a GM run around the shards placing houses.

At least that way, the shards would look full and then you would have different times for these houses to fall, giving people the illusion, their shard is full and still allowing new players plenty of room to place.

But if nothing is done, the shards will become barren deserts and the feeling of emptiness will grow.

You're always going to have angry PvP'ers but you don't have to have empty shards. It's just ashame they keep allowing houses on all the new places. We really need a place where all of us can go from all of the shards in both a Trammel and Felucca setting.

Not sure if this has been cleared up yet I didn't read passed your post but. I have seen about 20 houses go idoc and fall in the the passed 3 days so. I heard it was turned off also, but it isn't.

Devs really screwed up, I will say that. Maybe not with what they are doing now, but CAL really made A LOT of people quit the game. If this publish didn't look so good I would be gone myself. Funny thing is this publish looks like it will take a month to get out...

Hundreds of people quit due to Cal. The guy was dumb, he had no clue what to do with UO what so ever. I for one am happy he's gone. I don't have much respect for any of the people running UO. The programmers don't know jack, half the art looks like its made using MS paint, the website developers are terrible, the account system got totally screwed, bugs that should have been fixed YEARS ago are still not done, Spring cleanup more then likely will not happen till sometime around christmas. Its just one huge cluster **** & correct me if im wrong but the producer is supposed to be in charge of getting the best quality things out to the people like me you and everyone who pays for UO since ahh ya we pay as much for UO as anyone who plays any MMO. Cal did not do one good thing at all. Name one thing Cal did good for UO and I will tell you 100 things he did that made 100 people quit.
Guess what most shards are totally dead, I can think of like 2 American shards that actually still have more then 50 people playing... LS & ATL granted I have not checked GL lately but all the other shards seem to be dead. The OP's first post describes about 5 other shards I play on. Nope was never like that till after Cal. Glad hes gone.
Hundreds quit over one of his idiot posts on Stratics about if you don't like it don't play it. That did it for me anyways. I wanted him to fail at everything he did after that one.

Heh. Sonoma. PvP shard. Although, I've been told quite often that Atlantic, despite being the most populous shard, is also a shard which lacks strong community. Who knows. Either way, serious PvPers don't play UO. There isn't a lot of competition, cheating isn't enforced, balance checks come once every month or two, there aren't a lot of modern strategies/skills to employ due to a lack of three dimensional space, and there aren't any real life tournaments hosted by the parent company. In fact, EA only hosted one shard-wide tournament in the history of UO, and they never even finished it.

I don't know why PvPers would want to get rid of crafters. Most PvPers do not want to grind a crafter out. A crafter is like God's gift to any PvP type. I could see PvPers trying to get rid of tamers, though.

Storm, I thought you played Origin? Maybe a different Storm. And I forgot Queen Mum plays Sonoma. No love for Ches or Siege?
